Is a one-time $125 property tax credit really worth that much? Well, it would be a good start, Murphy insists.
Admittedly, a one-time $125 property tax credit for two million residents of the state with the highest property taxes in the nation isn’t much.
But it’s a good start, argued Gov. Phil Murphy, who has said New Jersey tax filers will receive the credit if state lawmakers pass his proposal to raise income taxes on the state’s millionaires.
Murphy said the one-time credit would be on top of other property tax credits, like the homestead credit.
But taxpayers shouldn’t start counting on the extra $125, because lawmakers are refusing to give Murphy his millioinaries tax. The Democratic-controlled state Legislature has not included it in the state budget its plans to pass Thursday.
Murphy floated the $125 credit as a way to incentive lawmakers in his own party to support a bump in the income tax for people who earn more than $1 million.
Taxpayers — including both homeowners and renters — who earn $10,000 to $250,000 a year in gross income would qualify for the credit.
Murphy is a loser. Sweeney and Norcross dictating agenda. Not good for NJ’s future. Home prices turn negative in 2020?

If the top was given low taxes, but did not create jobs with it or gives raises; how do we get money into the hands of consumers? How is the money redistributed through the economy? Based on the results of the trump tax law, you have no choice but to tax them in order to grow the economy long term. If they won’t reinvest the huge surplus given to them in the form of tax breaks in American jobs, education, and infrastructure, someone will do it for them.
Why can’t you understand this? Taxation is not theft. It’s used to invest in society so that businesses can grow. Society gains nothing from billionaires placing their money in safe havens or hidden in off-shore accounts. That’s not how capital is to be used. Capital is a tool of the capitalist economy and it should be used appropriately. The system wasn’t invented so that a few could produce massive fortunes at the expense of everyone else.
Who would willingly participate in an economy in which only a few receive the spoils of economic growth? Why you take the position that the capital is all theirs is beyond me. The economy is a team game, and I wish you could understand this.

True story….. last weekend I was at my son’s basketball game and was getting annoyed. My son has grow about 5-6 inches in height in the last 6-9 months, but he still approaches the game more as the shooting guard/small forward he was, and not the power forward/center sized player he is. I keep telling him to stand in the paint on defense and disrupt, and also to focus more on driving and drawing contact on offense instead of settling for his stupid 3’s.
Anyway, it is impossible to communicate with him during in the game unless you shout at him over the din in the gym. The contractor has leverage only in as much as he can leave. That’s it. The execs know exactly what risks, or lack thereof, they have with a contractor departure. Hint – There is no risk.

I agree that this is their thinking but in reality, a contractor was a resource needed by period of time. Quite often, 6 months becomes 1 year and 1 year becomes 2 if they are good. Having blanket rules to cut their pay and eliminate them after 2 years is nonsensical if project has not been delivered. 2 years of knowledge and ownership gone in a flit. The mgt thinking is “oh, you should have cross trained and transferred ownership to your team before contract ends”. They firmly believe everyone has same skill and knowledge that can be easily transfered. Pure delusion and getting worse. All to save a nickel.
ByS- This is a valid point that I missed earlier. The contract worker does have some leverage prior to the project completion. Their individual and collective knowledge of the specific task is worth something.

D, like I I said, you are a loyal soldier for your team. Admirable, but understand your team is not all knowing and always right.
Your team attacks union members for coming together and bettering themselves. Your team claims the union members are too rich and have a monopoly on the market. Now in the same breath, your team makes claims like get your hand out of the pocket of the rich. Well, why do you have your hand in the unions pocket? Hypocrites. They earned it just as much as the rich, they did what they had to do to better themselves but here you are advocating to go into their pocket.
How do you people live with yourselves on this position? You attack workers because they make a 100k and this is too rich…country can’t afford it. Yet, you defend a few people taking all the profits…see absolutely nothing wrong with it. How can republicans be this dumb? Crying about the guy making 100k while ignoring the billions being made by an individual…can’t make this stuff up.

It’s like the republicans, specifically trump, that are against illegal immigrants, but then have no problem hiring them to save a buck. Republicans are pretty crazy when you think about it.
How about how republicans are against abortion, but then against social support for these people. How does that make any sense? So you are for legally forcing a mother to have a kid, even if she can’t afford it, forcing this child into a life of poverty and crime. And then go cry about how the unions are ruining public education by not being able to help this child…just crazy!
What’s the answer then? How do we fix the state finances? The poor have nothing, there is almost no middle class left. So how do we fix this, by cutting the taxes of the only people actually making money? All in the name of personal ideology rooted in extreme liberalism?
We just had the tax break experiment and how did it work out. Trump claimed it was going to be used to give raises and create good jobs. Why hasn’t it happened? How many times is the populace going to fall for this crap of tax cuts as the answer to it all?

It has already been established that high income tax rates effectively increased in NJ. This “tax cut” for millionaires is a collective delusion. I’m glad that Sweeney actually understands that, and is worried about how moving high taxes even higher would drive more business out of state. Sweeney may be a corrupt bastard, but even he knows that there’s a limit to how much one can try to squeeze people. Murphy doesn’t care, he’s got his own political dreams and plenty of morons like you who think there’s infinite wealth to redistribute.
The dumb populace embrace the repeal of the estate tax. Do you know how dangerous this is? Yet, they embrace it. Are they asking for kings again? So stupid…

I was showing a lovely, four-bedroom colonial to a husband and wife one Saturday. They were in the kitchen with their son, who must have been about 10 years old. The son didn’t want to go outside, so he and the mother stayed inside while I showed the husband the backyard and garage. When I came back inside, she had made the son a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich. She said he was hungry and wanted lunch. She saw nothing wrong with it. The husband then asked if the son wanted a glass of milk. I quickly jumped in and said I’d be happy to buy them lunch, but for now we needed to clean up and put everything away. I made light of it because they were my clients and I didn’t want to offend them. But I made sure everything was nice and clean before we left—I cleaned the knife she used. They didn’t buy that house, and if I remember correctly they haven’t bought anything yet.
