From the Record:
N.J. added 4,700 jobs in September; jobless rate ticked down
New Jersey added 4,700 jobs in September, putting the state’s job market back on the path of slower growth seen at the start of the year, after the dramatic job losses of the summer.
The state added 3,400 private-sector jobs and 1,300 government jobs, boosting the year-to-date total to 39,600, according to the monthly employment report by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
If the state keeps up that pace, an average of about 4,400 a month, it would add about 50,000 jobs this year. That pace would be higher than the average annual increase of about 35,500 a year from 2011 to 2014.
The jobless rate fell to 5.6 percent from 5.7 percent in August, above the national rate of 5.1 percent.
Economists said that after New Jersey’s job losses in June and July, when the state lost a combined total of 23,000 jobs, the labor market appears to have returned to the moderate – albeit volatile — gains shown in the early part of the year. The state added an average of 6,000 jobs a month from January to May.
“I wouldn’t call it robust, I wouldn’t call it strong,” said Charles Steindel, the state’s former chief economist under Governor Christie. “But certainly it is recovering.”
The report also revised the August employment increase of 13,600 jobs upward, adding 1,900 jobs for a gain of 15,500 jobs in the month. The state has added 20,200 jobs in the last two months.
“This is very much a slow-growth jobs recovery,” said Patrick O’Keefe, an economist with CohnReznick in New York and Roseland. “It’s sort of like climbing up a greased pole — you make some progress and then you slip back. This month we made some progress; it’s a better report than we saw in midsummer.”
O’Keefe said state employment has now grown by 1 percent this year, compared with the national increase of 2 percent over the same period.
Both economists said the unemployment rate fell because of people leaving the workforce, likely because they are discouraged and don’t believe they can find a job, rather than because they had become employed.
frist
I’m guessing there’s no way each 2.6 private sector jobs (McDonalds/Starbucks?) will pay enough in taxes to pay the salaries and benefits of each government job added.
The state added 3,400 private-sector jobs and 1,300 government jobs
Very reassuring to hear that the public sector is doing so well.

We spend almost 4x as much as China with 1/4 their population. We haven’t had a Trade Surplus in Decades. That means this Countries are just taking all our hard earnings. 4X what they spend with quarter of their population
Keep in mind that a lot of Chinese wealth is stored in empty apartments.

One of my arguments on quality of life in the NYC metro suburbs. You get earnings classifying you as ‘millionaires’ in the government’s eyes bearing the burden of the highest levels of taxes and redistribution. Yet actual cash savings are nominal.
Usually ends up being a black/red type leveraged bet on increased value in the primary residence. Worked for prior age cohorts, can continue to work.

Former Speaker Dennis Hastert To Plead Guilty In Hush-Money Case
Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert is expected to plead guilty later this month to charges that he agreed to pay $3.5 million to cover up allegations of misconduct and then lied about it to authorities, according to his lawyers.
In this country, our government, paid for by Wall Street, encourages mass consumption and debt. Let’s face it, Wall Street dies without the continued growth of debt. This is evident in that the treasury has made it incredibly difficult to purchase US bonds. Plus, there is a pretty low yearly limit. It is also evident in years and years of 0% interest rates for the consumer, which is essentially set by the FED.
In China, there is a social construct that encourages savings. Since there are many more males than females due to the selective abortion by many of females, especially with the old quotas in place, families use savings as a method to make their male offspring more attractive in the marriage market.
Additionally, for years the soci@list government encouraged savings to build infrastructure and to create jobs. Only recently have they reversed course.
Thanks to Grim’s mod filters, I just discovered that you can’t be a Soc1alist without C1alis. Poor Bernie probably can’t get it up.

The only banker sued for the housing crisis prepares her appeal
Rebecca Mairone scarcely deserves a mention in the annals of finance, except for this: Shes the only executive of a major U.S. mortgage lender found liable for her part in the 2008 financial crisis.
Mairone was chief operating officer for a division of Countrywide Financial Corp., the California giant that came to symbolize the excesses of the subprime era. While top executives there and elsewhere walked away, Mairone, now 48, was targeted by federal prosecutors. In October 2013, a Manhattan jury found her liable for misrepresenting the quality of mortgages her company sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff called her testimony implausible and slapped her with a $1 million fine. Bloggers said she helped destroy the U.S. economy and should be jailed or worse.

I live in a house I bought in 1994 for $126,000 at 2x income back then. I avoided paying room and board for Kids College at RU they drove to school. Paid cash for their tuition. they don’t have loans. I let them live in my house free after College with good jobs in condition they save 30% of their income plus 10% in 401k. I drive a 2002 and 2004 Merc I bought brand new. 16 years later paid for itself. I save ,save and save.
How come Americans only have Less than $1,000 in savings and Chinese $50,000 that makes a lot less than their counterpart? As you said it is our choice. We want to be poor. Yup, buy an EB-5 visa for just 500k. That’s right, skip all of the hard steps if you put up a little hard cash and have a business that has 10 employees. Janitorial service would be simple to do.

32 Lib,
Dead on.
But lets not forget the constant droning of marketing.
Here you teach your little ones to constantly need things that we all know they don’t need.
The proof- people on you tube are making MILLIONS with videos of opening toy packages- absolutely insane. Kids watch this stuff.
Take my daughter to the supermarket- I explain to her how things are arranged to separate her from her money and how to be focused, explain the bank and loans, explain how when you spend you NOT ONLY lose what you spent but what profit that money would have made.
Walmart is puckering up due to technology aka online shopping/price matching.
Everyone has a price matching device in their pocket now. Having a building/employees/local tax bill is starting to hurt. When I was in Switzerland, I went to a car dealership-with 6 cars-test drive, order it, wait. Not like here. Impulse buying is the ticket to a marketer……
I am registering as a Democrat (from Republican) to ensure Bernie gets the Dem nomination over Hilary. I’m not concerned about the Rs at this point. They are stupid to position themselves to get out of an empty bag with holes in both ends.

P.S. Thanks CMD for adding redux to my vocabulary… I learned something on this forum….
Phoenix1. Good. My older son never asks for anything at the supermarket. As a matter of fact, he knows about the impulse products near the register, and why they have TV monitors there too. He actually takes pride in knowing that marketers are constantly trying to fool him. The supermarket is really an excellent place to learn about it. Next time you all go to ShopRite, check out the pricing on the eggs. It’s actually cheaper per egg price to buy a dozen rather than 18 eggs. Figure that one out! As a rule, we simply don’t buy most dry goods unless they are on sale or with a coupon. As for meat, I only splurge on the good stuff when they go on manager’s special or on massive sale. On a rare occasion I will let my son pick out one item in the whole store just to keep him from complaining about having to be there. We grocery shop to fill the pantry about once every two weeks accept to buy bread (rolls), cold cuts for Junior and milk. Thank the lord for the route 46 farmers market too.
46. Lib,
Do you think fathers or mothers do more of this kind of teaching?
I think it’s gender neutral. I have one sister who gets it and lives similarly. I have another who spends like the average American on crap they don’t need. You should see their new fireplace. It’s much prettier than the old one. Especially the $2,000 piece of reclaimed wood from an old collapsing farmhouse that is the mantle. Me, I’ll stick with my old dilapidated fireplace that still works just fine. I’ll invest that 10K and twenty years from now, will use it to pay for trip around the world. I wonder what 40K will get me then? My sister, she’ll have the memory of a pretty fireplace while she dines on Friskies. Maybe her semi spoiled children will support her? I doubt it though, as they’ll be too broke as they don’t even know how to mow a lawn, repair a leaky drain, etc. But man can they play a mean video game!
re # 44- This is a machine state, whomever the Dems want they will get, they have only been raising money for Hillary, it was decided back in April. In the 2008 Democratic primary they delivered 613,500 votes for Hillary, she beat Obama by over 100,00 votes. For Bernie to win the Democratic Primary in NJ he will need a similar turnout.
“Aspiring rapper shot and killed outside Clifton liquor store where he worked”
Here’s a quote from the article.
“It sounds unreal, but all Leo cared about was working and his family,” Tigney said.
Juice…if the momentum continues as I expect it to, I think you’ll be surprised. Though really, NJ votes so late in the primaries that it really doesn’t matter. I’ve watched snippets of the debate and it’s obvious who the media is pushing for since they always sponsor the front runners. But from what I’ve seen, Bernie destroyed that weakling Hilary.
Hahaha, sorry about my OCD but of all the commentary above the piece I’m pulling out of the above is eggs.
WTF happened to prices there? Just came back from the local produce store, which has ridiculously cheap prices on everything, did I miss something?
Seems like a monster jump in two weeks.
I wanted to reply to Yome with a question but discovered that prescr1Pt1on is on the black list
Re: 51 – point is Hope n Change was defeated in NJ in 2008. Where did those 600,000 votes for Hillary come from? She already has the machine this year, lots of Pols including Bobby J and Booker, Fulop and Ras Baraka plus the unions.
Bernie isn’t promising jobs like the machine in NJ does, it will be up a steep steep hill for him to get better than 50%.

#48..here is how America works. 5 friends go out to dinner. 3 choose “wraps” at $10 per, 2 choose full entries at $25 per. Total $80. The 2 with entrees exclaim they were waitresses and suggest a $20 tip , ok….total $100. Then they suggest the bill is split 5 ways, everyone kicks in $20. And this happens.

I dont expect the culture of spending to be less. What I question is who benefits this money. Remember, China carried the world during the recession. They spent 1/4 of what we usually spend with 4x our population.
I remember before this so called Free Trade Agreements. Before 1994 trade was balance. After 1994 imports started to accumulate and exports start to decline. We pity poor China. Boat people come to our shore,we accepted them. Our prices of goods went down because of cheap imports ,that goes with our income too. Our income became stagnant.
How did we survive with more expensive goods before 1994 the Free Trades? Our Incomes went up matching what we buy. We pay more for our goods but that money stayed domestic. Today we spend 4x the next economy but the money goes to them.
Did we not have it better paying more for goods and money stayed domestic? Un educated factory workers had pensions. Common workers celebrated once their house is paid off and more money they can save?
I remember living in Asia, dreaming of owning Levis,Dungarees,Hush Puppies only the rich can afford. Today our goods is so cheap everyone can have them but dont want to

Since this concerns a matter that I will probably be involved with very shortly, it behooves me not to comment. However, as I noted above, some would possibly be looking for a comment. My comment was to advise those looking for a comment that I would not comment.
I hope this comment is responsive to your comment.

You’re not wrong. Senate Democrats are already looking to pass legislation to overturn the Kline-Miller amendment.
Ironically, based on a quick read, pensioners in these pensions would still make out better then if PBGC took them over. I seem to recall that the minimum benefit is still 110% of the PBGC benefit. And at PBGC, the multiemployer fund is the one that is in dire straits. This measure was intended to prevent the fund from going in solvent sooner.
This is a topic that I will probably be publishing on soon. I also have clients that may fall into this boat. Hence my reticence to go to deep into details.

First noticed that at Target years ago in vitamin section. They were playing games with the prices with the smallest container being the most economical and the largest container being the complete ripoff. Me, being in education, have no doubt that 60% of the population has no clue and it makes it more profitable. At some random moment, they reversed the prices to try to fool those who saw through it the first time. I nearly fell for it because I assumed the price was the same as a few months back. Caught it at the register though.

He glares, says “forget anything you learned, it’s BS. You’ll never hear me use debit or credit. I’ll teach you what you really need to know.” Best year and change of my life. Still use in my businesses today the lessons learned there.
If you needed any more reasons to vote for Bernie, here is another. If you complain about corruption and don’t vote for Bernie, then keep the complaints to yourself. You have your chance to do something about it. So do it.

I would want to see Bernie because he would be a one man recession but would not actually do anything except issue executive orders and scare half the country. And there is opportunity there

Ask yourself this: if you could and you might not survive if you didn’t, wouldn’t you?
There are reasons they move. Or don’t. You’re a financial analyst, figure it out.
Multinational corporations are like lightning. They follow the path of least resistance…..
A multinational corporation (if it really was a person) would have no trouble butchering it’s entire family, including a baby, if it would forward it’s agenda…..
