From Bloomberg:
Americans Turn More Pessimistic on Economy
The number of Americans expecting the U.S. economy to get worse in the next year is at its highest point since 2013, a national NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows.
…
Overall, 28 percent of Americans said the economy will get better in the next year, while 33 percent predict it will get worse, according to the survey, which was released Sunday. Those numbers were essentially reversed from January, when 35 percent said the economy would get better and 20 percent said it would get worse.

Turning point? U.S. home sales slumped as listings surged in November, Redfin reports
Home sales nationwide fell in November at the fastest rate in two years while the number of homes listed for sale increased at the fastest rate in three years, according to a report by Seattle-based brokerage firm Redfin.
“The tide has turned. Sellers are now competing for buyers, but they haven’t all realized it yet,” Redfin chief economist Daryl Fairweather said in prepared remarks.
“Sellers holding out for high prices are contributing to declining home sales and growing inventories,” he said. “We see few signs that buyers are likely to reward their patience.”
Home sales in November dropped 8.3 percent from November 2017 while the number of homes listed for sale last month increased year over year by 4.9 percent, Redfin reported.
…
Redfin reported that the median sale price of U.S. homes sales rose to $298,800 in November, up 3.3 percent from November 2017 – the third consecutive month of annual median-price growth under 4 percent following 77 consecutive months of growth over 4 percent.

Google to invest $1 billion in new campus in New York City
Google will invest $1 billion in a new campus in New York City, the company announced on Monday.
The new 1.7 million square foot “Google Hudson Square” campus will include two buildings located at 315 and 345 Hudson Street and an office space situated at nearby 550 Washington Street in Manhattan, Google said in a blog post on Monday.
The move will expand Google’s presence near the Hudson River in New York City. Earlier this year, the search giant announced it had purchased shopping and office complex Chelsea Market for $2.4 billion.
Google said the Hudson Square campus will be the main location for its New York-based global business organization. It said the investments in Chelsea and Hudson Square will create capacity to more than double headcount in New York over the next decade. Google currently houses more than 7,000 employees in New York City in a range of teams including Search, Ads, Maps, YouTube and Cloud.
“Our investment in New York is a huge part of our commitment to grow and invest in U.S. facilities, offices and jobs,” Alphabet CFO Ruth Porat said in the blog post.

Everyone claims that taxes are theft….the real theft is how many people are getting away with not paying their share. It will collapse in time, and it’s due to greed. Everyone wants their govt to provide everything for them, but they refuse to pay the bill. We are a country corrupt individuals, but hey, that’s human nature for you.
You want to think that most rich are noble hardworking individuals being rewarded for providing a service to society……..but when you wake up and smell the coffee, you understand how these people became so wealthy. It’s much easier to get into heaven being poor as opposed to rich, and that still applies in late 2018.
“The Golden Age of Rich People Not Paying Their Taxes
An eight-year campaign to slash the IRS’s budget has left the agency understaffed, hamstrung, and operating with archaic equipment. The result: a hundred-billion-dollar heist.”
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/12/rich-people-are-getting-away-not-paying-their-taxes/577798/
All this crying of taxes holding them back, but how many businesses actually pay what they are supposed to? All stealing money by hiding their income or doing god knows what shady accounting practices. Then they cry how they can’t operate their business under this tax percentage…blah blah. What business or rich individual actually pays the percentage they are supposed to pay? I know of none.
Society is a joke that rewards unethical corrupt bastards. Only suckers follow the law and do the right thing.
Everyone claims that taxes are theft….the real theft is how many people are getting away with not paying their share.
Fair share? That’s defined by a government that wastes all kinds of money. Why not reduce it to something reasonable to the honest people you so proudly represent can prosper as well?
Better yet, tell us how much you declared on those tennis lessons
Ahh, the typical justification thieves use to justify cheating their fellow citizens on the tax bill. If it makes you feel better….
“Fair share? That’s defined by a government that wastes all kinds of money. Why not reduce it to something reasonable to the honest people you so proudly represent can prosper as well?”
The govt wastes money so it’s okay to cheat on your taxes.
They also overpay their workers with decent pay and good benefits. So we have to dodge taxes for this reason.
Who exactly is not paying reasonable taxes? Who? I see more billionaires/millionaires every got damn year. Yes, the tax system is so oppressive. How do people become so wealthy off a system that’s holding them back? Please explain.
“Why not reduce it to something reasonable to the honest people you so proudly represent can prosper as well?””
Or move to Costa Rica where the government is so small that even with completely nationalized health care, no one complains about taxes. Why? No military to pay for. They also take pride in NOT voting along party lines and no campaign financing is allowed. As long as you get 5% of the vote, you get your fair share of the government’s election budget with is 1/2 a percent of the total budget. Voting is celebrated there with fiestas!
Punkin Tard,
Just because you grew up with and still hang out with crooks doesn’t mean everyone else is crooked.
I pay over $1m per year and works out to be over 40% of my income.
I’m still waiting for you and all leftists to define what my “fair share” is.
Because every time my taxes get raised, it’s explained as making sure I pay my “fair share”. And yet immediately after, leftists still complain that “the rich” still aren’t paying their “fair share”.
Did you know that 43% of households pay no income tax at all?
Did you know that the top 3% of households pay over 50% of all income taxes?
By what moral standard do you use to define “fair share”?
What stocks are you buying today Pumps, O mighty caller of all callers?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhazhah!
^^^ I think I remember somebody short on brains saying something like, “I’ll buy all I can get at these prices.”
Upper middle class pays all the taxes (this blog minus a few)
Yes, because 43% of the population barely makes any money at all. Which is pretty pathetic. Are we really crying about the taxes people pay that make 30,000 a year? How much could they even contribute? Yes, let’s tax the people with no savings at all, so someone worth 40 million can add another 2 million to their net worth this year.
“Did you know that 43% of households pay no income tax at all?
Did you know that the top 3% of households pay over 50% of all income taxes?
By what moral standard do you use to define “fair share”?”
Therein lies the tipping point. When the “fair share” of the majority becomes zero, what do you think the minority will do?
We have something similar going in Boston when it comes to admissions to one of the best public schools in the nation, Boston Latin. It’s close to 50/50 right now. Half the kids go to private school for grades K-6, than “test in” to Boston Latin (Actually the admission process takes into account score on the ISEE exam and grades from 5th and 6th). Boston has gone to great extents to seek out the smartest kids in their schools (based on another exam, the Terra Nova) and then “teaching” them over the Summer how to get a good grade on the October ISEE exam.
My take is that the City of Boston will be in a world of political hurt if the percentage of kids who come from private schools rises above 50% for admission and public school kids are actually in the minority for admission to the best public school.
Have to keep the zero taxpayers below 50% and the number of public school students in the best public school above 50% or there will be a lot ‘splainin’ to do.
Did you know that 43% of households pay no income tax at all?

Did you ever take a balloon and twist it up so that it makes two similarly sized balloons separated only by the twisted up part in the middle, that prevents air flow to one side from the other? When you untwist it, it’s shaped kind of like barbell with a thick short bar connecting the two. You can squeeze some air from one side to the other while still seeing the separation but…if you squeeze too much air from one size to the other (think of those who pay taxes and those who take taxes), all of a sudden it’s one balloon again (where nobody is on the pay side).

Then why does the royal family in Saudi Arabia pay off the people “they serve,” I mean pay off the people below them. They give everyone in that country money, now why? It’s a tax on them, but they pay it, now why? Guns can’t protect them from the people they need to work for them…..they have to pay them off so everything runs smoothly and society doesn’t collapse and take out their wealthy position above the rest.

The U.S continues to provide the value for all paper money. Unless you have oil, or other hard assets, consider yourself screwed. Even if you own hard assets in this scenario, good luck paying for the defense of it. People will be coming for your hard assets.

The return of volatility was long heralded as key to a rebound in hedge fund performance. Yet the recent wild swings in stocks aren’t helping Druckenmiller because they haven’t been accompanied by any discernible trends. And after four decades in the financial markets, he said he’s never seen an environment in which changes of direction have been so extreme.
“Volatility is only good if it’s part of the trend and it’s giving you entry points within a trend,” he said. “When you’re going up and down, but there’s no real trend, that’s a nightmare. You might think that a volatility move is the beginning of a trend and get yourself whipsawed.”

Any recommendations for a cheap but good laptop home use, internet surfing and printing pictures. Looking to spend 200 to 300 bucks. Thanks.
Find the cheapest Lenovo Yoga that’s as powerful as your budget will allow. Most laptops today are completely disposable. I’ve had fantastic luck with Lenovo. The Y40-Y80 is the best bang for the buck ever. They sometimes offer crazy coupon code deals especially on refurbs (most of which are simply returns due to someone changing their mind).

This is what I’m talking about. Bullet proof model. Great screen. Pretty powerful.
Nothing you buy new for $300 will be fast or will you avoid it going obsolete in months.
Thanks Stu. Appreciate it. How much up in price do I need to go if I buy new new, 400,500? Does the model you refrence come new?
Truth be known 3B, wait until just after Xmas. You could probably buy new for about $500. Wait for the Legion Y530 to come down.
Libturd,
I’d avoid Lenovo like the plague. My wife wanted one because she likes the little tab mouse on the keyboard. I bought 3 different models and had to return each one. The computers were essentially nonfunctional. They would all lock up, despite the fact that not a single thing would run on them.
I’ve loved them in the past but 3 in a row…something’s wrong with the company. I’m going to buy a new Surface soon.
I meant despite the fact that we installed not a single program outside of firefox.
I got a new Lenovo Thinkpad for $300 about 2.5 years ago with 500 GB solid state, 8GB RAM and Windows 7 Pro. Love it. My laptops only last 3 years with my 4 and 2 year olds adding to the general drops and damage. I never spend more than $350. I would avoid Acer or HP at that price point. You will sacrifice graphics and quality wireless card at that price but no big deal. Just get solid state drive and upgradeable ram.
