From Jersey Digs:
Here’s What’s Next for Newark’s Anheuser-Busch Brewery
The iconic Budweiser eagle taking flight from its perch next to the Turnpike earlier this month is the definitive end of an era in Newark. For more than 75 years, the 87-acre Anheuser-Busch Brewery, with its 15-ton eagle, sat at the nexus of Newark Liberty International Airport, I-95, I-78, and U.S. 1-9, at the heart of the busiest corridors in the country, embodying the cultural and economic heritage of Newark in the 20th Century.
National brands in the beverage industry, including Ballantine, Pabst, Krueger, and Hensler, were among the more than 25 breweries that called the city home in the early 1900s.
When Anheuser-Busch opened its 3.2 million-square-foot facility, it arrived as the beverage industry reached its peak in the city, employing thousands of blue-collar residents from Essex, Hudson and Bergen counties. The brewery opened in 1951 and was the second-largest Anheuser-Busch facility in the country outside of the company’s main brewery in St. Louis, Missouri.
The facility employed more than 500 workers by the time it closed in late 2025. It was the last survivor of its kind in Newark, and the sale of its building and massive campus will give way to data centers and additional light manufacturing space. Multiple sources reported that Goodman Group, an Australia-based global asset management firm with an $86 billion global portfolio of real estate for industrial and data center use, intends to repurpose the brewery to better serve the needs of the modern economy.
Goodman Group invests on behalf of institutional investors, including Canadian pension plans and Australian superfunds. In the Garden State, it is known as the firm that recently purchased the New York Daily News printing plant next to Liberty State Park in Jersey City – a property that it intends to turn into data center space – but the firm also has a substantial industrial footprint in the Meadowlands and in the New York City area.
…
Like the Ballantine brewery in the Ironbound, or the Pabst brewery in Newark’s West Ward, and the former Edison Rail warehouse downtown, the Anheuser-Busch facility represented a moment of economic prosperity in the city’s 360-year-old history. While the data centers may bring a windfall in tax revenue to the city, the repurposing of the facility reflects a visual transition from manufactured goods at the heart of Newark to the digital economy and financial services.

Make America Great Again. By handcuffing five year olds. Isn’t that what they did on Epstein island?
“Why detain a 5-year-old?” Zena Stenvik, the superintendent of the Columbia Heights Public Schools district, located just north of Minneapolis, said at a news conference. “You cannot tell me that this child is going to be classified as a violent criminal.”
While the data centers may bring a windfall in tax revenue to the city, the repurposing of the facility reflects a visual transition from manufactured goods at the heart of Newark to the digital economy and financial services.

Cuban Detainee in El Paso ICE Facility Died by Homicide, Autopsy Shows
By Pooja Salhotra
Jan. 21, 2026
A Cuban immigrant’s death in an El Paso detention center this month was ruled a homicide, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday by the county medical examiner’s office.
The detainee, Geraldo Lunas Campos, 55, became unresponsive while he was physically restrained by law enforcement on Jan. 3 at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility called Camp East Montana, the report said. Emergency medical workers tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The autopsy listed the cause of death as “asphyxia due to neck and torso compression.”
Trump walks into Davos, eviscerates the whole fucking room, calls out all the wine-sipping phonies, tells them to shove their climate change, all inclusive message up their ass and demands that they grow a pair, clean up their house, sit up, pay up and shut up. It’s remarkable.
8:14 you mean Trump embarrasses himself again
And the left’s response to all of it? Hand-picked outrage. One painfully irrelevant story after another akin to a fat, ugly 42 year old broad wiping away tears as she ravages her 2nd box of Dubai chocolate.
The easily distracted 79-year-old said that those who have joined the Board of Peace are “friends of mine,” before turning his head to double-check while standing silently on stage.
“Yeah, every one of them is a friend of mine. Let’s see, a couple I like, a couple I don’t like. No, I actually like this group, I like every single one of them. Can you believe it? Usually, I have about two or three that I can’t stand,” he said.
Dunning Kruger in full effect. Perfect for bottom feeders.
I didn’t know Newark had so many breweries back in the day, IS this repurposing of the old AB brewery going to be the Renaissance of Newark?
To the weather nerds on the forum: How much of the storm news is hype? Do I need to buy gas for the generator or just shovels?
US economy grew 4.4 percent in the 3rd quarter, jobless claims inched up by 1000, to around 200,000, which is low, and on an unadjusted basis are lower than last year. No hiring no layoffs at the moment, or at least that is the perception, but there are layoffs going on. Middle managers are where the cuts are happening.
D Fens: NBC says up to 16 inches of snow in NYC this weekend.
“WASHINGTON (AP) — Powered by strong consumer spending, the U.S. economy grew at the fastest pace in two years from July through September, the government said Thursday in a slight upgrade of its first estimate.
America’s gross domestic product — the nation’s output of goods and services — rose at a 4.4% annual pace in the third quarter, the Commerce Department reported Thursday, up from 3.8% in the April-June quarter and from the 4.3% growth the department initially estimated.”
The administration is projecting 5% plus going forward. I said it Monday, if people are willing to pay close to $4,000 per ticket for a college football game, somebody has money. I would say $1,000 is the new $250 but inflation is in the “2s” so… muppet money simply exists.
Speaking of generator gas, I have 5 gallons that I treated 2 years ago but haven’t used. Could I use it in the generator or should I pour it in the car?
What say you?
Sure pour shitty gas into the most expensive gas powered item you own dumb fuck.
Ed – Completely full gas can? It’s probably fine. I would not however run it through the car unless you dilute it 1 part old gas to 3 parts fresh gas etc. Octane loss is the issue, the butane and pentane evaporates is a container that is not full and sealed well, and what is left isn’t exactly gasoline anymore it’s longer-chain molecules heavy stuff that could damage the motor.
You could use it to melt the snow perhaps…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0QTOvdYWeU
Juice,
I was thinking about diluting it in the car but was leaning towards a no. Thanks for the science. I just don’t know what to do with it right now.

Trump burns up 80 years of US goodwill and trust among allies in the free world for some temporary and imaginary “wins” he can brag about to his yes-men. Typical Trump, bullying and alienating friends while flirting with enemies. Still expecting him to sell out to China in return for some prime properties for his family business.

Not only is this the highest GDP print in 2 years, but the last time GDP growth was higher, gov’t was contributing more than twice as much to the headline number – we’re “reprivatizing” the economy as @SecScottBessent has said:

Linda: Okay, everyone stay calm. Stay calm. I saw on Channel 7 that the snow is “accumulating.”
Barbara: Accumulating where, Linda? On the roads? On the soul? Because I’ve already canceled Pilates and emotionally prepared to eat drywall.
Carol: I knew it. I knew it. I bought three loaves of bread and now I’m thinking it wasn’t enough. What if the snow lasts… days?
Janet: Days? Carol, don’t be dramatic. It’s only supposed to be eight inches.
Susan: Eight inches is how it starts, Janet. Then it turns into a blizzard, then the power goes out, then society collapses and we’re bartering batteries for soup.
Linda: Speaking of soup, does anyone have chicken broth? I panic-bought noodles but forgot the concept of liquid.
Barbara: I have broth, but I’m saving it. For morale.
Carol: I filled my bathtub with water.
Janet: Why?
Carol: I don’t know. I saw it on a show once. Or maybe in a dream. Either way, it felt correct.
Susan: My neighbor hasn’t brought in his trash cans yet.
Linda: That’s a sign.
Barbara: A huge sign. When people stop respecting trash day, it means chaos is near.
Janet: You’re all acting like this is the Ice Age. We’ve had snow before.
Susan: Not like this. This snow has intentions. You can tell by the way the clouds are just… hovering. Judging us.
Carol: Should we be texting people? Like… goodbye texts?
Linda: Not goodbye. Just “thinking of you in case roads cease to exist.”
Barbara: I already texted my ex. If I’m dying in a snowbank, he should know he was wrong.
Janet: I’m going to the store. Does anyone need anything?
All at once:
“Milk!”
“Candles!”
“Wine!”
“More wine!”
“Shovels!”
“A generator!”
“Emotional reassurance!”
Susan: Get the good chocolate. The kind for emergencies.
Carol: And batteries. For the radio.
Linda: Do we even own a radio?
Barbara: We will. After tonight, we’ll own everything.
Janet (putting on coat): If I don’t make it back—
Susan: Take pictures of the shelves. We need proof of what the world was like before.
Carol: Godspeed.
Linda: There it is.
Barbara: It’s begun.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) was denied entry to a U.S.-designated venue at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday following pressure from the White House, his office said.
Newsom had been invited more than a week ago to participate in a fireside chat at the USA House, the official U.S. pavilion, which also hosted President Donald Trump for a speech earlier Wednesday. Fortune magazine, the organizer for the Newsom event, had begun promoting it.
Key Drivers of High GDP Growth:
Consumer Spending: A significant rise in spending on both goods (like recreational items) and services (healthcare, travel) fueled growth, notes the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).
Increased Exports & Decreased Imports: A surge in exports and a drop in imports (which subtract from GDP) significantly boosted the overall number, partly attributed to new tariffs, say the BEA, CBS News, and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) (.gov).
Government Spending: Higher outlays, particularly in defense, also contributed to the expansion, reports the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) (.gov).
Investment: Increased investment, especially in digital infrastructure for AI, played a role, notes MSN.
Context & Nuances:
“K-Shaped” Economy: While headline numbers look strong, some economists note a divide, with high-income households benefiting from stock market gains and corporations offsetting tariff costs, while lower-income groups struggle with inflation, according to Reuters and The Detroit News.
Lib,
Even when you take this away, it is still healthy growth at a time when everyone was bearish and crying that the tariffs would tank the economy. Stop listening to the Trump hit pieces. These people are obsessed with hating anything Trump…..they try to turn any positive into a negative. It’s wild. It’s why so many are bearish when they should be bullish…
“Increased Exports & Decreased Imports: A surge in exports and a drop in imports (which subtract from GDP) significantly boosted the overall number, partly attributed to new tariffs, say the BEA, CBS News, and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) (.gov).”
3b, Gen Z ain’t into that.
Lib: It is not just the rich, cruise bookings are up this year and exceeding all expectations, high demand for Caribbean and Alaska, and even on the budget cruise lines. My friend just came back from a mid level cruise line, Caribbean cruise , he said it was packed. We have other friends leaving on Sunday, and this one is sold out as well. People are spending money, and not just the rich, maybe they just don’t care.
BRT: Into what?
Lib, a worst case scenario with the K-shaped economy, the powers that be can always whip up struggling “real Americans” and say that the others (as an example, any successful non-whites, no matter how many generations they have been in the US) stole from the “real Americans”. Happened in Germany with Jews, in Spain with Moors, in Uganda with Indians, in Jerusalem with various groups over centuries, and many other such case that the well educated people here will know better.
3b : I’m thinking breweries and drinking beer like back in the day,
Or maybe Gen z is not into 16 “ers
3b,
Between an uncertain future with AI (either AI automates everything or the bubble bursting deflates the stock market significantly and people lose jobs either way), and rising rhetoric, it is strange that people are not simply saving and praying that any future crash isn’t too dramatic.

US Inflation has further dropped to 1.20% today.
Main drivers of this latest in a series of disinflationary coolings were:
– Food – mostly Eggs
– Household durables – particularly housekeeping supplies
– Alcohol & tobacco – mostly alcoholic beverages
Our number is derived by aggregating millions of real-time price data points every day to calculate a year-over-year CPI % rate. It is comparable but not identical to the survey-based official headline inflation released monthly by the BLS, which was 2.7% for December.

Look at the chart on that link…..inflation is dead. Dropping off a cliff.
How can you hate this economy right now? How? Heading towards goldilocks territory. Low inflation, low unemployment, and high growth.
Gold is getting close to $5,000
Lib: No, but immigrant parents they are the same as Asians or any other immigrant group. Just noting that for whatever reason or reasons, in spite of still high inflation, uncertainty on jobs, and the acceleration of AI, people are still spending money. None thing not to save, its another to keep spending in spite of all the uncertainty.
Trump is suing JP Morgan for 5 billion for closing his family accounts after Jan 6 insurrection. He says it was a woke decision.
Zelensky’s words at Davos.
Europe is lost…
“Instead of taking the lead in defending freedom worldwide, especially when America’s focus shifts elsewhere, Europe looks lost trying to convince the U.S. president to change,” he said in a strongly worded address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, after nearly four years of war with Russia.
“President Trump loves who he is, and he says he loves Europe, but he will not listen to this kind of Europe,” Zelenskyy said. He had met Trump in private shortly before his speech.
“Europe still feels more like geography, history, a tradition, not a real political force, not a great power,” Zelenskyy added.
“Some Europeans are really strong, it’s true, but many say ‘we must stand strong’, and they always want someone else to tell them how long they need to stand strong, preferably until the next election.”
The German Bundeswehr started sending out the first military service questionnaires to 18 year old male and female citizens. After completing the online questionnaire, all male citizens born on or after 1 January 2008 are required to attend a medical exam to determine if they are fit to serve. The idea is that if not enough people sign up it won’t be volunteer anymore. Females can fill out the questionnaire and serve if they want to.
This won‘t go over very well. Europeans are too used to their „work/life“ balance. Basically nobody wants to work. The military is like something far away in a movie to them.

Every morning, this shopkeeper places a sign in his window: ‘Workers of the world unite’. He doesn’t believe it, no-one does, but he places a sign anyway to avoid trouble, to signal compliance, to get along. And because every shopkeeper on every street does the same, the system persist – not through violence alone, but through the participation of ordinary people in rituals they privately know to be false.
Havel called this “living within a lie”.
The system’s power comes not from its truth, but from everyone’s willingness to perform as if it were true, and its fragility comes from the same source. When even one person stops performing, when the greengrocer removes his sign, the illusion begins to crack. Friends, it is time for companies and countries to take their signs down.

Chad : The Europeans are too used to the U.S. doing the heavy lifting, and we have done it since the end of WW 2. The fact Trump said it does not mean it’s not true. The founding of NATO, the ending of the Cold War, the intervention in Yugoslavia while Germany and the rest of Europe sat back and did nothing, and Kosovo. Europe needs to put its big boy pants on now and share the load. They can’t talk about new alliances and new beginnings without getting their own house in order. Ultimately, it will be a good thing for Europe.
Chad: I saw Merz wants to crack down on German abuse of sick days. Apparently they are some of the worst for taking multiple days. So much for German diligence and discipline. Next thing they will be getting fat.
“through the participation of ordinary people in rituals they privately know to be false”
Are people supposed to stop this whole Christmas and Santa Claus bs?

3b,
The Germans I know call it „gelber Urlaub“ (Yellow Vacation), because the sick slip in this area is yellow in color. Merz is on the right track because it is badly abused. Normally you need a doctor‘s note by the third day out sick, but that can be pretty easy to get too.
Chad : I understand you can or could get the Doctors note over the phone. I have to say I am surprised the Germans are scamming like this. It seems out of character .
3b,
NATO and the western world as we know it was built by the US after WWII. Now we are taking it apart. The problem is when you look at the GDP of the EU, and the GDP of the US, Europe‘s is shrinking and in the US it is growing. The gap continues getting wider. They simply don‘t have the resources or the focus of mind to fill the void of the US. They also have a terrible time trying to agree as individual countries on major issues.
3b,
I think that over the phone nonsense started during the pandemic. It just kind of carries on.
Chad: Yes, during Covid, apparently it will be a hardship to end it now according to those opposed to Merz.
Chard – re: The German Bundeswehr started sending out the first military service questionnaires to 18 year old male and female citizens.”
The war in Europe officially started four years ago and they are only now sending out questionnaires?
In a war with Russia the EU’s fragmented armies and military manufacturing industry and low ammunition stockpiles would make them highly vulnerable within 6 months without the U.S. support. Russia makes upwards of 5 million artillery shells annually. I don’t think EU makes even 1 million, and other than France they have no nuclear capabilities and definitely don’t have the numbers when it comes to trained full time troops.
Is it no wonder why Putin refuses to end this war. He isn’t afraid that is for sure.
No One: If we are being honest , it was US money and might over these last 80 years that protected Europe, not just the trust and good will, which often times seemed lukewarm at best. That’s broken now, and we don’t know what will replace it. I doubt Europe is up to the challenge.
Juice Box,
It will take the EU years to right the ship. As Trump famously pointed out, they weren‘t putting any money into defense. The problem is that the locomotive of the EU, Germany, is basically in a de-industrializing mode due to expensive energy costs among other issues. Germany has been pulling the whole train for years.
Juice: Europe does not have the enthusiasm for it either , with the exception of the Poles and possibly the Hungarians.
Chad: No one to take Germany’s place, and yet Europe still talking about Ukraine joining the EU. Also Kosovo, North Macedonia and Bosnia in the approval process at the moment. Poor corrupt countries.
Murphy pardons a Mother who was sentenced to 100 years for burning her 2 toddlers to death in a car back in 1994. 61 years old. Shameful. And he pardoned the Son of a large democratic fundraiser the same day he was sentenced for killing a pedestrian in an a hit and run.
These politicians and their pardons. Just wrong.
Denmark Is seriously considering building multiple small nuclear reactors, thereby ending the prohibition on nuclear energy which was established in 1985.
A real leader would inspire fading friends to rally in the face of the rising China/Russia threat over shared values, not threaten breakup if we don’t get a few shiny baubles right now.
No One: Oh I agree, whether it would work or not is questionable. This should have been done after the breakup of the Soviet Union, during the Clinton era.
The woman Murphy pardoned poured gasoline on her infant daughter and toddler son while they were strapped in their car seats and then set them on fire. She was sentenced to 100 years .

Indian student enrollments in the U.S. are collapsing … down ~75% in the first year of Trump 2.0.
According to Times of India, Indian student enrolments in U.S. universities have fallen by roughly 75% year over year, marking one of the sharpest declines ever recorded.
What’s driving the drop:
•Visa uncertainty: Sudden policy shifts, tighter scrutiny, and longer processing times have made U.S. study a high-risk bet.
•OPT no longer reliable: Students are no longer confident they’ll get post-study work authorization or keep it if rules change midstream.
•H-1B odds worsening: With lottery odds still low and wage rules tightening, the “study → OPT → H-1B” pipeline looks broken.
•Cost vs risk mismatch: High U.S. tuition with no clear path to work or residency is pushing students elsewhere.
Where students are going instead:
•Canada, the UK, Australia, and parts of Europe are seeing rising Indian enrollments, offering clearer work pathways and more predictable policies.

We cannot let them stay.
Debates regarding illegal immigration often focus on policy issues like welfare, healthcare, crime, economic contribution, etc. That is a distraction.
Democracy is the real issue. Status quo is that any city or state desirous of greater power can declare a suspension of federal law and import millions of illegal aliens for the purpose of inflating their electoral votes and Congressional representation.
Arguments about illegal immigrants voting directly in elections fraudulently usually miss this point. If you offer the political architects of these rebellions a trade, permanent amnesty and residency for all aliens with clear agreement that they cannot be counted for the purposes of electing our President or Congress, they will adamantly refuse.
Why? Because the people pushing this do not want immigrants from socially-conservative countries in Latin America to actually vote. They want to vote on their behalf via census representation, much like reconstruction-era Southern states demanded for newly-freed slaves. Their ideal situation is an urban core of deeply aligned ideologues voting with the power of millions of illegal aliens, currently worth dozens of Congressman and eight states worth of electoral votes.
There is an effectively unlimited supply of poor people from poor countries that want to live in the United States who can be used to fuel this strategy. Some might be net positive to the US economy, some might not be, but that is beside the point – all would equally contribute to a future where minority rules the majority with no recourse.
Rewarding states that refuse to recognize the legitimacy of American law ensures other states will use these same tactics, if only to maintain their own relative power. It will end our republic.

Interesting – family in Midwest reports it’s -20 F and are expecting maybe -50 F perhaps coldest in over 40 years. I was there for -25F..and I would say for someone who likes the cold and skiing at elevation that would be too damm cold.
They are good at knitting out there. I have a wool blanket that great grandma knitted, is really awesome and I will be wearing it and watching the NFL this weekend relaxing and staying warm even though it’s not cold here today.
Anecdotal Whole foods was cleared out of chicken and ground beef and lines were really long.
It’s just snow folks don’t take all the food too.
I have a sneaking suspicion that our new governor may start off her tenure just like Murphy did, failing to declare a state of emergency.
ON a weird and COLD note my garage door spring snapped this evening as I was closing it. Unit is nearly 20 years now. First thing I did after assessing the work and watching a you tube on replacing it, my thought was looks easy enough.. However I have chosen to swallow my pride and called a professional who will be arriving tomorrow.. Yes I will pay more allot more but I will be guaranteed to keep all my fingers. Ex-coworker of mine was missing a finger, lost it on a garage door spring…he told me never mess with the garage door springs..I will heed his hard earned advice.. 240 volts no problem, springs while standing on a ladder to tighten them no way…..
Silver tapped $99
Juice, I did my spring a few years back. I just set it up fully compressed with the door all the way up. The spring gets stretched out by the gravity acting on the door as it slides down. I didn’t watch any videos on it. I just watched my other door to see exactly how it functioned.
BRT – going to miss our former governor. As I live close to his former highness highways around here were always salted and freshly paved. Lib and his Montclair neighbors will get the same treatment now.

It was comical, they had a large front loader there too and and several dump truck.. The tree was maybe 30ft?
Nothing ever changes in NJ.
BRT – I was close to DYI. I even saw the spring are cheap are $60-$80..then I remembered my ex-coworker Donnie who was missing his middle finger…
Imagine going thru life with no middle finger?
BRT. She declared one for the cost of electricity. I guess she can have more than one.
Juice: I wonder at what point Murphy realized the being President thing was not going to happen.

When I first moved into this house. I met a neighbour walking a dog. He came over “Who are you, are you moving in?” etc etc etc. He said he owned a garage door company and he took 20 minutes to reprogram the doors with a new code and program the cars. He wouldnt take payment so I sent him an Omaha Steaks box.
He watches the neighbourhood. When I was sunning myself on a Portugese beach during Super Storm Irene, he questioned my inlaws who were evacuated from the Rockaways and set up camp in my place.
I did break a spring and gave hime a call. 20 mins later the van is in my driveway and away he goes. He replaces the spring with the same weight that broke. But when he went to test was not happy with the result. So he swapped out for different weight springs and said that was likely why it broke. The springs were wrong to start. Full tune up on both doors and again said no payment needed. After an argurment he took $100 for the springs and I sent another Omaha.
I lost a roller last week. He walks the neighborhood but has had a stroke so no longer working, so I just replaced it myself. I’m with you, given how much potenial enery is in them (even with the door open), I wont mess with them.
Any questions?

I have a sneaking suspicion our new governor is going to overcompensate. Declare it tomorrow and request statewide closing of all schools/govt offices through Tuesday sort of thing.
So yesterday I saw a lot of cool stuff at the Micrisoft AI conference. Today they Sh1t the bed and took out a lot of infrastructure in the US. The imediate impact to firms was mild, but long term, its a walk up call.

3B – considering how California Governor Newsom imploded at Davos, our former governor Murphy just might throw his hat in the ring. God knows there is nobody else.
As I have been saying what is the message and who is leading the party?
Fab – The idea of standing on a ladder while trying to torque a spring with two flimsy Chinese made wrenches turning with two of my arms ( on a ladder) tightening each 28 quarter turns is a recipe for disaster.
I would rather not…I’ll pay extra…
This is an implosion of America.. not Newssom
