H-1B’s back off buying

From Newsweek:

H-1B Visa Holders Disappear From US Housing Market

The number of new FHA mortgages granted to non-permanent residents has dropped to near-zero following President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders targeting immigrants, according to new data.

In a March 26 letter, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that non-permanent residents in the United States, including H-1B visa holders, would no longer be eligible for mortgages insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), effective May 25.

The move, the letter said, was in line with President Donald Trump’s “commitment to safeguarding economic opportunities for U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents,” while also ensuring that “federal benefits, including access to FHA-insured mortgages, are reserved for individuals who hold lawful permanent resident status.”

The impact of these policy changes has already become evident in the U.S. housing market, “reshaping the housing market for non-permanent residents,” Alex Thomas of John Burns Research & Consulting (JBREC) posted on X.

A new report by JBREC, authored by Thomas and colleagues Eric Finnigan and Zack Ray, found that non-permanent residents, also referred to as NPRs, made up less than 1 percent of FHA loan volume nationally in June, down from nearly 5.5 percent a month earlier and over 6 percent in April.

In July and August, the share of non-permanent residents securing the government-backed loans issued by the FHA was near zero percent. That was the lowest level in the timeline provided by JBREC, which dates back to February 2018.

George Santos is the 10th Republican congressman to receive a pardon or clemency from Donald Trump.

    “Law and order.”

  2. grim says:

Not sure what the rationale is for Santos, other than messaging to all the other Republicans that no matter what crime you commit, we’ll make sure you’ll get away with it.

Clear that the current democratic indictments have nothing to do with law and order, and everything to do with retribution. Not sure how you can spin the Santos commutation any other way.

  3. grim says:

The days of consequences are over now, the insurrection is complete. In 100 years, our grandkids will read about this as the greatest theft ever committed, in plain sight.

Pre-crime pardons will be next. I am going to ask for one, a simple donation to the Trump presidential Library should be enough just attach check to the pardon application. What kind of federal crime should I plan to pull off. Bank Robbery? Nah too pedestrian. I should knock over the Federal Reserve cash processing facility on Rt 17.

Completely unnecessary- he hadn’t done anything illegal.

Unlike Santos and the hundreds of Jan 6 rioters.

9:49 that catholic school education really let you down son.

  18. OC1 says:

Most of Biden’s “pardons” were actually clemency- reduction in their sentences, but the conviction still remained. Biden issued only 80 pardons. (Trump issued more than that just for the Jan 6 rioters!)

And- with a few exceptions- he followed the system and only pardoned or commuted the sentences of those that were recomended for clemency by the DOJ’s Office of the Pardon Attorney.

Did the Office of the Pardon Attorney recomend that Santos’ or the Jan 6 rioters
    get clemency?

  19. Juice Box says:

Short memories? Carter gets the prize on pardons…. Ford gets a close second with cemency for the same people. Estimated 570,000 Vietnam War draft dodgers.

Gerald Ford gave the Vietnam War Draft dodgers clemency. Carter when and upped it to a full Pardon in 1977.

Estimated 570,000 men were classified as draft offenders, but only 8,750 were convicted of violating the Selective Service Act, with 3,250 of them being imprisoned. Some prominent figures, like Muhammad Ali for example.

  20. Juice Box says:

OC1 – Joe Biden lied to the American people when he pardoned his son. He also blamed his own Department of Justice for prosecuting him… claimed his son was “selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted”…

Biggest bunch of houey ever, he was running for reelection in June of 2024 when he told the media he would not pardon his son right after his conviction (he pled guilty, there is no ambiguity here) and after he dropped out and Kamala lost he gave out the pardon that everyone knew was coming anyway on December 1st.

He should have pardoned his wife too, if his brothers and sisters needed a pardon so does his wife, daughter and possibly grandchildren.

  21. VSG says:

George Santos got nailed for wire fraud and identity theft.

Basically, he tricked campaign donors into giving cash, then swiped it for fancy clothes, vacations, and his own wallet—while faking reports to the FEC and stealing unemployment bucks during COVID.

  22. Chicago says:

“ “I’m feeling terrible,” said an Adams donor there, who has since reluctantly pivoted to Cuomo. The former governor, this person added, “would be a terrible mayor, but compared to Mamdani, he’s Winston Churchill.” “

  23. VSG says:

George Santos could launch a campaign for magas New York City Mayor.

    It’s not too late.

  24. Juice Box says:

Santos got a commutation, three months into his 87 month sentence. The felony conviction remains on his record.

  25. VSG says:

    He

    —Plead guilty to wire fraud
    —Plead guilty to identity theft
—Admitted to stealing from donors and using their money to fund his life of luxury.
—Stole funds from a homeless veteran’s dying dog
—Lied about losing his mother during the 9/11 attacks.

    etc, etc.

  26. Juice Box says:

Santos – I gather he wrote Trump a few letters like this one. He must have touched a nerve as Trump mentioned solitary confinement. He wasn’t a violent offender.

    https://southshorepress.com/stories/675481419-santos-from-behind-bars-solitary-confinement

  27. Juice Box says:

Also on commutations. During Covid about 100,000 prisoners were given early release. This was included in the March of 2020 CARES act which Trump signed into law, and in April of 2020 the Trump administration broadened the conditions for early release to include incarcerated individuals who have served at least 25 percent of their sentences.

Trump let allot of people out of jail early…. He might just have a soft spot for prisoners.

  28. OC1 says:

OC1 – Joe Biden lied to the American people when he pardoned his son. He also blamed his own Department of Justice for prosecuting him… claimed his son was “selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted”…

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again- there are degrees of “badness”.

    Pardonoing Hunter- bad.

Pardoning hundreds who rioted, assaulted police, and stormed the capitol in an attempt to overturn a free and fair election- very, very bad.

  29. White Trash Eddie says:

    OC1 – it’s happened before you know.

March 1, 1954, armed attack on the US House of Representatives by Puerto Rican separatists. They fired 30 rounds from semi-automatic pistols onto the legislative floor from the gallery.

The nationalists, identified as Lolita Lebrón, Rafael Cancel Miranda, Andres Figueroa Cordero, and Irvin Flores Rodríguez, unfurled a Puerto Rican flag and began shooting at Representatives in the 83rd Congress, who were debating an immigration bill. Five Representatives were wounded, one seriously. The assailants were arrested, tried successively in two federal courts and convicted. All received long consecutive sentences, amounting to life imprisonment. In 1978 and 1979, their sentences were commuted by President Jimmy Carter. All four returned to Puerto Rico.

    Dear General Public.
I don’t believe in the law. It’s okay to commit crimes if I say it is.

Now you servants beneath me, do so at your own risk. I may or may not send Tomahawks, I may or may not pardon you. Spin the wheel and take your chances.

It’s funny, this was so predictable. But like a sick patient in denial, the body is starting to realize there is a problem it cannot deny any longer. Be patient, the infection is only going to get worse.

The handlers have taken over the democracy here. They have the money and the power.

Go pull that lever as hard as you want. It’s not gonna matter if you pull blue or red. The end result will be the same.

Boomer, go look at some kids or youth outside, and pat yourself on the back for what a great job you have done running this country into the ground like a taxicab. The second sentence, well, that is just a lying spin.

And young men, about AOC’s thought process, understand this: marriage is hard and no woman will ever be satisfied with anything, ever. This is so fundamentally true that the creation story of our foundational religion features a woman who lives in an actual, honest-to-God paradise and she is still not content with that so she does the one thing on the planet she isn’t supposed to do just to stir up drama.

Except, that would not sell, sounds better to say hey I am a Bronx girl. Unlike what some seem to think, there is no bright line- every microbiology study results in mutations. Exactly when that crosses into “gain of function” is a gray area.

Worst case for SS (no change to current law) is a 25% benefit cut- that’s what I planned for (and what everybody should plan for).

About 70 million people receive SS. 75% of over 65s voted in the 2024 election.

Politically, a 25% bene cut will be difficult enough; there is no way in hell that SS would just be eliminated (at least for people in or nearing retirement).

If that happened, the spikes on the fence outside the white house would be topped with the heads of the congress critters who voted for it.

I guess this is one way to get the retirement money your government owes you when instead they hand it to Donald Trump’s handlers for weapons.

A gang of brazen thieves dropped the priceless Eugénie Crown outside the Louvre in Paris during a jaw-dropping daylight heist of the world’s most visited museum.

The group of criminals swiped priceless items, including a necklace and a brooch once belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte and his wife Josephine, in broad daylight, forcing the tourist attraction to shut its doors.

The raid, which took place at around 9.30am on Sunday, saw the thieves brazenly break into the art museum, which is also home to the Mona Lisa, by propping a huge freight elevator up against its walls, according to an investigating source.

The group of three ‘highly organised criminals’ arrived on scooters, masking their faces to hide their identity, before pulling out chainsaws and making off with precious pieces worth millions, it added.

“I also want to make one thing clear: I hold no anger toward anyone, not even my critics. I move forward with humility, with gratitude, and with peace in my heart. Life is too short to waste on bitterness or vengeance. There will be no revenge, no retribution. We are all Americans, and at the end of the day, we all want the same thing, a better, fairer country for everyone.

Inspired by President Trump’s work toward peace in the Middle East, I am dedicating myself to doing good, to building bridges instead of walls. My focus will be on prison reform and accountability, ensuring that those in power uphold the dignity and humanity of every person in their care. No one should ever be dehumanized or degraded like I was by the FCI Fariton Warden Kelly and Assistant Warden Nobile.”

When the SS trust fund runs out (2032 or 2033) the oldest GenXers will be 67; the youngest will be 52. Then we will see how the GenXers feel about SS cuts that hit THEM.

  115. OC1 says:

the plan will most likely be to privatize it.

The problem with privatizing SS is that it’s mostly (aside from the trust fund) a “pay as you go” system. SS taxes paid by current workers get paid out current retirees.

If you privatize it then (presumebly) the SS taxrs being paid by current workers will be diverted to their private retirement accounts.

So if that happens where do we get the money to pay current retirees?

Maybe somebody has a good plan that would handle that, but I haven’t heard it.

If she does that to her baby, could you imagine how she treats her employees..

A top healthcare executive and her husband have been charged after they allegedly abandoned their six-month-old daughter on a beach for nearly an hour.

Sara, 37, and Brian Wilks, 40, were arrested on October 10 after police responded to reports of a baby being left unattended on Miramar Beach in Florida.

When officers arrived, they found the child being cared for by Good Samaritans at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and Spa.

While authorities waited for paramedics to arrive, the couple, who live in a $970,000 home in Houston, Texas, made their way back to the spot and confessed to leaving their child there.

They both admitted they placed the baby under a tent for a nap, left with three other kids, went on a walk and ‘lost track of time,’ according to authorities.

Sara, a regional president for US Heart and Vascular, and her husband, did not take their phones with them while they were away from their child, surveillance footage showed.
