Especially since most of them are probably unwilling to take the pet to a county (kill) shelter because "he might be put to sleep." So instead they abandon them by the side of the road or tie them up inside a house to starve and hope someone comes along to save them before it's too late. And they wonder why animal shelter volunteers burn out. There is a special place in hell for these people. Some of it could be people who are really in serious distress, who I feel for. Somehow I think a lot of the abandoners are just a bunch of selfish jerks who would use any excuse to dump a pet that they shouldn't have got in the first place.
