From CNBC:
Pending home sales rose just 0.5% in July
U.S. home buyer demand remained steady in July, although consumers did not react significantly to easing mortgage rates. An index of so-called pending home sales from the National Association of Realtors, which represents signed contracts, not closings, was basically flat, rising 0.5 percent from an upwardly revised June reading.
The index is now up 7.4 percent from one year ago. Pending sales slipped in June but had otherwise been rising for five months.
“Contract activity in most of the country held steady last month, which bodes well for existing-sales to maintain their recent elevated pace to close out the summer,” said Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the NAR in a release. “While demand and sales continue to be stronger than earlier this year, Realtors have reported since the spring that available listings in affordable price ranges remain elusive for some buyers trying to reach the market and are likely holding back sales from being more robust.”
…
Pending home sales in the Northeast increased 4 percent July from June and in the Midwest were unchanged. In the South, sales increased 0.6 percent. The West was the only region to see weakness, with pending home sales down 1.4 percent for the month.

48 children are wounded or killed by guns in the US every day #guncontrol
5 –
3,000,000 Children have been involved in car accidents from 1999-2008. Of which 526,000 have been injured.
That is 821 children per day involved in life altering madness and 144 PER DAY resulting with mild injuries to execution by automobile. Surrender your CO2 polluting environmental doom’s day machine to the Authorities and stop this madness.
Think of the children you prick. #IdiotControl

The “children” statistic, is know to include people in their twenties…including folks like the two in the below article.

Officers spotted the teens, 15 and 17, tucking handguns into their waistbands shortly after 6 p.m. on Calhoun Street, just after they allegedly fired into the North 25 apartment complex, police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said.

In most cases, they are shooting each other. This results in increasing numbers of affordable housing units. How can one be for gun control and affordable housing simultaneously?
I’m in favor of Anon not having guns or a driver’s license.

Lib, explain that Shell receipt. Station not that convenient but close enough. Assuming it is a one-off?
leftwing,
Unless you want to become an Advantage Play gambler, you won’t get that deal. It’s one of the perks I earned last year from Caesars. It’s 40 gallons of gas for free per month for a year. I am so cheap, I bring a 5-gallon fuel container with me since the discount is dispensed as (2) 20-gallon trips. So after the car is filled, I fill the can. I think I paid for gas twice this year. It all adds up. BTW, I’m up nearly 70K gambling this year, not counting perks or comps. I’m talking nothing but the increase in my bank account. Who says the house always wins. BTW, the perks equally add up to another 10K, not counting the free suites.
I’m actually at Caesars more than I would like to admit. What do you play?
There’s only one game to do this on. Video poker. 9/6 Job is the best, but 8/5 BP is still doable when your comp multiplier is 10X or over. Play at Bally’s, not Caesars or Harrah’s. Stay wherever you like. Bally’s offers triple the cashback of the other two. Not sure why, but they do. Study, study, study. It takes a lot of luck to win 70K off of 3 million through. My theoretical cash loss should be $12K. But the perks could easily be worth $20K. Heck, the number of free cruises, free lift tickets and suites in Tahoe, sports tickets with airfare in other cities that I give up number in the 100s easily.
But it requires discipline and study. Two things most people lack. You must practice until you play at 100%. No getting drunk while you play. No gut calls. If you are dealt a flush that’s one away from a royal, you drop that one card. Less than one in 200 have what it takes to beat the house. You also must enjoy statistics, because they’ll be floating through your head in your sleep if you plan to run that kind of dough through the machines.
Nice takedowns of the idiot today. I am waiting for him to retweet how the 2nd Amemdment is used as cover for a white conspiracy to arm the minorities and let them kill each other off.
Yeah, I’ve actually heard that one. Tin foil hats come in all sizes and colors.
Wow. How much time do you spend there to push through that much coin?
I’ve never played slots. BJ mostly, so very disciplined. Rating not that great, despite many times having some good action on the table. Been up big, down big, maybe that’s what they don’t like. Theoretically a wash. Need to figure out which games are rated the highest and put some play there.
Hey anon, how many of those 48 children are gang bangers shooting each other for control of their drug territory?
48 of them Ben.
2 a week are unintentional. So of the 17088 children who die due to gang banging, only 104 are accidental. That’s .006 of all children who die from guns.
Here are some other interesting stats since Adunce brought up the topic. Children under the age of 10–are more likely to die from accidental drowning or burning than accidental shootings. Americans of all ages are 51 times more likely to die from accidental poisoning than accidental shooting.
So obviously, we need to ban poisonous chemicals, all liquids and fire too.
I happened upon an article in the Washington Post that tried to claim these numbers can’t be determined. What a convenient copout when the facts don’t fit the point they are trying to make. I’ve said it here many times before. the NYT and the WP are equally as biased as FAUX News. People want to read and hear what they already believe. It sells a lot of papers!
Baa!
So much good stuff here today. I can go back to work. Tchuss!
#18, What article did you get those numbers from?
Hang on…
I am truly embarassed by the source. Though, they must have better researchers than the WP!!!

“the 17088 children who die due to gang banging”
I don’t know how you are getting those numbers but they are definitely wrong. Something like 200 children die a year due to firearms, about half of which are accidental. Also, just because its not an accident doesn’t mean it was due to gang banging. Murder/suicides count in those numbers.
I got my data from the progressive Twitter feed.
48 children are wounded or killed by guns in the US every day
48 X 365 = 17520. Close enough.
It’s progressive math. Leave out all details if it fits the message.

One summer afternoon (’77 or ’78?) I was pickin’ off mice running in and out of our chicken coup with a pellet gun. Bro and his buddy (not seeing me hidden behind a tree) went to walk in and get some eggs. Pegged him (brother) right in the middle of the right butt cheek as he was opening the door. The scream was unexpected. He ran up to the house telling his bud “I’ve been stung by a BIG bee!”.
Quickly stowed the gun back in the garage (door was open…whew), ran into the woods and then a few minutes later back to the house. Mom asked where I was. Told her I was trying to kill the big water snake that was eating all the big trout (did get the bastard another time but he got a bite of me – still have the scar on my right bicep) when I heard the scream. Didn’t tell any of them the truth until a few years ago.
Ah, being a kid growing up in rural NJ back in the 70’s…
Never heard anyone tell a similar story until now.
*Capture not kill (that would be later via a neighbor) the water snake. Damn those things are NASTY! The only snake in NJ worse is (temperament)…none. Yeah, yeah Copperheads are poisonous but they don’t stand their ground or attack unless cornered. Watersnakes will CHASE you away from their fishing spot!

We ‘the Sheeple’
New evidence that partisanship drove Wisconsin’s John Doe.
Government Accountability Board Director Kevin Kennedy. ENLARGE
Wisconsin’s Supreme Court shut down the John Doe investigation of conservative groups in July, but it turns out the probe was even worse than the judges knew. Documents filed at the state Supreme Court opposing Special Prosecutor Francis Schmitz’s motion to reconsider show that partisan motives ran through those who conducted their operations in secret while using gag orders to silence targets.
Wisconsin’s Government Accountability Board (GAB) regulates elections. Emails we’ve seen show that GAB staff, including Director Kevin Kennedy, worked with Mr. Schmitz and the Milwaukee Democratic District Attorney’s office to subpoena and intimidate the major conservative players in Wisconsin politics. The investigation coalesced around the controversy over Governor Scott Walker’s union reforms and pushed the liberal agenda to limit political speech.
In an email to Mr. Schmitz on Nov. 27, 2013, GAB staff counsel Shane Falk encouraged the special prosecutor to keep up the good work and “stay strong” in his pursuit of conservative nonprofit groups and allies of Mr. Walker. “Remember, in brief, this was a bastardization of politics and our state is being run by corporations and billionaires,” Mr. Falk wrote. “That isn’t democracy to say the least, but due to how they do this dark money, the populace never gets to know.”
“The cynic in me says the sheeple would still follow the propaganda even if they knew,” Mr. Falk continued, “but at least it would all be out there so that the influences on our politicians is clearly known.” By “the sheeple” Mr. Falk means Wisconsin voters.
In June 2014, Mr. Schmitz’s attorney, Randall Crocker, issued a statement saying that Governor Walker was not a target of the investigation into campaign finance coordination. “You just lied to the press,” Mr. Falk wrote in an email to Mr. Schmitz, copying Mr. Kennedy, others at the GAB and Milwaukee DA John Chisholm. “See the attached ‘target’ sheets from our search warrant and subpoena meeting. I see ‘SW’ right up there near the top on Page 1. Is there someone else that has those initials?”
The Doe team was also apparently concerned that exonerating Mr. Walker as a target might have an effect on the election or damage the chances of 2014 Democratic nominee for Governor Mary Burke. “If you didn’t want this to have an effect on the election, better check Burke’s new ad,” Mr. Falk continued, “Now you will be calling her a liar. This is a no win.”
Was Mr. Falk reprimanded for his obviously partisan motives? Apparently not. When Mr. Falk left the GAB last year, Mr. Kennedy sang his praises in a departure memo posted on the GAB’s website, saying he “exemplifies all that is great about the people who work at the Government Accountability Board” and that his contributions “have been critical to steering us through some extraordinarily challenging times.” Messrs. Falk and Kennedy did not respond to requests for comment.
We also know that GAB staff counsel Nathan Judnic marched against Mr. Walker’s Act 10 reforms and wrote on Twitter that the state should “Stand in solidarity. Kill the bill. Support public employees and their right to bargain.”
Democrats trying to salvage the GAB’s reputation have pointed to a recent audit by the state’s Legislative Audit Bureau that raised no major concerns about GAB’s handling of ethics or campaign-finance complaints. One problem: The John Doe process was outside the scope of the audit. Mr. Kennedy put out a statement saying that the audit “puts to rest any questions as to whether the six Board Members exercise independent judgment when they make decisions about complaints, investigations and penalties.”
The six board members? What about the staff? Mr. Kennedy says the GAB is a nonpartisan agency, but the GAB was an active partner in the Doe, and there was nothing nonpartisan about that.
