Murphy bribes voters to get his millionaire tax

From the Star Ledger:

Is a one-time $125 property tax credit really worth that much? Well, it would be a good start, Murphy insists.

Admittedly, a one-time $125 property tax credit for two million residents of the state with the highest property taxes in the nation isn’t much.

But it’s a good start, argued Gov. Phil Murphy, who has said New Jersey tax filers will receive the credit if state lawmakers pass his proposal to raise income taxes on the state’s millionaires.

Murphy said the one-time credit would be on top of other property tax credits, like the homestead credit.

But taxpayers shouldn’t start counting on the extra $125, because lawmakers are refusing to give Murphy his millioinaries tax. The Democratic-controlled state Legislature has not included it in the state budget its plans to pass Thursday.

Murphy floated the $125 credit as a way to incentive lawmakers in his own party to support a bump in the income tax for people who earn more than $1 million.

Taxpayers — including both homeowners and renters — who earn $10,000 to $250,000 a year in gross income would qualify for the credit.

Murphy is a looter, the “face” of the current democrat party. Liberals are all about symbolism, all about slight of hand, fraud in the guise of compassion. And the whole lot running for president would have no problem initiating their form of Directive 10-289. Booker is screaming about reparations; AOC wants ultra taxation to benefit those she deems eligible; the rest want equality which is code for even distribution. Fast Eddie,
You’re right about Murphy. What a pathetic limousine leftist he is. His TV ads make it appear that he has the right represent all millionaires in declaring what a “fair share” of taxation is. In leftist speak, high income people never pay their “fair share” regardless of how much they already pay. Then he surrounds himself with “middle class” people who he claims to be all about. How many of them has he invited to stay at his 23 room mansion in Italy?
This guy is all lying power-lust. And he’s as delusional as Chris Christie if he thinks NJ Governorship is a springboard to a higher office.

Luck is a beautiful thing. Imagine if this land was replaced with a golf course and residential units….damn we lucked out. Everything happens for a reason..

“Back when the EnCap project was proposed it was hard not to support a project that was transforming closed old landfills into golf courses with a resort style conference hotel,” said Jim Kirkos, president of the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce.

“In order to make the economics of their investment work, the developer wanted to build a significant amount of residential housing which eventually was not approved because those units would be built on the landfills.”

“Fast forward to today where a very reputable partnership of developers…will build warehouse and logistics facilities on the Kingsland Property that are currently in very high demand for this region,” Kirkos said

  12. The Great Pumpkin says:

    No one,

If the top was given low taxes, but did not create jobs with it or gives raises; how do we get money into the hands of consumers? How is the money redistributed through the economy? Based on the results of the trump tax law, you have no choice but to tax them in order to grow the economy long term. If they won’t reinvest the huge surplus given to them in the form of tax breaks in American jobs, education, and infrastructure, someone will do it for them.

Why can’t you understand this? Taxation is not theft. It’s used to invest in society so that businesses can grow. Society gains nothing from billionaires placing their money in safe havens or hidden in off-shore accounts. That’s not how capital is to be used. Capital is a tool of the capitalist economy and it should be used appropriately. The system wasn’t invented so that a few could produce massive fortunes at the expense of everyone else.

Who would willingly participate in an economy in which only a few receive the spoils of economic growth? Why you take the position that the capital is all theirs is beyond me. The economy is a team game, and I wish you could understand this.

  13. The Great Pumpkin says:

Let’s blame zoning and regulation for the lack of affordable housing everybody! Well then, explain this.

This is a direct sign of income inequality working its way through the markets in the economy. Record level of investors buying homes to flip OR TURN INTO RENTALS.

Income inequality folks, no shocker here that we are seeing investors taking over more and more of the housing market, but let’s blame zoning! The destruction of the standard of living for the majority of the population as the rich take more and more of the pie. This will end well..

“Investor purchases of U.S. homes have climbed to an all-time high, a sign that rising home prices have done little to dampen demand for flipping homes or turning them into single-family rentals.

Big private-equity firms, real-estate speculators and others that buy properties comprised more than 11% of U.S. home purchasers in 2018, according to data released on Thursday by CoreLogic Inc.

The investor purchases are the highest on record and nearly twice the levels before the 2008 housing crash. The investor interest poses a challenge for millennials and other first-time buyers who are increasingly looking to buy starter homes and are forced to compete with deep-pocketed cash buyers.”

  14. The Great Pumpkin says:

Yes, let’s blame govt zoning for investors with much more capital in their hands, taking over the housing stock for the lower and middle class. Move along, nothing to see here…

  15. The Great Pumpkin says:

Now tell me how I’m the moron and I have it all wrong. F the people that bash me, go look in the mirror.

“Investors are an especially powerful force at the bottom of the market, where they often pay all cash. Investors purchased one in five homes in the bottom third price range in 2018, according to the CoreLogic analysis, up 5 percentage points from the 20-year average of less than 15%.

“These are the homes that first-time home buyers would logically be buying,” said Ralph McLaughlin, deputy chief economist at CoreLogic.”

Zoning and regulation absolutely impacts pricing, especially for multi-family.

    Don’t be stupid.

Building code directly impacts the cost of construction, and pricing.

Sprinklers in a 4 unit property? Major investment in cost.

ADA/Handicap accessibility? Major investment in cost.

We can agree that we want these things, need these things, fine. But realize there are costs, which feed through to rent or purchase price.

We now have decades of these wants, needs, desires, feel-good provisions, enshrined in building and zoning codes.

  18. grim says:

Wayne wanted us to put in a dry well for renovations to an existing property. Would have easily cost $5-10k, with zero benefit to anyone.

You don’t think that’s going to impact affordable housing prices in urban Passaic county? Hell, all of Passaic county, since they’ll push for the rest of the county to pay for it, because Paterson can’t.

  19. The Great Pumpkin says:

Grim, I get it, but let’s not pretend that zoning and regulation increases cost to the point that it is unaffordable. Besides the sprinklers, lots of the other stuff makes sense.

“This is not a good trend! I don’t want to be a renter forever, but I refuse to buy a home at the current crazy home prices today. Really, this is hurting our economy, over the long-run, because as a renter, I don’t care for the apartment, nor my furniture or neighborhood or community, but as a owner, I would. My favorite quote from Jeff Bozos is when he told a small business owner ‘Have you ever taken a rented car to the car wash?'”

“The commoditization of single family residential dwellings is a big red flag to me.

The risks include but are not limited to creating another asset bubble to be burst with potentially devastating financial consequences, and diminishing the sense of neighborhood that is the foundation of healthy communities.

The offsite professional investor, not to mention a renter, simply will not take care of a property like a homeowner who wants to raise his/her family and create a lasting home.”

    Grim,

I beg to differ regarding your inequality prediction.

I do think that we are going to have a big fight. https://youtu.be/_AOeSrLCD-U

The fight will be multilayered, multidimensional, with constantly changing vested sinister interests switching sides in the multilayered multidimensional fight. A LSD viewed Rubik’s Cube flipping twice every second.

You got nations. China want to rule the world on its own terms. Russia wants influence the world on its own terms. Turkey wants to rebuild the Ottoman Empire and lead the Arab world on its own terms. Saudia Arabia is AlQuaeda, wants to rule a muslim world. Iran wants to rebuild the Persian Empire and expand its Shite Islam and influence into the Western Hemisphere (that is why they are big in Venenzuela).

You got the naive moronic ideologues billionaires that think they are entitled to rule the world, because Daddy said so and left them a big checking account and they are actions help create crisis. These are your Mercers, Kochs, the Selz ( from the Washington Post – A New York couple is behind more than $3 million in contributions to the anti-vaccine movement, including at two forums that serve the city’s ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. Hedge-fund manager Bernard Selz and his wife, Lisa, started donating to organizations that question the safety of vaccines about seven years ago, The Washington Post reports. The Selz Foundation provides roughly three-fourths of the funding to the Informed Consent Action Network, a three-year-old charity that promotes parental choice in vaccine safety. “They should be allowed to have the measles if they want the measles,” their group’s spokesperson told reporters. “It’s crazy that there’s this level of intensity around a trivial childhood illness.”

You got Big Business. It just wants to make money on its own term costing them the least amount possible.

When you put them all in a blender. History always sorts out the same way.

So, while you think we are heading into bigger inequality. I say, a big fight is coming. The fight itself will force big businesses to come back to the USA to build stuff. Globalization is on its way out. Think December 25,1913 in London and think December 25, 1920 in London to see the shake up.

The rebuilding of stuff in the USA, even aided and abetted by tech and robots, will require a large amount of people driving up wages. A likelihood of shooting war requiring a draft is gigantic, so more people. Immigration is going to be kept low, the upcoming crisis just like after WW1 will make people nationalistic.

As much as Big Business will want to get away with it. They can get away with it, within the county’s rules, regulations, and participating democracy and got to pay up. We are about to go thru the reset point. The aberration is not what is coming. But what was, 30 yrs of moronic leadership by a drug addle spoiled brat selfish generation – the boomers.

The enforcement mechanism is the democratic process and rule of law itself, and its anti-failure mechanism. The mechanism is organized crime (forget about Italians) How many people here are/were from Hudson County and how many of you would like to see the way things run in Hudson County happen in whatever town/county/area you live at? Painting him as an extreme lefty because he wants to restore the tax on millionaires that was in place before Christie is lame. How do you fix the state with no new revenue? You guys dream of cutting it all away when that is not reality. You need to collect new taxes to invest in this state. 64. The Great Pumpkin says:

Here is a little tip, get rid of all the govt workers, lower your taxes, and you will end up with less money in your pocket. Guaranteed. Don’t underestimate the role of govt in our economy. You just destroyed the last of the middle class in our state economy, good luck with that. They serve a major role in our economy with their consumption, but you will never be able to understand that and its implications….your position says so.

Your ilk claim that the rich pay the majority of taxes. Okay, so this is nothing more than a redistribution from the excess of the rich to the middle class.

You are against that? The rich going to drive the economy with their consumption? Are they going to create jobs from their consumption? No, they can only invest to feed the consumption from everyone else. So if everyone consumes less because they haven’t redistributed this money through jobs or raises(less capital in consumer hands), that means there is less investment opportunity available. It’s a downward spiral till you flood the consumers with capital again.

It’s all a balance. One side gets too much and it destroys the economy.

I agree that this is their thinking but in reality, a contractor was a resource needed by period of time. Quite often, 6 months becomes 1 year and 1 year becomes 2 if they are good. Having blanket rules to cut their pay and eliminate them after 2 years is nonsensical if project has not been delivered. 2 years of knowledge and ownership gone in a flit. The mgt thinking is “oh, you should have cross trained and transferred ownership to your team before contract ends”. They firmly believe everyone has same skill and knowledge that can be easily transfered. Pure delusion and getting worse. All to save a nickel.

ByS- This is a valid point that I missed earlier. The contract worker does have some leverage prior to the project completion. Their individual and collective knowledge of the specific task is worth something.

    Punktard,
It has already been established that high income tax rates effectively increased in NJ. This “tax cut” for millionaires is a collective delusion. I’m glad that Sweeney actually understands that, and is worried about how moving high taxes even higher would drive more business out of state. Sweeney may be a corrupt bastard, but even he knows that there’s a limit to how much one can try to squeeze people. Murphy doesn’t care, he’s got his own political dreams and plenty of morons like you who think there’s infinite wealth to redistribute.

D, like I I said, you are a loyal soldier for your team. Admirable, but understand your team is not all knowing and always right.

Your team attacks union members for coming together and bettering themselves. Your team claims the union members are too rich and have a monopoly on the market. Now in the same breath, your team makes claims like get your hand out of the pocket of the rich. Well, why do you have your hand in the unions pocket? Hypocrites. They earned it just as much as the rich, they did what they had to do to better themselves but here you are advocating to go into their pocket.

How do you people live with yourselves on this position? You attack workers because they make a 100k and this is too rich…country can’t afford it. Yet, you defend a few people taking all the profits…see absolutely nothing wrong with it. How can republicans be this dumb? Crying about the guy making 100k while ignoring the billions being made by an individual…can’t make this stuff up.

  74. The Great Pumpkin says:

It’s like the republicans, specifically trump, that are against illegal immigrants, but then have no problem hiring them to save a buck. Republicans are pretty crazy when you think about it.

How about how republicans are against abortion, but then against social support for these people. How does that make any sense? So you are for legally forcing a mother to have a kid, even if she can’t afford it, forcing this child into a life of poverty and crime. And then go cry about how the unions are ruining public education by not being able to help this child…just crazy!

  75. The Great Pumpkin says:

What’s the answer then? How do we fix the state finances? The poor have nothing, there is almost no middle class left. So how do we fix this, by cutting the taxes of the only people actually making money? All in the name of personal ideology rooted in extreme liberalism?

We just had the tax break experiment and how did it work out. Trump claimed it was going to be used to give raises and create good jobs. Why hasn’t it happened? How many times is the populace going to fall for this crap of tax cuts as the answer to it all?

I was showing a lovely, four-bedroom colonial to a husband and wife one Saturday. They were in the kitchen with their son, who must have been about 10 years old. The son didn’t want to go outside, so he and the mother stayed inside while I showed the husband the backyard and garage. When I came back inside, she had made the son a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich. She said he was hungry and wanted lunch. She saw nothing wrong with it. The husband then asked if the son wanted a glass of milk. I quickly jumped in and said I’d be happy to buy them lunch, but for now we needed to clean up and put everything away. I made light of it because they were my clients and I didn’t want to offend them. But I made sure everything was nice and clean before we left—I cleaned the knife she used. They didn’t buy that house, and if I remember correctly they haven’t bought anything yet.
