Corporate giants cut thousands of NJ jobs — and more may be coming
Effective today, 1,319 employees of Verizon have been laid off in New Jersey.
The company is one of several big-name employers that are losing workers. A full list is below.
Verizon’s executive leadership and corporate functions have remained in Basking Ridge, while its official headquarters are in New York City.
In November, the telecommunications giant announced 13,000 layoffs worldwide. A spokesman for Verizon on Friday said that New Jersey workers were notified of their layoffs that month.
The Verizon cuts were listed with the 2025 New Jersey Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification as being out of Basking Ridge. The layoffs, however, are statewide and extend beyond that location.
Another big New Jersey employer, Merck, announced 204 layoffs. Some of those cuts, largely out of the pharmaceutical giant’s Rahway complex, will be effective in March and May.
As for new mass layoffs, Target, JP Morgan Chase and Walmart have announced several hundred more New Jersey job cuts, as seen below.

The time to buy snowblowers is at the tail end of the spring home buying season. Nobody wants to take theirs with them, and they refuse to leave them to buyers. Always keep an eye out for a later model Honda during late spring/summer, get ’em for an absolute steal.

I was talking to a project manager at a big corp. And the pep talk they receive from their boss every week is – “be glad you have a job”.
Another person laid off from ETS has been looking for almost a year now. She got a job as a substitute teacher at her kids public school. It was great, until they had a drill and she was crammed into a closet with 20 little kids coughing all over and she got sick. She said enough and quit.
Luckily, her husband who didn’t have a job for the longest time, got one in homeland security.

Yikes they are now saying 3 ft of heavy wet snow down here in Monmouth County.. I expect if we do get that much snow roads won’t be clear until at least Wednesday.
Snowblowers? Ha I was at Lowes and Home Depot yesterday. Spring is sprung there they are selling lawn fertilizer now and gardening equipment. No blowers, no salt no shovels people were buying regular dirt shovels. Supermarkets have allot of empty shelves too.
I am running out now to fill my gas cans…Generator is ready to go. I have a gas fireplace and two portable electric heaters if the power goes out for an extended period…..Should not freeze…anyway. Maybe it’s time for a Generac?

Same, I’m in between 91-98. Was in 2 HD’s and 2 Lowes yesterday, they were out of everything. I was trying to snag an end of the year snowblower.
Grocery store in Wall wasn’t too bad at 11:00, girl at the checkout said yesterday was a zoo, worse than the day before Thanksgiving.
I have the ghetto Generac. Portable generator with a hookup switch that feeds the panel. I can do the furnace, both fridges, tankless gas water heater, and about 60% of my lighting. If it goes I’ll have to shovel my way to the switch.

My TroyBilt Snowblower from 2011 keeps on running. Of course, I do all of the required maintenance (oil changes, axle greasing, etc) every Spring. My Honda Snowthrower (about 25 years old now) starts on the first pull every time.
And how about the POTUS attacking the SCOTUS? So stately.
Now they are saying wind gusts up to 55 mph…..Just drained the portable Generac as there was a 1/2 gallon of stale gas in it. Fresh gas in and a shot of starter fluid into the carb and it fired right up. Air filter is clean and oil was changed last year and I have not run it since. I am an old fashioned cheapo… I run extension cords to the fridges, and internet, and TV. We can all camp out in front of the gas fireplace if power goes out. Portable flashlights charged and the cell phone extra power banks are charged too.
Shoprite was madness….but plenty of food, ran into a few neighbors nobody seems to believe it’s going to be near anywhere near 3 feet..

I never get time to clean the clogged up generator. So, before the last storm I gifted myself a triple fuel Champion inverter. And I’ll only use it with LPG. 2 tanks ready and it starts like a charm. Low noise too.
And if it gets worse, My Honda ridgeline can provide 120V output for essentials.
And then I have enough logs for my fireplace. I jever got around to put a wood burning stove.. but that should be ok.

Generac 10kW Model cost with installation around $8-12k? My gas line is on the opposite side of the house from the panel and meter so I would be on the high end for the install. I have a large round paver wall on that corner, it would hide the generac nicely there behind some shrubs..

You replace the fuel lines when redoing the carb. It’s all in the kits. If you gunked up your gas tank, that’s easy enough to remove and clean out.
