From the Star Ledger:
N.J. election 2021: N.J. governor race still too close to call. Murphy, Ciattarelli waiting for all votes to be counted.
The bitter race for New Jersey governor didn’t end on Election Day.
In a shocker, the contest, once seen as a shoo-in for Gov. Phil Murphy, remained too close to call Wednesday. Results this morning show the Democratic governor and Republican challenger, Jack Ciattarelli, less than 1 percentage point apart, teetering on a razor thin margin in a race that surprised many and burst into the national spotlight.
NJ has Jack 65 votes ahead with 84% in.
I think Murphy still takes it.
Camden still only 78% in, Essex only 72% in, Hudson at 76% – all swinging HEAVY towards Murphy with lots of votes still coming. Most of the Republican strongholds in the 90s, and they just don’t have enough votes left to counter.
Wonder if it’s enough to wake Sleepy Joe up.
Sweeny won according to The Record.
Sweeney losing would be bigger news than Murphy losing.
Jack – 49.65%
Murph – 49.6%
97.51% districts reporting, about 1100 vote lead. Still thinks Murphy takes it.
A bit shocked that Vin Gopal looks to have lost. He was a big advocate for craft alcohol in the state senate.
Laughable how media ignoring NJ in this one. More home price gains ahead. People with $ pouring into state with ca$h to buy home$.
Camden still only 78% in, Essex only 72% in, Hudson at 76%…
It’s the democrat strategy; wait until other districts report and manufacture enough “newly found” mail-in votes to push the slug over the top. As a born and raised Hudson County native, the mantra was vote early and vote often.
Eddie,
If it is fraudulent, why were all the hard-core Murphy haters ready to concede in yesterday’s thread before the polls had even closed. Get over yourself!
Despite the early obituaries, the Republican party in NJ is still alive and kicking. Amazing that Murphy won Bergen County as every County office went to Republicans. Even Kugler under indictment for corruption was elected sheriff.
I would really like to see Jack win. Youngkin proves out my thought process on Biden/Harris. The Dems are going to RBG themselves right out of power in DC. The CRT attack narrative is politically brilliant for the right and the Dems, like a bad S&L narrative, have overplayed their race card.
If Biden/Harris do not remove themselves (can they even do that) for the sake of the party (and country), we may be looking at four more years of PT Barnum.
Lib, it’s pretty simple. If the dems and schools would stop injecting politics into the curriculum, this whole issue dies quickly.
Eddie is right, you cant continue to feign incompetence for so long, no one is really this incompetent and counting votes by machine doesn’t take so long, no one was submitting paper ballots this late. Local democrats go out and harvest votes. Given the election changes where a ballot needed to be requested if there is a high turnout in the urban centers the local dems are up to their old tricks.
The election isn’t about Jack or Democrats vs Republicans, Murphy is deeply unpopular he is essentially running against himself. Only the most left leaning democrats actually like him most swing voters are fed up.
Local democrats go out and harvest votes.
When your platform is Trump/Jan. 6th erect1on/xenophobe/h0mophobe/white suprmac1st over and over and over again, what else do you have? The Repubs are the party of the productive, working class; the dems are the party of needy, angry misfits.
Eddie and JCer,
Please explain how any Republican has ever won in NJ if it is all a fix. Yesterday you guys were all folding the tent before the polls closed. NJ was just too far gone and everyone was calling in irretrievably BLUE. You guys are shocked Republicans were even competitive. Now suddenly you are saying they were robbed.
Juice: No Roman invasion of Ireland, although there were trading activities. As for the Vikings they wreaked havoc there on an off for a couple of hundred years, and the. Just faded into the local population.
I am surprised how well Jack did in Bergen was not expecting it.
Murphy has done a hell of a job. I don’t know why you guys hate him so much.
This state is in much better shape since he took over. Why no one realizes this is beyond me.
Just admit you have a lot of angry white people in nj. Everyone calls this a blue state, but truth is, there are a ton of fast eddies in this state. Angry at the changing world praying trump politics can bring it back.
Get rid of team politics…you always end up with crap like this. People have become obsessed with their team winning, even if it hurts themselves. Anything for their team. Can’t tell me trump helped this country, he lit the fuse for massive division. Why do americans hate americans? Politics. The strategy is bs and puts citizen vs citizen.

Reality check – NJ has not reelected a Dem gov in 40 years. If Murphy wins, just shows how toxic the stop the steal candidates are. Youngkin disavowed Trump support and said he agreed with 2020 election results for Biden. Put up a sane candidate and you have a shot. I don’t agree with Lib on Orange clown in 2024. 2.5 years is a long time. Biden/Harris do look silly as Manchin essentially killing the party’s agenda singlehandedly. They don’t look united as many on left expected, coming off the most dysfunctional, divided, pass-nothing presidency of all time.
Nothing stolen, give me a break.
He did way better than expected, great.
That last wave of votes tallied could easily put Murphy over by tens of thousands of votes.
Meta universe…people buying land in it already. People going to get rich off made up land in a computer with made up computer currency. What planet am I on.
Life is changing fast…the world we lived in and grew up in is gone. We will soon feel totally out of touch in this new society being created right before our eyes. Hope I can survived the massive change coming, I am going to lose touch with these new generations of students quickly if change keeps coming this fast.
Bystander: I agree.
Laura Ingraham had a Muslim woman on last night reporting from Youngkin’s headquarters. She is a mom, a feminist and a liberal as she stated but she voted for Youngkin because of the CRT thing which, she proved is being taught in their schools because she held up a book from her kids class. She was so logical and so sweet that I wish there were more like her. She was very heartfelt and very sincere and spoke with honesty and passion. She was very charming as well.
Clearly it is because of turnout that any statewide race in NJ is competitive. You aren’t going to turn enough votes.
But the pass nothing comments are ignorant. Tough on China, secure borders, energy independence, trump had a platform. And voters appear to prefer it to the tear-it-down and replace it with Marxism agenda.
Much of the dysfunction, which I agree was prevalent, leads right back to Democrat perpetrated hoaxes.
By,
NoOne thought HRC would lose, yet somehow I knew she was going to lose. Manchin is not what is wrong with Biden/Harris. He has always been the most conservative of Democrats and has to be to continue to get elected in his state. He should be influencing the Dem party way more than the likes of AOC and Bernie. He’s kind of like the Dems Liz Cheney, trying to bring the party back towards the center.
Let’s face it. You can’t keep saying the populist’s sh1t stinks while ignoring the giant unflushed turd currently sitting in the bowl.
The hate for Trump and his platform was manufactured; the hate for O’Biden and the left1st agenda is genuine.
They had to roll over to the radicals to get Joe the cadaver elected. They had to bring in the Bernie wing or it would have been 2016 all over again. They are paying the price for that deal.
Fast,
Trump used hate to win. That was his strategy. Divide and conquer. America is more divided today than anytime since the 60s.
He was consistently throwing out wild things on twitter for years….multiple times a day. You see nothing wrong with it because he was saying what you wanted to hear, but what about the people that didn’t like what he was saying on a regular basis? Perspective. Put yourself in their shoes. Would you like trump?
Goat,
Exactly. This is why I felt Biden was the 2nd worst candidate of the 20. Behind Williamson(?).
Enjoy the victory. The pendulum is swinging back.
For those of you who sport man buns, your day has finally come.

Lib,
I know this is covered ground. We all agree, she was not a great candidate but she also under absolute unfettered 4 year political assault by R Senate with manufactured Benghazi BS right up until election. The Comey-approved late smear certainly hurt her. Trump has been hiding from his involvement in Capitol Riots. He won’t be able to walk int0 2024 clean. There is a sh&t load of damaging stuff to sift through if he comes back on stage. You are talking about crazy lunatic level conspiracy. Sure, the dolts will embrace him but coming back as 78 year national candidate when 81m votes against him…good luck. China deal was non-sense that we paid 50B in bailouts to farm corps and China won’t meet agreements at all, completely toothless political stunt. Dow 36K for dems – again he looks foolish acting like his great economy had anything going but printing money and low rates as it was under Obama. Border wall – a joke that only true moron could see as a Trump solution. There is nothing there but hubris.
And if you haven’t heard.
Vaccine appointments are available at a lot of the normal county vax sites.

I was driving to work the other day, felt like being in the Indy 500. Had all of the elements. It was then I realized the crashes, the speeding cars, the road rage, granny slamming on her brakes with 30 car lengths in front-it’s like Carlin says- its all just a form of entertainment and even though just driving may end up in my own death I actually enjoyed the ride. Nothing better than watching everyone’s individual personality come out expressed in the vehicle they own and how they drive such vehicle.
You could probably judge someone’s personality by the car they drive and how they drive it than by using a psychologist on a couch.
Pumps: The left is engaging in hatred as well. People are tired of hearing how awful this country is . It’s got problems of course what country does not. Left and Right both engage in hatred and people of good Will are tired of it.

Montclair finally votes to have an elected school board. Crumbling (literally) schools, remote learning while other districts were in person and having the president of the mayor who is also the president of the NJEA appoint the entire board is finally enough to overcome the fear mongering that elections mean a rac*sts and charter school supporters will take over and disband the magnet system. I believe a few months ago it was even argued that something similar to “Lakewood” could happen here if the board were elected.
The League of Women Voters once again came out against people having the right to actually vote.

Lib – Not sure if they are up on all counties. As usual Joe D is on it. K-Mart is already decorated for the little kids.
Give that man another pension.
Well, at least if the Repubs get in it will be easier to arm ourselves for the upcoming revolution.
Manchin didn’t singlehandedly do anything. I assume in the “smoke filled rooms” of Congress, he was designated as the face of the negotiation. He could be put out as the obstructionist without having to bear the political cost. He was the perfect political profile to carry out the bidding of Pelosi, Shumer et al., but then could fade into the background. The last thing Shumer needed was to be a sitting duck for AOC to take his seat the way she did to Joe Crowley. Read between the lines.

My 9yo wants to get the shot, we’ll probably do it next Friday. We told her she could make the decision herself about if she would and when.
Read a fear mongering post on Facebook. Amazing how the herd animals went nuts over it.
A poster clamed a criminal opened her back gate. She “NEVER” forgets to close it (she is perfect) so it had to be a criminal. Her husband turned off the motion detection on the back door ring camera, she was angry at him, but hey, no evidence either.
The responses were beyond nutty. OMG, how horrifying, calling a locksmith today, call the police, have them patrol, it was “unsettling” (that one had me laugh the most cause that was the word used in the movie death to 2020).
She left her gate unlocked and has an entire neighborhood in fear and anxiety.
It’s time to have the water company switch from treating with fluoride to treating with valium.
chicagofinance,
You are creating a conspiracy theory about Democrats all being together and making Manchin a convenient fall guy? That thinking is as faulty as comparing a congressional district primary to a statewide primary.
Chifi,
Interesting theory. You might be right. That would align the pins of the lock perfectly..
Hearing that there are lots of mail-in votes outstanding in NJ.
Pretty much makes it a lock for Murph.
Why are we still waiting? It’s 10:15.
Correct 3b and Phoenix.
The only that might save the Dems in 2024 (and yes it’s early and things could change) would be the unified hatred for Trump on the left. If Republicans ran a non-Trump sympathiser, they would win. Unfortunately, that’s about as likely as Biden stepping down.
It’s actually kind of interesting. The Trump tweeting, teasing, bullying and baiting are all intentionally divisive rhetoric used to rile up his base of devoted supporters. Many of his policies, especially foreign, were actually okay. So much so that Biden has adopted a number of them. On the flip side, it’s the domestic gender, race and immigration policy, and not the foreign policy on the left that is causing division.
If say a politician came along that had Trump’s foreign policy, and a more nuanced take on Biden’s domestic policy (for instance, if the infrastructure bill actually went to improving infrastructure and didn’t make the gender/race crap front and center). I think they might do very well if they could get their point across.
Phoenix,
my neighbors called the police because a drone once flew over their house.
I took my kids for their physicals yesterday. No issues thankfully. They recieved the nasal spray flu a Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine, no needle no problem etc.
The practice is all women doctors. The head doctor told me they won’t be giving out the Covid vaccine anytime soon, even with it now approved. The White House has been saying they will start shipping the kids version to offices of pediatricians and family doctors as well as the other vaccine providers starting next week about 15 million Pfizer doses that are in cold storage. I gather that plan is not going to go off too well. The doses can only be stored in regular refrigeration for about a month, we shall see.
Chi,
You could be right but then Manchin is the finest soldier that Pelosi Schumer (if their intent was to provide no help for working families) He has no problem voicing his opposition to the bill, even slamming down national 4 even week PTO for maternity. Geez, that should be a slam dunk for Ds given the rest of world gets 19. Seems like corp interests win again.
It’s going to be a few days… mail in ballots then Provisionals and a possible recount etc, unless Jack concedes.
Grim Why do you assume mail in votes equal Murphy.
Was under the impression that NJ’s mail-in votes in the recent presidential election skewed largely democratic.
Hearing that there are lots of mail-in votes outstanding in NJ.
Ask oneself why the left is so against voter ID? Why in this age when a cell phone, credit card and a photo ID is required to practically breathe are we writing on paper and sending it someplace, hoping it reaches it’s destination and is logged correctly?
Eddie,
Had a priest ask me for photo ID for an Annulment from the Catholic Church.
Told him to go eff himself.
And Murphy takes the lead..
re: Why are we still waiting? The election workers need their sleep..
Gotta love this reporting.
Camden, Passaic, Union, Essex, Mercer, did not finish counting last night, with Passaic the worst at 56% around 1 AM.
1) Union county stopped counting at 11:23 PM last night
2) not all counties have included early voting results in the vote tallies (There are approx. 200,00 early votes)
3) Provisional ballots counted last (At best a thousand maybe?)

Is there any money in it for your private physician to give the vaccine when you can go anywhere and get it for free?
No money, no work.
Must be hard to back the men in blue-then realize that the guy they want in is the candidate you have massive pure hatred for.
I’m surprised some don’t even have seizures in the voting booth making that final decision when pulling the lever.
Phoenix – Yes all shots are reimbursed by heath insurance and then the feds. Untold Billions for tests, exams, shots etc. Some enterprising Health Care providers were billing thousands. I hear they tried cracking down on that…but only after the NY Times story came out Lennox Hill Hospital in NYC was billing $3,000 for the routine covid test.
By: I am not into politics, but I know plenty about negotiation. At the end of the day, there is no moral authority in DC on any side. They are all politicians. The Dems know that 11/2022 is going to be a bloodletting. They are trying to stem the potential damage. Yesterday was a warning shot to them, and they knew it was coming. That said, Schumer has spent far too long ascending to his position of power to get submarined by a bunch of irreverent upstarts and a politically weak President. He knows he is old and in trouble. There is no question that Schumer could easily lose a democratic primary to AOC in seven or eight months. At the same time, Pelosi and Schumer know that they do not have the public mandate to do the progressive’s bidding. If they jam this down people’s throats right now, the damage could last years.
However, in the simplest terms. Schumer is a selfish bastard (as every one of them are). He is not going to die on this Hill…… pun intended.

Yup, but Trump just took it to a whole other level. Guy couldn’t shut up. I supported him at one point, but he was just too much for me when he energized the BLM movement.
Look, I don’t want to hate my fellow Americans. I want to work together to make this the best society this planet has ever seen. Too bad, we have a bunch of babies who keep giving these divisive politicians power. MY TEAM IS THE BEST! This makes america great! Back and forth, over and over again, it’s tiring and pointless.
We are all americans, go do what you want as long as it is respectful of your fellow citizens. Turn the hateful energy into positive energy to improve yourself….if everyone does this, america will be great and unstoppable. So let’s stop pointing the finger, trying to control people’s every move, and instead use this energy towards self improvement (that is respectful of others) and watch how great America can become. Stop looking towards politicians and expecting them to make america great again with divisive rhetoric.
For example, don’t force anyone to get a vaccine. If they are respectful of their neighbors, and truly want to get past this pandemic, they will get the vaccine.
Have a strong police force to enforce the law, but make sure they are not abusing it. Again, if a cop is respectful of their neighbor, they won’t be doing shady sh!t.
Throw people in prison that are not respectful of their neighbors. You rob or steal, see you later. Create a society that rewards people that are respectful of their fellow americans and one that punishes individuals for not being respectful (maybe give them a choice; jail for life, or leave the country)
I’m just thinking off the top of my head, but it’s time we stop the division. It’s time we stop punishing respectful individuals by continuously letting disrespectful individuals get away with crime and ruining this society for the good individuals.
Just imagine a candidate that ran on this. That didn’t attack the other candidates and instead focused on selling the idea of self-improvement to make America great again. The country is only as strong as the individuals who make up said society. We need someone to motivate our citizens to be the best they can be, and at the same time unite them to realize we are all on the same team.

It’s not the police, it’s the justice system.
1. A former New York City police officer accused of orchestrating a botched murder-for-hire plot — in which she asked her boyfriend to hire a hit man to kill his teenage daughter and the officer’s estranged husband — was sentenced on Friday to four years in prison.
2.
Pa. man faced 7 years in prison over 43-cent theft of Mountain Dew.
3. In sentencing Sander, the judge said even if he had been convicted of a molestation charge, as a first-time offender, he would not have gone to jail.
“You more than likely would have been put on probation and never served a day in prison,” Shirley said. “By your acts, you destroyed not only the Mazzella family but you destroyed your own kids’ lives. Your acts were selfish and they were cowardly.”
4. Woman who killed fiance by deflating his kayak sentenced to four years in prison.
Same woman: An Upstate New York woman dubbed the “kayak killer” will receive some of her dead fiance’s life insurance, according to multiple reports.
It’s really time the good individuals in this country come out of their shell and demand an end to the bad. Get rid of all the negative energy. Put an end to corruption by doing what it is right. Train these kids from a young age that it is not okay to be disrespectful or corrupt, that we will not tolerate it as a society. The consequences for such behavior is jail for life or leave the country. So think before doing the wrong thing.
There is no justice in America’s justice system.
Pumps,
With you and your wife sitting on fat stacks of course there is no reason to be negative.
You have lived an easy life. Maybe one day that will be turned upside down on you.
Then we will see…
Phoenix,
We just have to keep it simple. Demand that as a society we reward the good and punish the bad. I don’t know how a lot of these people sleep at night, but enough is enough. We need to stop turning a blind eye to negative disrespectful behavior. That only rewards the bad at the expense of the good in said society.
I have a comment awaiting moderation.
Hudson, Essex and Camden county have a LONG history of election fraud. The way republicans have won in the past is voter apathy, so low turnout particularly in the cities with high suburban turn out. Trump really hurts the Republicans in NJ he is despised by independents and republicans alike. Honestly Jack wasn’t a great candidate but without the Trump association this race is so close he might have won, I literally have had people tell me that they can’t stand Murphy but wouldn’t vote for Jack because he was a Trumper. If mail-ins are left in any significant number means 4 more years of Murphy.
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers tests positive for COVID-19
My comment that got killed by the filter was a list of Bergen County town council seats wherein incumbent Dems got voted out in favor of new R’s. Obviously, shockwaves at teh County-level, but that also translated down ballot.
In three towns, 2 incumbent D’s who were running got voted out. In 14 Bergen County towns, 1 incumbent D who was running got voted out.
I’d zoom in on Palisades Park. One incumbent D got voted out. Before yesterday, the whole town council was soild blue D. Lots of shopkeepers live in majority-Korean Palisades Park. Maybe they were mad about their shops being closed for three months while competitor Walmart and Target were open right down the street. Maybe they pushed the button for “R” in response.

I thought CC was great for the state. Maybe one day we can get someone else who is more interested in more than buying votes.
At the end of the day, Ciattarelli is going to lose a very winnable campaign. The candidate himself was ok – from the sporadic clips of him speaking I’ve seen, his messaging and delivery was good (better than Murphy). His campaign was weak, though, in that he didn’t hammer Murphy on certain points to certain constitutiencies (like, every Main street shop owner should have been sent mailers, phone calls, in-person visits, etc. which reminded ad nauseum the misguided covid lockdowns of main street while big retail was untouched) (every owner of rental property should have been targeted with the message that Murphy wanted your tenants to not pay 20 months of rent, to date, and laugh in your face about it).
I’ll say it again, Sweeney losing is far bigger news than Murphy losing.
Whatever rental money was lost they gained anyway by the massive increase in property value.
Jersey homes are like owning a gold mine, right??
I’ll say it again, Sweeney losing is far bigger news than Murphy losing.
Explain.
Sweeney controlled all legislation. If he didn’t like something, it could never see the light of day.
But Murphy almost losing is pretty big news in itself.
Listen, I want respectful cops, these losers need to go. Give the cops the power to uphold the good, but we need to get rid of the bullies that have no business being cops.
At the end of the day, we as as society have to stop turning a blind eye to the corruption at all levels of society. Of course, we will do nothing (myself included) and turn a blind eye….we have been taught that it’s better to look the other way then to uphold doing the right thing in our society. This has to change….how do we bring it about? I don’t know. The disrespectful corrupt individuals have too much power and the good people in this country (like myself) have no faith that we can do anything about it without hurting ourselves.

America is a land of individuals. It’s not a team sport here. They don’t want it. If that is what you want head off to Europe, you might have a better chance there.
Be prepared for civil war is the last message I will give you on this topic.
On Murphy’s side, I’d say he is not strong on messaging or delivery. Progressive Dem policies are very, very niche – no widespread support. He would have got blown out if Dem machine leaders didn’t point the voters to the polls.
What Murphy was to the godfathers of Dems in NJ was a walking checkbook. They ate his stupid money but he never had their hearts. He was always going to be gone to DC or his stupid Italian villa one day while the Dem politicos will be here for life.
Any Dem governor elected to his first term needs to walk into office and immediately twist the arms of JC, Newark, Elizabeth, Paterson, and New Brunswick to immediately change their zoning so that anything resembling a downtown is a developer free-for-all (Build as many apartments as you want, with no parking, and here’s some generous state, county, and local PILOT agreements AND the state is paying for urban transportation improvments). To this end, Hudson County added 40,000 housing units between 2010 and 2020 – if they added 100,000, then Murphy’s margin would have been unassaible; if they only added 20,000, then maybe Murphy would have actually gone down.
All states, including CA and NY that are blue states are only so because of the proportion of their urban to rural areas. Cut NY in half geographically and the western half is a red state. If a dem governor wants to assure his re-election, he can influence the demographics of the State – he needs more urban residents. Murphy didn’t do this, and he almost paid the price.
Sweeney . . .
If Sweeney went down, then yes that is bigger than Murphy going down.
There are three parties in this State: the republicans, the Murphy-North Jersey Dems, and the Norcross-Essex Dems.
Sweeney is Norcross’ puppet. He does not urinate without Norcross’ approval. If Sweeney went down, then the North Jersey Dems are stronger and the Republicans are stronger. The “D” label can mean three things in this state – Norcross is your boss, a North Jersey machine boss is your boss, or you are an independent.
Vin Gopal and Andrew Zwicker . . .
From interacting with them, I believe that as politicians go, they were actually genuine people. They respected that business and the economy is very important. They actually strived to better this state’s residents’ lives with sensible action. They were responsive to constitutients.
They are casualties of national Dems very bad strategy (sleepy Biden, gridlock, letting progessives hold up the infrastructure bill, the whacky racist anti-racist stuff, the border, etc). They are casualties of Phil Murphy’s delusional crusade against the business community of NJ in the name of the virus that kills 0.3% of people (usually our oldest), but lets 99.7% live and misguided and even delusional national ambitions of the man.
NJEA tried their hardest to get him out last election. Maybe it actually worked…just took a couple of years.
I seriously can’t believe he is finally gone….suck it, norcross.

I’ll say it again, Sweeney losing is far bigger news than Murphy losing.
Yup, it will never change without violence and who wants that.
“Be prepared for civil war is the last message I will give you on this topic.”
Don’t go this way.

I mostly agree with the below article re the shift in power in NJ. The part I disagree with is that the second term will be a good time for Murphy. I expect cold shoulders and sharp demands of him from the emboldened power brokers of NJ.
https://www.insidernj.com/murphy-irony-despite-closeness-victory-second-term-may-power-ever/
As of 10:30 AM the associated press has Murphy up by 7,195 votes. Essex county has 56 voting machines impounded, no results were reported for those machines and now a judge now has to weigh in….You can bet 75% of those votes those were for Murphy….
As far as the NJ Senate the Dems still control it, should now be 23 vs 17 seats. District 8 looks to have flipped..to the Republicans.
District 12 is too close to call but might flip too.
https://elections.ap.org/nj/results/2021-11-02/state/NJ/race/Z/raceid/31055
Distroct 14 is only 169 votes for the incumbent democrat, so who knows.
Let’s hope it’s not perhaps Codey or Weinberg take President or maybe somebody younger, they were supposed to vote for their caucus leadership tomorrow it has now been postponed but it still will be a Democrat leading the legislative agenda.
Vin was incredibly approachable, and while I only had limited interaction, felt entirely genuine.
Win or lose I fired Murphy this year and he’s no longer my governor. I’m impressed that NJ people almost kicked him out.
But what could a Republican governor have really accomplished? Was he really going to roll back taxes and regulations in a state dominated by government employees and unions and tit-suckling constituencies? It’s a beautiful dream but he’d have probably accomplished less than CC did.
Still, Murphy performed even worse than a corrupt molester of young girls. So he seems a bit of a lame duck from the start. Yet I thought Sweeny actually was the guy constraining some of his more leftist vision for the state. Net, I don’t know if Murphy ends up with even more power to do damage to NJ.
Not trying to be a prick, so don’t take it that way.
Serious question. Why do you hate workers? 99% of these people are regular individuals just trying to survive. Don’t you have enough money already? Do you really want to eliminate lower middle class jobs so you can put more money in your pocket? I don’t get it. Again, not coming from an attacking position, just trying to make sense of your position.
“Was he really going to roll back taxes and regulations in a state dominated by government employees and unions and tit-suckling constituencies? “
Murphy will bury himself under feel good, quality of life, progressive crap, much like De Blasio did with the same sh1tty result. This state is in trouble. Wall Street guys like to spend as a lame duck, he’s going to go mad.
I wish he would have spent more on a better dentist.

Question on pensions. How do they work? Is it like a 401K? Does the individual contribute pre-tax and the public sector matches up until a certain percent?
Pumpkin at 12:28 . . .
Public workers are paid from taxpayer pockets by force. Thus, taxpayers have an interest in how much is paid to public workers. Conversely, a private business that I have no ownership interest in can pay its workers whatever it wants and I do not care.
Now, imagine that your multi-family rental property has a property manager. The national average comp for a property manager is 10% or rent collected. However, imagine that NJ mandated that you pay that property manager guy 25% instead (so, high pay compared to national averages). Also, imagine that the property manager might do a good job or not, but either way you can’t fire him (low accountability). You cannot fire him (property manager has huge job stability) even if he leaves an apartment vacant for too long and he maintains the property poorly. In the final insult, there is a pension for the property manager which will be paid out of your pocket – it is huge and the government will decide when to take it from you. (the pensions). If you’d sell and move on, then you understand what thousands of NJ residents do each year when they sell their NJ home and move on.
Maybe if you think about it this way, you understand why public sector comp in NJ and other blue states is improper.
10% OF rent collected*
Eddie,
You retire, and the money flows like a faucet with a broken handle into your bank account. You don’t even have to think about it, it never stops until you take your last breath- but even then, it flows into your spouse’s account until his/her death. It allows you to live in a fancy house, drive a Lexus, and own a twin engine speedboat on your waterfront property.
It’s wonderful!
Or, maybe the final insult is actually that the property manager can only realistically get one of these overpaid, low-accountability jobs by being friends with a local superintendent or whatever.
Maybe not teacher in urban chaos school district. But, yes, for school district or police force in towns where people are normal.
No match. Worker contributes 5-8% of salary and if they work for 15-30 years, they get a larger and larger guaranteed income upon retirement age. Lot’s of crazy formulas. The formula used to be ludicrous. It was contribute 5% work 25 years and get 60% of average highest salaried three years (including overtime and any other stipends). Over time, the amount contributed went up, the years required to work has gone up, the age in which you can collect in full has gone up, the amount you collect has gone down and it’s pretty close to fair now. But the legacy costs from the outrageous early deals made with politicians in exchange for endorsements are still huge.
Admittedly, the teachers pension isn’t the problem. It’s just the one politicians ruin the most because you get the greatest bang for the buck since there are so many members. Now the police and fire workers? They’ve benefitted from Republican alliances and there is just not enough bang to make changes to their pensions. So they still have the incredibly lucrative plan. Look it up. It’s all public information and easy to search on the state website. The last I looked, and it’s been a long time since I checked, but cops could work like 20 years and get a 60% pension based on highest year worked. Of course, the chiefs allow the workers to game the system, so they all make 200-400K their last year busting their backsides working 80 hour weeks. Then their pensions, which should be like 60K to 80K become 160K or more. Worse yet, the government never raided their funds, so it’s still relatively whole.
But all this is moot compared to the health care for life for the worker, the partner and the kids until they are in their 30s for all of them. They used to not even pay for it and it was Cadillac level for all of them. I mean, no copays, no deductibles go to any doctor in or out of plan. It was the stuff of legends. Over the years, they made drastic changes. It’s still way better than what we pay for in the private sector, but it’s much more comparable in premium price now, though the level of coverage is much higher and cheaper. Sweeney did that. It’s why he’s about to lose.
At some point in the near future, this state collapses due to the inability of politicians to pay the massive number of state workers their oversized legacy benefits to the detriment of the hardworking newer members who don’t get enough to make it worthwhile for the most part.
Pensions are wonderful for those who have them when things go south.
Why else do you think Pumpy wants everyone to have the same priapism that he has.
Cause he thinks we all live like that.
Stock market collapses, my 401k is slashed in half. I can’t retire. I’ve contributed much more. Pensioners get their due, no matter what. No bailout for me. My job was not important enough.
I disagree on Sweeney. He got his school money back in 2019 and had been nearly invisible. He drew the line at the millionaire’s tax and it was increased. His influence is limited. It’s the north jersey progressives calling the shots.
One of my old neighborhood crew became a cop very young. Did his time, retired to Arizona, where he’s a police officer that’s also collecting a NJ pension. Did his 25 here, and he’s in his early 50s there. Life is good for him.
If I recall, his tenure in NJ made him an in-demand hire, so he didn’t start at the bottom.
Murphy destroyed the Norcross political machine….that’s for sure. Another accomplishment for Murphy.
“With nothing to fear from the paper tiger AOC /Bernie Sanders progressives, and with the political demise of George Norcross, Term Two in the Murphy administration can be a wonderful time in the lives of Phil and Tammy Murphy”
And all the firemen become building inspectors. They collect a 100K salary on top of their pensions and work a couple of hours a day.
“Only the most left leaning democrats actually like him most swing voters are fed up.”
And yet you re-elect him.
Seriously, the thought processes(?) of NJ residents really is dumbfounding…..
Brt has alluded to this many times, but for some reason, you guys don’t get it. The public education system actually holds down wages by reducing competition. You also can’t give big raises because of the Union.
So think of it like this. If we privatized education, the cost for teachers would dramatically go up. Look how much tutors get paid in the spirit of competition. Some are making a 100 an hour or more if they are good. Do you really think teachers would be making 50k if it was privatized?
At the end of the day, cost of living matters. That’s why cops and teachers make so much less in these other locations in the country. Can we agree that teachers should be a middle class profession? Well, in this high cost of living location, you need more than 50k….that’s poverty level in this state. So wake up, and smell the coffee. You are not being fair at all. You basically want teachers to work for sh!t so you can pocket more money, and on top of that, you want results when it comes to teaching your children. Can’t have it all…but that’s what you want.
Why don’t we start doing this with doctors and other professionals….demand they do it for significantly less so that we all can have more money in our pockets at their expense. That’s what you are doing to teachers in this post.

Not much — wouldn’t be able to address NJ’s long-term fiscal problems, wouldn’t be able to limit the power of public employee unions, etc… But as we saw with Christie, he could potentially accomplish some important things. Examples off the top of my head, Christie killed the financially disastrous Gateway Tunnel project (a Dem never would’ve done that and NJ tax payers would’ve been on the hook for billions), and he killed the patronage pit known as UNDNJ and gave a medical school back to Rutgers as they prepared to enter the Big 10 conference (who knows, may still be a patronage pit).
And in the private sector, how many individuals become consultants and make a killing after they are done with their career?
Life is not fair. Should athletes be getting paid millions per year? Should security for the rich and famous be getting paid what they do? Should we be paying social media influencers millions?
I just don’t understand why we turn an eye to Musk making billions, but beat up the guy making maybe 100k. It’s wild who we choose to tar and feather.

No. Not at all.
C’s campaign was totally incompetent. If he even raised the bar to just mailing in the check he would have won.
Someone here yesterday listed about eight points where M was vulnerable. There was absolutely no effort on C’s part to capitalize on any of them. He let serious accusations by M go completely unanswered.
The guy literally had one point – M says move out of the state if you don’t like taxes. And then his final night before the election pitch was word-for-word that no Dem has been elected back to back. WTF?
Despite that total incompetence this shadow of a guy is playing M and the Dem machine to a push. Fcuking astounding. Repubs ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Instead, in true Jersey incompetently comfortable form, they will dislocate their shoulders patting themselves on the back for coming in a close second. This concept, so prevalent among its residents, is why I dislike this State so much.
No hunger. No fire. No fight. No will to win.
Pumpkin . . . how much do Catholic school teachers make? 90% of a catholic school in NJ’s day-to-day is exactly like public school. The 10% that is different is (a) one of the eight courses taught each day is “religion”, (b) the kids go to mass once a week or once a month or so, (c) the troublemakers are expelled.
The lifestyle of a teacher in Oradell, whether teaching at Bergen Catholic or River Dell Public HS is very similar. The pay is not. The pay in the catholic school is private market. The pay in the public school is overpay reserved for friends and family of powerful people, at the expense of the common taxpayer.
And I don’t hate Musk….I support him. He actually is helping the planet. It’s just the idea that he can make a 1oo billion in a year is where I have to question the sanity and logic of our economic system. I want to reward hard work, but at what price.
I work hard, and I make less in a year than musk makes in a minute. I make less in a year than an athlete makes in one game. I make less in a year than a famous individual makes for one speech. Why beat me up?
You guys always claim that you can take all the money from the rich and give it to everyone else and it will make almost no difference. Well, you can take away the pay of every single teacher and it won’t do much in the grand scheme of things. They just don’t make that much money.
“You could probably judge someone’s personality by the car they drive and how they drive it than by using a psychologist on a couch.”

Don’t know what weird psychology it is….remove any one of the factors and it’s OK, put them all in the pot together and there’s some serious problems with those individuals….
I was waiting for this.
Understand that there are not a ton of catholic schools. Understand that they are able to survive on the goodwill of individuals. Individuals that have already had their career and are doing this out of the goodness of their heart. They are giving up their time to work for almost nothing because they need purpose in their life I guess. Point is, you will never ever be able to find enough teachers to work at this price if you privatize public education. So why use it as a comparison? Would you sign up for a career that tops out at 40-50k and requires a college education? Who would?

Just my opinion, but I don’t think Sweeney got voted out by angry teachers.
75% of his vote received was public workers and other friends of his political machine/
25% of his vote is quasi-true believers Dems.
Sweeney lost because angry normal people came out to tell the Dems “NO!” regarding Covid lockdons, vaccine mandates, CRT, sleepy biden, etc. I don’t think the NJEA is going to realistically take credit for this one.

The 40-50k is very enticing when it is coupled with job stability, low accountability, 2 months off per year, and a pension. Especially if the plan is for it to be part of a 2-income household. Especially if it means one spouse is out of work at 3 or so to pick up and take care of the kids, rather than 5 or so.
At some point, we are going to make it a law that Essex County has to do their election day on Nov 1st.
50k as a teacher doesn’t go far. Your health insurance, pension, and union contributions drop you down to the equivalent of a 35k a year worker. And these poor kids that enter the profession usually end up spending a thousand on materials for their own classroom. And to add insult to injury, while there are all kinds of tax breaks for every schmuck doing god knows what, the tax deduction for teachers spending their own money is a measly $250….way to support education… Both dems and reps should be ashamed of that buls****
Such a bad take, I shouldn’t even respond due to the disrespect. Just say you have no respect for education and be done with it.
Low accountability? WTF! Never mind administration trying to justify their job by being up your a$$ on a regular basis, but you also have parents holding you accountable. I don’t know what planet you live on. Just stop with the disrespect.

Yes. Low accountability. Think realistically about what would need to happen for you to be fired. It’s not in the same solar system as what would need to happen for a private sector employee to be fired.
It’s easy to tell someone else to work for 50k to help others save money, but why don’t they do it in their professions? Come on, lower your pay so prices can drop.
Teachers are supposed to just get paid sh!t and be happy. It’s a joke. Can’t believe this dude just said 50k is good in this state, really pissed me off. 2k a month on rent and you have almost nothing left to survive on. Go F/k yourself you selfish prick. “Chifi. Interesting theory. You might be right. That would align the pins of the lock perfectly.”
Very insightful. Certainly explains the deafening silence from those with podiums…minimal public pressure on Manchin from Biden, even though the former owns the bully pulpit. Nothing from Schumer.
For a very low political cost – VA – the Dems can kick the knees out from under the Progressives and bring the locus of power back to the middle without any head-on conflict with the Progressives.
Absolutely brilliant move if it went down that way….my only problem is that it assumes a level of chess that may very well be beyond some of the players lol.
They will make your life a living hell until you resign. Stop assuming and instead go get a teacher’s job and then tell me about low accountability.
Besides, if you are not doing your job, WTF are you doing? I don’t understand this mindset that teacher’s do nothing. Do you understand they are in the room with kids? How exactly do you do nothing with a bunch of kids in the room? Explain this to me.

Lib – I have a HS classmate who started working for our hometown police department in 1994 at age 21. He retired in 2019 with 25 years in for his police pension. Immediately started working as a code enforcement official in another town and then the next year became the borough administrator of another town in the county at age 47 while collecting his police pension. He’ll be making Joe D. money by the time he actually retires.
This kind of stuff should be outlawed. He’s obviously connected. This is not the norm for most.
One thing I will say, I would never want to be a cop. You give up a lot… once you go into that academy, you come out a different person. You truly give up who you are as a person. You are brainwashed and made into a walking d’ck on a power trip. Some people I guess live for that, but I would hate to waste my one life on becoming a walking d’k on a power trip. Also, most people will hate you and never trust you again.

1. There are a lot of voters registered “unaffiliated”. I sense they lean right.

When asked for their opinions on different car brands, it’s easy for people to speak up, especially when it’s about other drivers as everyone has an opinion. When asked “Do you think Subaru owners are likely to be fast or slow drivers?”, 40 percent (800 people) said, if they get behind a Subaru, they are likely to be a slow driver. They did not break it down by model, but we are guessing it’s Forester and Outback as some owners tend to be more conservative drivers.
The other interesting findings found 20 percent of respondents said they wouldn’t even date a Subaru driver. 32 percent said they dislike Subaru owners, and a whopping 75 percent agreed that Subaru owners are bad drivers.

I didn’t say “$50k is good.” I said $50k is market. This market reality is shown by what catholic school teachers make, doing essentially the same job as public school teachers except without a pension waiting for them.
On “doing nothing” – teachers absolutely do put in work. My point is whether or not a teacher tries 10% harder or not and some idea “clicks” for a kid or not will not realistically mean a nj teacher gets fired. In sales, for example, there are quantitative metrics so people get fired even in good times if they can’t make it “click” inside enough people’s heads. In bad times, even good performers can be laid off.
Also on “doing nothing” – it is absolutely true that the per dollar bigger tax waster are the “project managers” in the county board of whatever, making $100K+ and producing absolutely nothing. It’s just that there are 10-50 teachers for every one of those.

My spouse is a Catholic School teacher for over 20 years. There used to be a small pension plan where it works out to a few hundred dollars per month in retirement, if it’s still there. lol. They switched years ago to a 401K and I think they don’t match anything. It’s amazing… her salary is under 50K and these kids come back to see her years later, degreed and in the working world. All of this is code for securing the pig trough for the swine, grunters and guzzlers on the left. Democrat politicians are like precious metal salespeople, convincing the leftwing rabble that your investment will reap benefits as they tally up their commissions at the expense of the productive class. Spousal coverage is one of the largest perks for these workers. I know doctors that have married state workers-saves the practice thousands each year. I’m sure lawyers and plenty of others who can afford insurance do this as well.
Plenty of owners of construction companies, landscapers, etc are married to people with this Cadillac insurance, it allows you to be free to do what you want in your business.
If healthcare became a right-I think you would see massive shifts in employment as people would quit doing what they HAVE to do and get into something that they WANT to do. People might travel less to jobs that they need vs something closer to home that pays well without insurance.

Read my previous post on this that I posted earlier. For example, why would I go be a catholic school teacher when I can easily make that 40-50k just tutoring? Those people working in catholic schools are doing it as an act of good faith. They made their money already, or they have spouse that is loaded. They are not normal individuals trying to survive.

Sounds like a decent rate. Lowest I found for 4 hours is around $17 and that’s pretty rare. You done well.
Well, you see. A ton of teachers going above and beyond each day are ripped off by the taxpayers in this state. They receive zero extra compensation for being highly effective.
Also, it’s almost impossible to determine how a teacher is effective as so much is dependent on the type of student you have. Imagine trying to teach someone that literally fights you each and everyday for trying to help them learn. Fun stuff.
“On “doing nothing” – teachers absolutely do put in work. My point is whether or not a teacher tries 10% harder or not and some idea “clicks” for a kid or not will not realistically mean a nj teacher gets fired. In sales, for example, there are quantitative metrics so people get fired even in good times if they can’t make it “click” inside enough people’s heads. In bad times, even good performers can be laid off.”
Teaching can be an extremely gratifying job. The value of praise from parents is great for the psyche. So is the feeling of helping shape the future. NOONE goes into teaching for the money.
If you want to be motivated by money, then you went down the wrong path.
I’ve always said, teachers should be paid more but have private sector benefits.
Pumps,
What you find-and I really realized too late in life, is that no matter what professional you hire, lawyer, teacher, nurse, doctor, etc- is that they have their own motives for doing whatever product that you will end up with.
I had a lawyer that didn’t tell me he was planning his retirement during my divorce. Lazy old goat doing the minimum to get the job done.
You want someone who does things right because it’s the right thing to do, not because you are paying them more than the next guy. But unfortunately that does happen.
Things aren’t as straightforward as they should be.
I put my time in as a teacher. It is a tough job. Money is OK and ironically after all of the things that I did that could have led to ‘riches’ — i.e. two tech IPOs…it is ‘teaching’ that will actually help to pay my bills in old age. Private sector work is an absolute crap shoot. Though some jobs offer a tremendous upside, teaching offers “security” which in some job markets in priceless. NJ public school teachers have it really good. I left a lot of money on the table when I left my tenured job early.
A cop I could get behind:

Absolutely. and that’s why no one is going into teaching anymore. They realize it’s a F U Pay Me world and are avoiding this profession like the plague.
If any of you have the credentials to teach, you can go into any urban school in nj and immediately get a job. So many vacancies that they can’t fill.
Just understand that you will not get praised or even get a thank you when working in the ghetto. So throw that out the window. It’s also a struggle to see any kind of rewarding growth in your students as most truly don’t give a f’k. You see the growth here and there, but it’s not a normal occurrence that will help to feed your ego and keep you motivated.

Teachers are also the scapegoats for anything that occurs in their classroom.
Most adults I know also get really tired of being around kids all day.
One can dream. It’s honestly hard to find someone that does the correct job even with over compensation these days. So many people just don’t understand that when you do a job, you should do it correctly…but half-a$$ is the name of the game for a good amount of people out there.
You think cars tell a story? How about the house someone lives in? I’m not talking about the size, but the condition of said house. So many lazy f’ks out there that let their house go to sh!t. It’s like my tenants, they are dirty as hell and ruin everything. Will never ever make it nice again. It’s a waste of time as they will destroy it.
My house; I take care of everything. Wash all the wood floors once a week. I cut my lawn every 3-4 days. My tenants prob have washed their floors zero times since moving in. Just lazy.

Re: C’s campaign, if he literally just did the same video as the guy who spent $153 to unseat Sweeney and played it on a continuous loop he would have beaten M by a couple percentage points.
Pumps: Serious question, what teacher can make 40 to 50k tutoring history?
BRT: how much is teacher union dues a year?
Edward Durr ends Sweeney’s political career . . .
The Durr ad is linked below. So low-tech, yet so effective.

If the current vote tally holds, three incumbent D Passaic County Commissioners were voted out yesterday for R’s.
Before yesterday, all D’s on the Passaic County Commisioner Board (used to be called Freeholders).
AP is calling it for Murphy..a bit too soon in my opinion they have yet to tally those 56 voting machines they found in the cemetery. It will be a landslide by the time they do.
“If the current vote tally holds, three incumbent D Passaic County Commissioners were voted out yesterday for R’s.”
C’s loss is starting to look like the outlier….Nassau County also apparently flipped D to R
There are a ton of students at the elementary level that need help. It’s good money, but I’m past that phase of my life. I have to take care of my own 8 year old who needs me. Plus, I don’t want burn myself out by constantly teaching kids. You need a mental break from it or it will lead to health issues.
Did all the extra jobs for the first 13 years of my career. No summer’s off. So it’s been sweet to finally have the summer off the past 3 years. I was burning myself out.
This is wild. Def written by a political junkie.
“A source mulled over the prospect of Sweeney and Governor Phil Murphy, long antagonistic toward each other, finishing each other off and lying on the same funeral pyre of the Democratic Party of the 2021 election cycle.
“If that isn’t a Greek tragedy,” the source croaked.
But it appeared that in the House of Atreus last scene of this drama, Murphy would somehow emerge from the wreckage as a very wounded survivor, while Sweeney would perish – but dangerously hang around with a very clear sense of whom to blame.
The party was already fearing how Sweeney’s loss would rise with a vengeance against the governor, with all those fragile little pre-election deals made on both sides for the sake of self preservation suddenly activated and the hounds of hell pawing at the turf now on the other side, ready to get unleashed on Murphy and his minions.”

Maine had the best score of all 50 states for violent crime per capita. Massachusetts had the best score for property crime per capita. New Jersey had the best score for law enforcement officers per capita, and Ohio had the highest score for estimated public safety budget per law enforcement employee.
New Jersey separated itself from other leading states with a significantly higher score for law enforcement officers per capita.
So many in fact that they singlehandedly confirmed Murphy’s win!

Piece written by JD Vance – need to bring back production to US. How many mfg plants built in US past 10 yrs to bring foreign production back to US soil.
Net Net, no strong middle class in US = big problems economically & socially. Most people busy working w good job dont have much time or energy for nonsensical activities and they are less succeptible to manipulation.
PS, how do we handle Taiwan situation w China since we get lots of Rx from China including Penicillin which we have not made in US in decades.
A couple of years ago Insulet moved some of their insulin pump production back to the US. China still makes an abundance of medical devices.
