    From the article:

The Silicon Valley town that billionaires Eric Schmidt of Google and Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg have called home is America’s richest community for the third year in a row.

Atherton, California, whose household income averaged $450,696 in 2017, topped the Bloomberg Richest Places annual index.

Hmmm…I wonder if the 2020 Dem Donkey nominees will be speaking out about the racism and inequality in Atherton? Getting them to pay their fair share?

FYI, in case you haven’t figured out the sub-rhetoric of “We don’t need a wall, but we need border security. A wall doesn’t work, but we can employ technology…”

That’s the Dems Donkeys laying the foundation, saying that when they eventually are forced to vote for border security they’ll be voting to funnel that money to Atherton, CA, not to border state construction companies.

  4. Bruiser says:

I wonder how many affordable housing units have been built in Atherton in the past 50 years.

  5. The Great Pumpkin says:

Tiny nj has 18 on the list. If that doesn’t tell you how much money is here, then nothing will. It’s pretty insane. Add in the fact that one of the 25 biggest homes in America is being built here and tell me again how nj is dying. That the rich are leaving.

  6. The Great Pumpkin says:

Nj gained 4 on the list, more than any other state. So when someone tells you the rich are leaving nj in droves, tell them to stfu. Lol

  7. 3b says:

Nj is dying. Critical thinking skills are required.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOfkpu6749w

There’s a white man with a white kid
    Living in a white neighborhood
He’s got an interstate running’ through his front yard
You know, he thinks, he’s got it so good
And there’s a woman in the kitchen cleaning’ up evening slop
And he looks at her and says:
“Hey darling, I can remember when you were a hot Polack”

Oh but ain’t that America, for you and me
Ain’t that America, I lie as I please baby
Ain’t that America, I got me three degrees, yeah
Wage Inflation for you and me, oh for you and me

    Well there’s a dropout in a T-shirt
    Listenin’ to a Polka station
He’s got dropout hair, a dropout smile
He says: “Lord, the post office is my destination”
‘Cause they told me, when I was younger
Sayin’ “Boy, you’re gonna be dumb as f.uck”
But my Nana took pity on me, gave me a house
That was a stroke of luck!

Oh but ain’t that America, for you and me
Ain’t that America, we’re something to see baby
Ain’t that America, bought my house turn-key, yeah
Pancake in a can for you and me, oh baby for you and me

Well there’s people and more people
What do they know, know, know
Got nice big houses in Bergen County
And vacation down at the Gulf of Mexico
    Ooo yeah

And there’s winners, and there’s losers
My street’s unsafe, no kids’ big wheels
‘Cause the simple man baby has the chills, ADD pills,
And the Wayne Tax bills that kill

Oh but ain’t that America, for you and me
Ain’t that America, hey we’re something to see baby
Ain’t that America, my sewer repair wasn’t free, yeah
Wage Inflation for you and me, ooo, ooo yeah

Ain’t that America, for you and me
Ain’t that America, hey I lie as I please baby
Ain’t that America, I got me three degrees

Today, up and down my street, kids on bikes, kids walking, kids running from one house to the next. I’m just the messenger. I know some don’t want to believe this but I’m not making this sh1t up.

And I got my taxes done yesterday. Between the bigger paycheck and the Federal return, I made more in 2018 than 2017.

What we won’t hear is an apology, or an introspective review of the mistakes and professional lapses that brought us all to this point. There will be a reckoning, but that reckoning won’t be televised.

Instead, the reckoning will take place in the hearts and minds of the millions of Americans outside the Acela corridor who’ve been watching this slow-motion train wreck of a self-absorbed, hopelessly biased legacy media beclowning themselves in pursuit of the admiration and legitimacy of their peers, and of the Democratic politicians with whom they share secrets, lies and tactics in furtherance of their mutual ideological objectives.

The reckoning will come in the form of an enlightened audience and electorate, whose questions and doubts about the motives and agenda of the media have been fused by this experience over the last two years into a fundamental and abiding distrust of their political reporting, their use of anonymous sources and their empty promises of unbiased reporting.

The reckoning may not be televised, but it will be this: You will no longer be believed.

Fast I know this is your ideal . I dropped the topic a couple of weeks ago as you are so sensitive and dare I say hostile about my opinion. I speak after 30 years in Bergen co sounurb. You are a newbie. It’s clear you see what you want to see. First it was young couples buying the houses now it’s young couples with children buying the houses I guess they are moving out of the apartments now and to your town. You waited years to move the promised land of surburbia with all the moms at home and an apple pie cooling on the window silll. Your hostile to what I say because you fear I am right and that will affect your house value. It’s the same belief as someone else on this board.

I just had new prescription reading glasses made, my first “second prescription”, in 8 years. My distance vision is still 20/15, no need for glasses for driving. Years ago, I had 20/10 vision all around. I guess my kids have good vision genes, my wife, only a couple years younger than me…they told her she can get some new prescription glasses if she wants, but she’s fine to buy 1.75x cheaters at the dollar store.

Jerome Corsi was the lynch pin. Mueller tried to force a plea deal down his throat that would have formed a false bridge from Russia to Trump to Wikileaks. He accepted that he might be imprisoned if he did not lie. In the end, he was never charged, which shows how illegitimate Mueller’s team was.

Pretty sure that any average American, being put through the Mueller scrutiny, would be in jail for something.

  31. The Original NJ ExPat says:

Meanwhile, that cunt Cohen admitted to an FEC violation that would have never been proven in court, to lessen his own jail time.

How much does it cost to house someone in jail per year? We complain about the cost of “no show” jobs in our govt. Putting someone in jail for weed possession is the equivalent of paying someone for a yearly “no show” job. Just pissed away on nothing.

    3b,

There were many here that said the dynamics have changed, millennials are staying in the urban areas, that everyone claims to see kids in their neighborhood, that it’s the same story, etc. I don’t post these things with you in mind. I post it to state that I’ not seeing what is apparently anecdotal opinion by a lot of people and outlets. I saw and heard these kids all day on Sunday and the previous week when we had decent weather. The two open houses had multiple families looking with kids in tow.

I had relatives in various BC towns for years, a long time ago, well before you moved here. I knew the area. I still think most houses are over-priced, I still think fat Mary and smelly Jack are asking too much for their dump and I still think house tour guides are leeches.

And I could care less what my house is worth today, five years from now, ten years from now… whatever. When I sell, if I sell, I’ll take whatever someone is willing to pay.

  40. GdBlsU45 says:

  45. The Great Pumpkin says:

What a waste of money… just legalize the crap and stop forcing us to pay for the cost of housing inmates for smoking weed.

“In these difficult economic times, many New Jersey residents are voicing concern about the cost of incarcerating inmates and for good reason.

“The cost to house an inmate for one year is $53,000,” says New Jersey Department of Corrections Spokesman Matt Schuman.

He points out there are 13 state prisons, with approximately 20,000 inmates, and if you include the folks in halfway houses and state sentenced county lock-ups, the number goes up to 23,000.”

I watched MSNBC last night because I know that Fox News would only be championing Trump’s talking points. The rest of the roundtable were just leftist agitators of no particular intelligence or talent.

Here’s the problem. Real journalists didn’t used to go to college. They started out as copy boys at the paper and worked their way up. They also weren’t well paid. Journalists used to be middle class checks on the corruption of the elite. Now journalists, lawyers, and politicians all go to the same schools before they start “work”. They know the same people, have the same indoctrination, etc. It’s one big club. There isn’t a single Republican in the white house press pool.

Picture the short, fat guy in a rumpled suit with a pencil and notebook and a press pass stuck in the brim of his cheap fedora in a black and white 1950’s movie. That guy is extinct.

Somers will be charged with easing concerns of financial analysts and investors as the company tries to revitalize its core long-distance business and expand into local service and other ventures. He also will focus on attracting capital to AT&T ventures internationally.

chi – My Mom was there too. She reminded me of that war story when I emailed her about why all of pro pols and media hated Trump. I wrote this without even knowing about the situation until my Mom replied. This is what I sent first, because she retired as a manager at AT&T:

If you combine the media and the political sphere what you HAD was a human infrastructure, a de facto super-corporation. It’s been a semi-corrupt, yet firmly established, coalition of agreement. The “rules” have been clear for a long time. The right combination of influence, favors, and money move members of the coalition up in standing in a very slow, steady, advancement rate. You know better than I, but I might liken this superstructure of politicians, donors, lobbyists, media, and corporate higher-ups to the old AT&T? Using the old AT&T as an analogy, what if someone flew in from absolutely nowhere and instantly became the CEO of AT&T and tried to institute radical change from the top down? What reception would that guy (or gal) have waiting for him? People who have spent decades working their way up the established and accepted “old system” ladder might try some things to topple the new guy, maybe?

    3b,

Isn’t this exactly what I have stated to you over and over? Spillover dude! It’s inevitable. I was right on Paramus and Fairfield. That’s 2 out of 3, and I will be right on my final one with Wayne. All three of these towns were a stupid good value 3 years ago. Paramus is now too late. Fairfield still a chance here and there. Wayne is the last good value that is left inside the 287 corridor. You can still get 400,000-500,000 homes which is a gift from god based on the location and all it offers. Try finding a better school system in commuting distance to nyc with those real estate prices….get it while you can.

Add another call that has been correct by the pumpkin. You kept telling me city..blah blah blah…..and I tried to explain to you that north jersey areas are not dead. Now you believe me?

“Earlier this year, the U.S. Census Bureau shared its latest data concerning suburban population demographics from 2016 to 2017, revealing a trend that many had long suspected: As more big cities become less affordable, people are moving back to the suburbs.”

Pumps leave me out of your ramblings. I don’t agree with anything you have ever said nor will I. When I see crowds of young people and I define that as late 20s and early 30s buying SFH s in surburban NJ I will say things have changed. 40 something year old middle age people don’t count.

Pumps not that articles pro or con necessarily mean anything although they are Gospel to you if they support your beliefs. There is an article today in Marketwatch entitled why the housing market may be hitting a perfect storm. And it discusses the millennials who are lining up at this very minute in your delusions to head to Wayne as not enthusiastic on housing. Of course you will discount it and say they are wrong.

  90. The Great Pumpkin says:

Thanks for the share on that article. Good read.

Does a good job of showing both sides of the coin. Who will win?

“What this suggests is that investors will demand a more attractive return (i.e., higher yield) that is commensurate with the risk of carrying an excessive amount of new U.S. debt on their portfolios. Stated another way, the Treasury department will pay whatever rate the market demands in order to successfully unload an unprecedented volume of new debt issuances. Our forecast thus calls for the 10-year Treasury yield to climb over the next 18 months, and that could lift the 30-year mortgage rate to 6% or more by the second half of 2020.”

    “Supply
Aside from the challenges home buyers face, builders have hurdles of their own to overcome.

    1. The current tariffs on imports and the retaliatory actions by our trading partners have significantly raised the cost of building a home. The price of steel mill products, softwood lumber, aluminum mill shapes, and plywood have jumped 20% to 30% in the past year.

    2. Home builders still face a plethora of regulations, which account for 25% of the cost of constructing a home.

    3. Finding skilled labor has become especially difficult in this tight labor market. After the housing bubble and credit crisis of 2007-2009, many construction workers found more secure and even-better-paying jobs in the growing shale oil/gas industry. As a result, home builders have had little choice but to lure new hires by offering higher compensation. Others have resorted to investing more in robotic technology to offset the scarcity of workers.

    4. Finally, there’s a shortage of suitable land in key cities. What lots are available have skyrocketed in price, but that ultimately reduces the affordability of purchasing a newly built home, especially for entry-level buyers.”

Best part of the living standard going down…people don’t even realize it. Marketing is a beautiful thing.

I was wondering why all these articles promoting renting were coming out. Selling the public on it. Just like with cars. You don’t want to own a car, it’s so much better to Uber. My god, they are masters at manipulating the masses.

  94. 3b says:

Pumps can make the same argument about owning. Convincing dumb people to pay 600k for a 50 to 75 year old house with 15 to 20k in property taxes while their kids spend 10 or more hours in day care.

  95. grim says:

That’s actually a very good business model.

Make a lower standard more appealing, then sell the hell out of it.

  97. The Great Pumpkin says:

McDonald’s mastered that. That’s exactly what the fast food industry did with food. Guess housing sector finally catching on.

We are not talking about people like our resident poster chi, but your avg American.

Who will be financially better off at 70… lifelong renter or someone that bought a home? Both make the same income.

Now imagine what’s happening as they get the younger generation to believe owning is bad and renting is good. You have an entire generation stripped of their only tool to create real wealth through forced savings. Aka the theft of wealth from an entire generation. They will have nothing when they get old and that’s how the owner class wants it.

Throughout history, land was a sign of wealth. Why is our current society any different? Why would we willingly give up property ownership in favor of renting? Our govt was formed on the basis of the sacredness of property ownership. That was everything to the founding fathers, now why?

Life long renter saves and invests their money. Owner pays thousands in mortgage interest interest and property taxes. And the taxes are now capped
by the way. Plus maintenance. Owner sells the house and gets x amount more. Actually work the numbers and your argument may not be as compelling as you believe it to be. The days of an SFH being a great investment long term are no done. And now you have people who will be carrying mortgages into their 50s and 60s and retirement. It’s a different world lil pumps!

  100. homeboken says:

3b says – Life long renter saves and invests their money.

That right there is the rub…Most renters (and this is a broad stroke, admittedly) do not save and invest their money. Most renters have zero income to actually save. True that at the extreme end of the curve there are a few people that do the math and consciously decide to rent and save. But 95% + of renters do not have an extra 10 bucks to put into a savings vehicle. They have taken their personal economy to the max. Every dollar in is already spent before it is earned. On top of that, they max out credit and are leverage to their ears with revolving debt, student debt, car loans/leases, etc.
I am not saying I agree with Pumpkin – but I personally believe that very, VERY few people that are life-long renters make the conscious decision to rent as a method to increase their net-worth.
