Election Day!

Please be sure to vote YES today to both Public Questions on today’s ballot:

STATE QUESTION NO. 1 – CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO PERMIT CASINO GAMBLING IN TWO COUNTIES OTHER THAN ATLANTIC COUNTY

Do you approve amending the Constitution to permit casino gambling in two additional counties in this State? At present, casino gambling is allowed only in Atlantic City in Atlantic County.

Only one casino in each of the two counties would be permitted. Each casino is to be located in a town that is at least 72 miles from Atlantic City. The amendment would allow certain persons to apply first for a casino license.

STATE QUESTION NO. 2 – CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO DEDICATE ADDITIONAL REVENUES TO STATE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM

Do you approve amending the Constitution to dedicate all revenue from the State motor fuels tax and petroleum products gross receipts tax to the Transportation Trust Fund?

This amendment would provide that an additional three cents of the current motor fuels tax on diesel fuel, which is not dedicated for transportation purposes, be dedicated to the Transportation Trust Fund. In doing so, the entire State tax on diesel fuel would be used for transportation purposes. The entire State tax on gasoline is currently dedicated to the Transportation Trust Fund and used for transportation
purposes.

The amendment would also provide that all of the revenue from the current State tax on petroleum products gross receipts be dedicated to the Transportation Trust Fund. In doing so, the entire State tax on petroleum products gross receipts would be used for transportation purposes.

This amendment does not change the current tax on motor fuels or petroleum products gross receipts.

Vote NO on the gas tax bill .It’s designed to fool you into believing they just want a “lock box” on the tax ,if that’s all they wanted they could have included it on the original bill .This bill is to sidestep the question of voters approving more debt for the TTF up to 18 BILLION more which the gas tax must be raised to pay off that debt …This state needs no more borrowing we’re one of the most indebted state in the country

Soutwin…you are wrong. I did the research. This is to avoid the money being spent on crapola instead of overpriced transportation projects.

101.5 FM this morning was saying vote NO on question #2, the legislators want 12 Billion in bonding and it is not included in the ballot question.

Hoboken leans as far left as it gets.

Yeah, that really was my first thought when I saw the line.

  19. Juice Box says:

Here is another interpretation of ballot question #2.

TTF Authority to bond… More trains to nowhere.

“Taxpayers can be forced to pay debts that are secured by a “dedicated” tax. That is why both the Republican and Democrat establishments want you to vote “yes” vote on Ballot Question 2.

A “yes” vote on Tuesday “dedicates” all gas tax money to “the transportation system.” That new “dedicated” tax will let the insolvent NJ Transportation “Trust” Fund Authority hock future gas tax collections for the next 20 years. This would let the TTF Authority borrow another $12 billion on top of the $16 billion it previously borrowed without voter approval. Since all future tax hike money will be going to Wall Street, we will again have nothing left to build and fix roads and bridges once the borrowed money is spent. That means we will have another “crisis” with dangerous roads and bridges in just a few years.”

    Here is the full opinion.

  20. grim says:

NJ 101.5 is doing a massive disservice to NJ.

    Wait and see, you’ll see.

When the gas tax revenues are all bonded through general fund to support non-transportation projects, and the TTF continues to be bankrupt as a result.

  21. grim says:

That new “dedicated” tax will let the insolvent NJ Transportation “Trust” Fund Authority hock future gas tax collections for the next 20 years.

    Of course it does.

The Transportation Trust Fund does not operate like a savings account. It never has, and it never will. Even if you are fiscally responsible, you’ll realize that this is nonsensical in the grand scheme.

You can wait 20 years to save up enough money in the TTF to build a bridge outright. Or, you can bond against the revenues to generate the capital to build the bridge today. Why would you want to do that? Because you get the benefits of the infrastructure now, as opposed to in 20 years.

This is the reason the law is written in the way it is. This is not some secret cabal trying to sneak something under our noses.

NJ doesn’t need our approval to borrow money and issue debt based on existing tax revenues. Let me remind you, the gas tax and it’s dedication to both the TTF and General fund already exist within the constitution.

However, by not dedicating the funds to the TTF, they become “free game” as part of the general fund. They can be bonded against there as well, and they will.

  22. grim says:

There is absolutely no realistic situation that requires any repeal of the gas tax law, either for a yes or no vote.

Anyone who makes it seems like voting no sets the stage for any kind of repeal of that law is being incredibly disingenuous.

  23. grim says:

The state constitution is INCREDIBLY CLEAR on the gas tax revenues today.

$200 million go to the TTF, everything collected above that goes to the General fund.

Everthing. Which is now even larger as it includes the gas tax increase.

  24. grim says:

I would also agree that a “no” vote makes it nearly impossible to repeal the gas tax, as there are hordes of democrats who will now see this as a viable new funding source for their projects, and will reach for this pile of money with a massive amount of quid pro quo and pork projects.

Every penny will be consumed in the new budget. Once it’s consumed, it will be impossible to rededicate the funds. We know that in NJ, it is impossible to reduce spending.

  25. grim says:

Which is why I feel that the NJ 101.5 position is nonsense, because they believe, somehow, this forces some kind fiscal restraint.

However, THIS IS NOT A REFERENDUM ON SPENDING.

So, instead of restricting the fund usage, it becomes free game. In the State of NJ, this means it’s spent, immediately.

So, in trying to create a sense of fiscal responsibility, they are going to create a situation that results in the EXACT OPPOSITE.

  26. grim says:

THESE TAXES ARE ALREADY FREE GAME WITH REGARDS TO BONDING AND DEBT, THEY HAVE BEEN, THEY WILL BE IN THE FUTURE.

If you get a democratic majority legislature, and a democratic governor, you could see a scenario where they borrow against this to make a $12 billion dollar one time injection into the pension funds.

Probable? No. Possible and Legal? Yes.

  27. grim says:

    God help us.

  28. STEAMturd questioning the gender of Hillary's Meaty Cankle fluid. says:

Read that PDF I attached. Look at the pros and cons. NJ101.5 is wrong. I watched that video too. The premise is that if all of the money collected through the gas tax is not dedicated to the TTF, then they’ll have to figure out another way to fund the TTF and they’ll repeal the gas tax. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The gas tax is a done deal. If anything will happen, they will need to create an additional tax (or an increase of an existing one) to make up for the shortfall created when the gas tax money raised doesn’t go to the TTF. It’s really a no-brainer. BTW, it took Gator so long to vote that I will just skip my vote for none-of-the-above this year. She was on line for nearly an hour. I have to leave work early since the NJ Devils have invited Gator JR. and his friend to bring the Devils out on the ice during tonight’s pregame show. It’s another cancer sibling benefit. And some other good news. Daniel’s first post chemo MRI appears to be clear. Radiation is about to begin in about four weeks.

  29. grim says:

So it’s obvious why there is democratic opposition to the constitutional amendment.

    So why the republican opposition?

Because it forms the basis for the next set of campaigns. They can say they were running against the gas tax, trying to repeal it, which would be appealing to voters. It also gives them a position by which to completely separate themselves from Chris Christie, who has poisoned the NJ republicans for the next decade.

So who gets screwed? We do.

  30. Glen says:

Thanks for the explanation, Grim. appreciate it

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=68&v=uNe_u_r0WcM

  34. grim says:

What people don’t realize is that the constitutional question was required specifically because the constitution needs to be updated to reflect the change in law, and that can only be done through the ballot question. The constitution today specifically allocates $200 million to the TTF and any additional funds to overflow to the General fund.

The question has nothing to do with approving additional bonding.

    This is a complete misunderstanding.

The ballot question was actually approved BEFORE the tax gas law was agreed, finalized, and signed.

  35. grim says:

    Shame shame shame on 101.5.

  36. STEAMturd questioning the gender of Hillary's Meaty Cankle fluid. says:

My guess is that when the pension referendum was not supported by state officials, the NJEA somehow put their weight (and money) behind this one.

An unrelated, but lightly supports my c0ckamamie theory. Hey, if ExPat can do it…

    http://www.courierpostonline.com/story/opinion/editorials/2016/08/04/editorial-njea-crosses-line-pension-ultimatum/88073382/

  37. grim says:

Like I said above, these additional, already constitutionally dedicated, revenues become fair game in the general fund.

This includes being appropriated to make pension payments. Even bonded out 20 years to make a huge lump sum payment.

  38. STEAMturd questioning the gender of Hillary's Meaty Cankle fluid. says:

I had a friends 50th birthday party last night at a restaurant in NYC and I was rather surprised a) that people were talking politics and b) that there was such a healthy disdain for HRC by many of the female attendees even though they were going to vote for her.

Essentially her election has everything to do with Trump as a candidate and nothing to do with anything positive HRC has done. Everyone of them thought she was a corrupt POS.

Personally I hope HRC wins. Four years of her crowd of psychophants, crony capitalists and media whores may just be enough to tip this country over into the abyss and perhaps generate some real change.

Regardless of Christie’s knowledge of Bridgegate, can you believe the gall of his advisors to use commuters as pawns to get back at the Fort Lee mayor for not providing an endorsement? Trump still hasn’t revealed his taxes. The entire DNC should be in prison with their leader. The corruption and complete disregard for ethics in government is astounding. And it’s on every single level. Yet the masses still cheer for their parties. Quite frankly, I’m embarrassed.

  59. HEHEHE says:

“I don’t want to wait. I want a revolution now.”

I am not opposed. Problem is Trump’s policies are retreads that do little more to address the underlying problems the country faces than HRC.

Declining standards of living and job losses; ridiculous deficit spending; out of control entitlements; Citizen’s United and the resulting crony capitalism, regulatory capture, selective enforcement of the law, trade deals like TPP, consolidation of corporate owned media etc.

Kind of like some of the recent inner city riots but on a more massive scale. How long down the road it goes is anybody’s guess but I am guessing the road is much shorter than it was 10-15 years ago. Ann Coulter jumped the shark with a wish to restrict voting to people with “at least four US born grandparents”! So, chances are the GOP doubles down again in 2020? If so, the Democrats can simply say, “vote for me, or else you will get Ann Coulter”!

  103. Simply put – Trump outworked Clinton, Clinton out-slept Trump.

  104. 1987 Condo says:

Well, certainly closer than folks expected, Dow Futures down 400 points….the rich are nervous

  105. Walking bye says:

  108. LOL. Big surprise. People don’t want to show up and listen to her. People don’t want to show up and vote for her.

  109. Jump to CNN and watch the shaky voices and shaky knees. Fun, fun, fun.

  110. Chi says:

These fcuking media chumps look completely flustered. Wtf? You arrogant out of touch pricks

  111. There was a very smart man who posted here that every poll underestimated Trump by at least 2 points. Oh, I suddenly remember who it was. Me.

  114. HEHEHE says:

I tried explaining to my liberal friends that there are a lot of pissed off people out there in the Midwest and other regions who’ve gotten the shaft from these trade deals that Trump was saying what they wanted to hear and they all said some smug sh*t like “they must be racist”. Now they know. Obama, The Fed and Wall Street tried to paper over our screwed up debt soaked economy but now the chickens have come home to roost.

  115. 3b says:

If trump wins is fab going to back to the UK?

  116. Exactly right. Most of us coastal elites are so out of touch with the bread basket and the former manufacturing centers.

So did the Blm movement do Hillary more harm than good? Pollsters now saying they missed the rural vote turnout. Is this bigger than Truman win?

Grim, it’s a dead on copy of the last two Obama wins. And they haven’t even begun stuffing ballot boxes in Philadephia (actually, the GOP ballots end up in the shredder but same difference)

  128. Comrade Nom Deplorable, just waiting on the Zombie Apocalypse. says:

    Oh sh1t

  129. Nwnj3 says:

Lots of folks woke up to the fact that Hilary’s nwo vision was going to be instituted entirely at their expense. Same issue with brexit. Hopefully swaths of progressives do move abroad and implement their hellhole society elsewhere.

  130. Comrade Nom Deplorable, just waiting on the Zombie Apocalypse. says:

I still say the b1tch pulls it out. But she’ll be a lame duck from day one. She will have no legitimacy and to govern, she’ll have to wheel to the right. The Warrenistas won’t take kindly to going under the bus for the third straight time.

  131. Walking – I am in exactly the same place right now, 70% cash and cash equivalents. I am hot on Tech and Financials right now as top tier investments, and Industrials and Materials as second tier investments. I may be buying a soon as tomorrow, but I have a complicated model that gives me the trending stocks in these four sectors. For the average investor, I would advise to let the dust settle a bit, maybe even wait until the new year to start putting new money into the market. YMMV.

Ex pat on some of these flash crash type events I usually stick with Dow stocks . I don’t have the knowledge of really knowing if I’m getting sucked into a value trap buying something I don’t understand. Especially as you have minutes to make a decision . Would be nice to have a laid out plan but I just don’t have that.

  136. Nwnj3 says:

Hillary wants open borders and 500k Syrian refugees. We have 50,000,000 living below the poverty line already. Lots of common sense folks from both sides hit the reject button on that insanity.

  137. Nwnj3 says:

Megan Kelly looks dismayed. She thought it was a mere formality earlier, as did many of the mainstream media.

  138. Pete says:

  141. Comrade Nom Deplorable, just waiting on the Zombie Apocalypse. says:

I stand by my call. Trump won’t run the table. Bosses in Detroit and Philly are hard at work.

  142. Pete says:

Nom, you’re pretty stubborn. It’s up to 98% now with the Florida call. It’s over.

  143. WB – I am an intermediate term trend trader, plain and simple. With rare exception I buy the hot stocks in the hot sectors in the S&P 500, so that is my universe. I buy stocks that have a new 52 week high in the S&P 500 within the last 5 days with no fear. I buy at the top and sell at a higher top. That’s what I do. My average hold is about 3 months. I have the luxury of managing very large IRA accounts so long-term, short-term gains mean nothing to me. I just have high RMD numbers to hit. A couple years ago I thought I could hit my numbers with dividends, but I can’t. I need to do it with growth.

Ex pat on some of these flash crash type events I usually stick with Dow stocks . 144. Nom – S&P futures say you are not dialed in. 2029.25

I stand by my call. Trump won’t run the table. Bosses in Detroit and Philly are hard at work.

  145. Walking bye says:

Chuck Todd on NBC still the best at running the numbers. He is a numbers guy and does not make up excuses al la MSNBC – this is johnsons fault and the losers who voted johnson

  146. Grim says:

    I’m with nom, not over.

  147. I think I see a piss-stain in Wolf Blitzer’s trousers.

  153. Walking bye says:

Chuck Todd looking at a tie of 269

  154. HEHEHE says:

He might end up with over 270 but he has 270. He gets one Maine vote, Iowa’s his. It’s over.

  155. HEHEHE says:

Chuck Todd doesn’t know his @ss from a hole in the wall.

  156. I hope FOX fires Megyn Kelly tomorrow and lets her have a contract negotiation with herself.

  157. I strongly disagree. I believe he’s measured both orifices with his fist.

Chuck Todd doesn’t know his @ss from a hole in the wall.

  158. I think CNN will go to a test pattern in about 24 minutes.

  159. Grim says:

    Pennsylvania getting close now

  160. HEHEHE says:

    The Original NJ ExPat says:

Here’s my very own out there, tinfoil hat theory:

Trump has been leading the entire time.

The polls have been a massive fraud/bluff to try to turn the tables for months as has been the puss-y grabbing follies. Didn’t work. Look at Hillary’s crowds, if no one wants to see her or listen to her (except limo libs for $50K a plate), who the hell is voting for her?

    Cue Comey.

Now, with the reopened email investigation, the polls have a reason to move back to reality and the tracks are completely covered if they were fraudulent all along, no? This way those same fraudulent polls can be used as a credible ploy next time too instead of being discredited forever. ABC/CNN/MSNBC/Fox (yes Fox too!) polls would be shown for what they are if they continued to advertise double digit Clinton leads and then Trump wins by 5.

  162. Grim says:

    Hah my CNN went dead

  163. D-FENS says:

PBS reporting that Canada’s immigration website has crashed.

  164. HEHEHE says:

Stockman is a pretty funny guy. You should check out his book Trumped. He had the pulse of the anger Trump was tapping into. Point of the book is Trump has no workable policies to make the country better and suggests what he should do.

I think the biggest loser in all of this is the MSM. Nobody is going to believe they aren’t in the bag for the establishment after this election. Once the steeple stop drinking the Kool-aid things get interesting.

  165. HEHEHE says:

    Sheeple rather.

  166. Anon E. Moose says:

Expanded gambling loses 4-1? People are dumb.

    Mike crapo

  169. Wolf Blitzer has changed his pants. He might have donned a diaper as well.

  170. Fabius Maximus says:

If I wake up in the morning and Trump has won, I will accept him as CIC, but with that, I will hold those who voted for him accountable.

3b I am here for the duration.

  171. Walking bye says:

So it’s Arizona and a rust belt state and it’s over for Hillary.

  172. leftwing says:

markets getting killed….guess they think trump is good for business.

  175. Jesus. Just to prove that Fox News was in the tank for Clinton as well, they are holding a pity party right now for themselves.

  176. Lost says:

Trump won a “rigged” election. Now how does one do that?

That’s what makes me sick. He won a lot of support on the rigged election nonsense, and now he is living proof that it’s not rigged at all.

  177. It’ll certainly bad for those who weren’t smart enough to reserve enough cash to invest in a steep downturn (or those who have all their capital tied up in spray pancake batter).

markets getting killed….guess they think trump is good for business.

  178. Rule #1: Don’t tie up your future “investing” in a big house on a busy street.
Rule #2: Read rule one a whole bunch of times until you truly understand Rule #1.

Trump won a “rigged” election. Now how does one do that?

  179. Clinton was smart about one thing. She cancelled the fireworks she ordered on the Hudson that were planned for between 9 & 10PM. Smart girl.

  180. Walking bye says:

The Javitz center does look impressive. Fireworks would have been a nice touch. Donald ran this low budget. Even hq look Dated and low budget compsred to Hillary

  181. This is seeming to choreographed now.

  182. These asswipes are not going to call any more states tonight.

  183. leftwing says:

Maybe Trump can make his first deal and take them off her hands at 20 cents on the dollar

  184. leftwing says:

Milwaukee and Detroit in process of manufacturing absentee ballots.

CBS dude basically said that….”Detroit had been at 99pc counted for a while but no one knows how many absentee balls there are

  185. leftwing says:

Add Philly to the “there are absentee ballots and no one knows how many” power CBS.

She wins the jump ball states and election on urban absentees especially with him winning the popular and this country will melt down

  186. leftwing says:

    *per* CBS.

Congrats to everyone that supported the GOP nominee or wanted him to win — it is a big big win, wildly wildly above the expectations!

I woke up to continue my “prep” (yesterday, I figured this procedure would be fitting on a day like today), and read that the earth stood still.

I honestly thought Clinton’s firewall would hold, that the machine would not fail her.

I also don’t think this is over. We could be in for 2000 all over again.

  193. Fast Eddie says:

It’s over. It’s nothing like 2000. Thank God, the nightmare is over. Eight years of an arrogance, pessimism and division that is over. I don’t know if I’m happier that that f.uck in the White House is finally gone or that the witch is dead.
