From InsiderNJ:
Governor Murphy Holds Roundtable Discussion on Modernizing New Jersey’s Antiquated Liquor Licensing Laws
Governor Phil Murphy today held a roundtable discussion where he met with stakeholders to gather input and learn from diverse perspectives for his new legislative proposal to reform and modernize New Jersey’s antiquated liquor license laws. At Clinton restaurant Pru Thai, Governor Murphy was joined by key stakeholders who voiced their support and recommendations for a new equitable, affordable framework that has the potential to generate massive economic opportunities for small businesses and communities statewide.
“Our current liquor license law is a relic of Prohibition New Jersey. We need a liquor license law for the Next New Jersey,” said Governor Murphy. “We need to face the simple reality that a liquor license is a game-changer. Current financial barriers prevent equitable access for small businesses and those in underserved communities while suppressing New Jersey’s economy. Our impending proposal will create an affordable, equitable path for the next generation of aspiring restauranteurs, brewers, distillers, and vintners, making them more competitive with small businesses in neighboring states while transforming our economies and our downtowns. Equally important, it will establish a tax credit to support existing license holders and it will maintain local control over the licensing process so that communities have a say in the future of their town.”
…
“A liquor license for our restaurant would bring in extra revenue to support us during these challenging times in the devastating aftermath of COVID,” said Korn Wongsarochana, owner of Pru Thai restaurant. “Not only would it make life easier for our customers who want to enjoy drinks to complement their meal, it would also give other small family-owned restaurants the chance to obtain a license which, up until now, has been impossible.”
“Governor Murphy’s proposal is a game changer for small restaurant owners like myself, who may finally be able to realize our dreams of owning, not just a successful restaurant, but one that is sustainable for the long-term,” said Ehren Ryan, owner of Common Lot restaurant. “This modernization of our liquor license laws will help to build an industry that supports all existing hospitality establishments and most importantly, will inspire the next generation of New Jersey-born and -bred chefs and restaurateurs who want to establish and pursue their careers in this state.”
“As license holders, my family and I know how expensive liquor licenses can be and the obstacle it creates for people like us who want to open a restaurant” said Daniel Rios, Co-Owner of Sabor y Arte Restaurant, member of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. “We believe liquor license reform will help successful businesses like ours expand into new areas and markets.”
Huge huge huge for NJ downtown/commercial real estate, as well as NJ small business.
1st not grim
All for it but how would they compensate the current holders if they can get it through?
Average license holder has made their money back dozens of times over already, why exactly do they need to be compensated even more? Some of these licenses have been held by family dynasties for decades. They had the incredible privilege of being able to own a monopoly, many having become incredibly wealthy as a result.
They are free to sell their licenses, they’ll likely still have considerable value. Perhaps they should consider that today?
A liquored up populace is more easily manipulated and controlled. Pour the nectar my friend, let us partake in gaiety and hilarity!
Smoked up maybe, but the liquored up ones tend to be the belligerents.
Good news for many for sure.
I do note, however, a liberal governor in a deep Blue State used ‘equitable’ three times and ‘underserved’ at least once in his announcement…so don’t be convinced that new licensure will be equally available to people who have demographics similar to many on this board…
At the very least have an MWBE cert in your back pocket…
Gotcha:

Inflation ouch
They had the incredible privilege of being able to own a monopoly, many having become incredibly wealthy as a result.
My grandparents license is still in the family in Teaneck. They made hundreds of thousands back when that was real money in the late 60s early 70s. It’s basically been closed since the mid 80s but my deadbeat uncle is holding onto it thinking he’s going to sell it for a million while he lives in my cousin’s basement.

Is inflation still ‘old news’ to the market?
Hey, does anyone know when that O’Biden Inflation Abduction Act kicks in?
“Fk yo indices ngga!”
50 bp increase is a done deal in March.
50 bp increase is a done deal in March.
Don’t know if that’s true but if it does happen, the market may put a gun in it’s mouth and pull the trigger.
I would say so ByS…as I said in my ‘predictions’ writeup in all aspects of life now we have instant info but more importantly instant and amplified reaction to instant info…making real money – hell staying sane – is going to require a new skillset of being able to look through that noise…
Having said that I re-iterate it’s a very confused market. I have reacted accordingly, sitting out an earnings trading season since I don’t know when, ‘boxing’ my main holdings (SPY and META) yielding unlimited upside to provide a guaranteed annual return today of 12% and 15% provided they don’t come off 33-50%, exiting my other main holding of GOOG as the last piece flattened out toward breakeven, hopping on some opportunistic shorts, and still holding a boatload of cash.
You should do you. These moves, and any in the future, are all over an additional 25bps or an additional 3-6 months of ‘higher, longer’.
Meaningless in the big picture, but amplified.
If you’re liquid know what you want to buy, and where you want to buy it…when it gets there look over your shoulder to assure yourself the factset on which you based your analysis (and your analysis) withstand any changed facts on the ground. Then hit the BTO key.
Fast: I believe it is a done deal, no way they can continue with 25bp after this morning’s number. After that we shall see.
“50 bp increase is a done deal in March.”
Lol, how many times are you going to whip your schlong out on the chopping block before there’s none left?
Spent a bunch of time recently listening to the Fed voting members on their process…very good interview recently with JPow with the former Carlysle head (Rubenstein I think) at one of the economic forums. Find it if you can. He goes through a very detailed description of the Fed process for raising rates from what information they have before hand to the exact timeline to the hour of their consensus making…bottom line, any ‘prediction’ like the above is pissing in the wind because they don’t even take the topic up until about a week or so beforehand.
Democrats are partying like it’s 1979! I wonder how much worse inflation and debt would be if Manchin just went along and pulled the lever on that massive grifter and money-laundering scheme the democrats wanted.
Left: I am viewing it from an optics stand point and market credibility. After this morning’s number I believe the Fed will go 50 bp to let the market know they are prepared to do what needs to be done, even in the event going forward they won’t need to continue that way. Convoluted explanation on my part , it’s Friday and I am tired long week. I could be wrong of course, and I did note they after March, we shall see.
I would point out as well I said over the last year, I said the Fed would do 75bp hikes, and they did, when some here said no way.

Dude, you were at 100/125 well before 75,,,consistently more hawkish than where the Fed landed…and, let me repeat, the Fed itself does not know what it is going to do and they don’t even begin discussing it until a week or so beforehand…if they don’t know how the fuck do you?
You are projecting….just because you and the rest of the market NEED TO KNOW NOW!!!…guess what, the guys making the decision don’t and aren’t…

Jane Yellin just on tv threatening China not to aid Russia in their war with Ukraine, wouldn’t you think Joe should be doing this? OOPS I forgot Joe is compromised, that is why he is so soft on China. You have to believe all the stolen high security documents are also in China’s vaults now too.
Joe has more important things to do , like tax the poop out of waiters and waitresses. Please stop putting these old guys in office America….for all our own good. Joe has always been dirty, that is why he was always rejected by the American people.
Well..rejected except on elections in 2008, 2012, 2020 and 2022. Who is your solution Jim. Remember that the Orange goon will be 78 in 2024? Nikki, Vivek?
Jim — Though I agree with you, age isn’t the only factor, as I’m not sure the 44 year old meatball is the answer either. The caliber of folks being brought forward needs to be significantly upped. We’ve gone from dynasties to recycling the ol’ cabinet.
We need nerds, lots of them. Maybe on spectrum. Ones that would not even know about LGBTQ or Jesus, completely awkward in press conf where reporters are ashamed to even ask questions. Rain man..read the numbers and make the tough, logical choice.
We NEED a centrist. There are so many shared positions between the two parties. All it would take is a moderately bright person from a major company who has stayed out of politics till now.
Run on term limits, minimizing government, cutting anti-commercial regulation, respecting individual rights, not accepting PAC or sPAC dollars, education, reducing crime and stopping drug use, etc.
And nerds on the spectrum.
Lib: I agree, but it won’t happen. Either gives us all that we want, (either side Dem/Rep), or we burn it all down.
No ‘normal’ accomplished person in their right mind would ever run for the Presidency…it used to be mothers would look at their young children and say ‘one day you could be President’ as a compliment and goal…now they say it in horror as in ‘OMFUG, one day you could be President, please no!’.
The arena is so toxic you’d have to be crazy…it is virtually assured your entire life will be ripped apart – start to finish, very publicly, every single aspect…finances, romance, employment, the shortcomings of even your most tangental relatives, what did you wear to a fraternity party 30 years ago FFS…Not to mention it flows to your family…NYT just had somewhat sadly an almost gleeful article on how Ivanka is DOA for virtually anything in NYC, socially, business…she’s 41, decades of vibrant life ahead of her…..who in their right mind would potentially subject their children to that…
I absolutely LOVE the idea of a Rain Man president…picture Dustin Hoffman’s character at the podium and some dumb-ass, obviously political baiting question comes from the press corps (doesn’t matter which side, they both do it) and DH’s President looks straight into the camera, pauses for full ten count of silence, and replies ’54’. Reporter entirely flummoxed looks and says ‘Sir…?’. He repeats 54. Total silence until another ‘Sir could could you please clarify?’.
Deadpan to the camera he responds overly earnest ‘the number of vowels in your question. Next.’.
LOL. I would pay prodigious amounts of money to see that.
Seriously though, regardless of your leaning, pick someone in the private sector you think would be ideal for the role. I have someone, proven business leader top of the food chain, right leaning but would definitely classify him centrist. Then run the decision matrix from his perspective, benefits v. risks/costs.
He’d have to be certifiable to put at risk what he’s accomplished over decades to even contemplate taking on the Presidency….
So until then, we will continue to get the ‘professional politician’ retreads and those outsiders insane enough (looking at you DJT) or stupid enough (hey, Marjorie, what’s up) to run for these offices…where’s joyce…the electorate in the end gets the politicians it deserves…..
“We NEED a centrist.”
But not a centrist POLITICIAN, because a centrist politician regardless of what they same in the primaries and the general would never, ever, never in our existence agree to…
“…term limits, minimizing government, cutting anti-commercial regulation, respecting individual rights, not accepting PAC or sPAC dollars…”
Ever.
Has to be an outsider.
what they *say* in the primaries….
can we pool some funds and buy an edit button lol.
I know. It would have to be someone so endearing, yet with a clean background. They would then have to hope to spawn others of like mind to run for the positions in congress. If Trump could spawn a bunch of Marjories (and there are quite a few of them now), then how difficult would it be to find some sane birds among the populace.
But you are correct. It’s a death wish and the end of normalcy for anyone interested.
“…how difficult would it be to find some sane birds among the populace [to run for elected office]…”
because….
“But you are correct. It’s a death wish and the end of normalcy for anyone interested.”
If you are sane you run the math and pass…if you’re not, well, you’re not….hello Mr President…!
A conundrum for sure.
How you doing today Lib?
Slow week for me. Just waiting for final shoe to fall on my Red tonight in hockey…how’s your boy doing…Cups are over, no? States must start soon, sorry too lazy to even google lol. You guys finalize a school?
“Nerds on the spectrum” Best handle name since “Then came meat.” Where’s clot when you need him? Or, this is my new band name. Brilliant, either way.
I’m plugging in my les Paul as soon as I get home. I’m writing a punk/metal tune called “Nerds on the Spectrum.”
OK, chi, the NJ real estate, politics, stock, and hockey report….
It’s bleak….
Bad news…even if we win tonight should any of Alaska (!), Notre Dame, or even Merrimack win they can leapfrog us…we could after we [should] beat Brown end up in 17th….And our current 15th, even if somehow we hold it, does not at all guarantee us ticket…
Worse news….lose and yeah we’ll need a conference championship to backdoor our way in…even with losses by the teams beneath us there may not be enough juice in the single remaining game against bottom dwelling Yale tomorrow to make up any deficits with a win tomorrow.
Good (?) news…Mich State season is finished so they can’t at least move ahead of us now…a Northeastern loss tonight and Red win should move us ahead of them, at least for a day…and the conference games count toward PCWs so there is a decent potential wildcard in our favor, although that very much brings M State back into play given the strength of opponents they’ll face in the Big10 conference games…..
Basically tonight you are also a fan of Mass, Mass-Lowell, and the Blue out of Ann Arbor…
Can’t believe these guys painted themselves into this corner….by way of two home games against weaker clubs no less….
“Ivanka is DOA for virtually anything in NYC”
Yet Tiffany and Chelsea have no issues. Nepotism Barbie dug her own social grave.
The only way I accept last weekend is that it gives them a kick in the ass and they use it as fuel for a serious run. Otherwise, they are frauds and need to live with their insolence. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve seen something that bad ever. The one caveat is that Clarkson and St. Nursery School are playing their best hockey now.

Don’t necessarily agree, I’m guessing any in-the-mail Met Gala and Rainforest Foundation invites will continue to be ‘lost’…
And, more importantly, your statement just proves my point….
Zero reason for either Ivanka/Jared or Hunter to be in the positions they are, and it is because their parent was President the klieg lights shined on them…
Fab.
Like Liz Cheney’s welcome back to WY? Sniffles for Ivanka. Daddy’s lap is warm.
chi, the only run they can do is win the conference, ie. beat Qpac and Harvard….ugh
I know, any team any day, they’re just college kids, Qpac and Harvard are locked so not as hungry….

Nikki would be a good choice, Trump hates her, she did a good job for him. Also was a good governor and did well @UN. I do know she is past her prime , Don Lemon said so.
Also I am an independent voter , so hopefully the Democrats can put a real person out there. Voted for Jimmy Carter( OOPS) , Bill Clinton( twice) , and Obama first time only. Bill Clinton did a great job with the economy, that is the type of person I would like to see again.

Hit the nail right on the head, Politicians today are only worried about themselves. I am sure when Pelosi leaves they will make insider trading illegal, if we did what she does we would be jailed. How does she get away with it??

Left,
The coach of my son’s team is a bonafide moron. You knew that already. He probably has the best offensive line in NJ public, but never plays them together. On the rare occasion they end up together, they score about every third shift. Nonetheless, the team is at least in the quarterfinals of the states and has managed to draw the team that knocked them out last year on a fluke overtime goal even though (Morris Knolls) were dominated throughout the third and and most of the overtime. Verona-Glen Ridge should pull this one out despite their moron in charge, but it will take a win in the semis to get to The Rock. My son plays 80% of the game. No lie. He is also one of only three kids on the team willing to throw a hit. They really lack size, but on the bright side, it keeps them out of the penalty box. Heck for three of the last five years, VGR was the least penalized team in their conference. Next game is Sunday I think. I’ll fill you in with the results when they come in.
As for the college scene, he is committed to studying psychology and most likely neuropsychology. It’s a great path for a male. He will be a unicorn in a female dominated industry, especially when it comes to working with children, which is his early desire. Of course, things can change. On the decision front, he is 7 for 7 and getting really nice financial packages to persuade him to attend. Though, the tougher schools decide later. So far he has been accepted to Rutgers (found out today so don’t know about aid yet), Colorado/Boulder (honors), U of F (don’t know of Aid yet), Providence (honors), Binghamton (honors), TCNJ (honors), and UMASS Amherst (honors I think). Still waiting on BU, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB and Pitt. I’m going to be negotiating like a mofo. We are very proud of the boy. It’s not easy to pull these grades as a year-round public school and club athlete with a nerd on the spectrum at home. We’ll hear from the rest of ’em in the next 15 days or so. BU and UCLA should be the toughest ones, though I doubt he’d go to BU.

Lib, good to hear about your son. Solid schools. Good luck rounding out the process.
Nothing I’m going to say you haven’t likely already researched but a couple thoughts you may find useful to keep in mind…fit is really important and can so often be overlooked as many more tangible items often get higher priority. Very hard to reach full potential in any aspect of life if fundamentally you are not comfortable with your basic situation. By example, could not think of two more different situations than UofF and Providence by nearly every measure. Presumably one type is going to more amenable to his personality. Worth keeping in mind….Also, other things being equal I’ve always favored the school where specific admission to the program in which you are interested is direct, be it honors, business, or other study area. While if not everything *ought* to work out once on campus there are many variables, some out of his control, and not having to qualify into a program after he is there is a benefit. Real bummer to pick a school based on its specific program and then not have it happen…..
You ought to be proud and he’ll do well. Solid kid. And rumor is his parents are pretty solid as well…..
On the hockey, good luck. Does the entire MK team still dye their hair yellow pre-playoffs? Really dislike that team…little skill, football players on skates. Years back totally unnecessarily and not even a good penalty one of their kids boarded one of our players elbow up in the back, fucked his disc up pretty badly. Mop them up…we did the following year, knocked those fuckers out in the first round, had them walking around campus with that asinine hair as a daily sign of shame lol.

The polluted water is being disposed by pumping it into deep injection wells. Texas already has a lot of those wells to dipose of oil field brine.
