College pays off in NJ: 7th highest median earnings for graduates
If you’re graduating from a New Jersey college, you might be in great shape.
According to a new study, the Garden State ranks in the top 10 of the highest median earnings.
The study, conducted by Teach Simple, uses data from the U.S. Department of Education to analyze institutions in each state based on the median earnings of individuals who began college 10 years ago to reveal the ranking. The study also looked at average annual cost that a student who receives federal financial aid will pay to cover expenses (e.g. tuition and living expenses) to attend a school, and the average graduation rate within eight years of entering the school.
New Jersey ranks seventh, with an average of each institution’s median earnings at $57,381. It also says the average annual cost of NJ schools is $15,473 and the graduation rate is about 50 percent.
The top five states are Massachusetts ($65,319), Rhode Island ($64,818), Connecticut ($64,720), Maryland ($60,286) and Washington, D.C. ($59,364). California came in at No. 6 ($58,675), with Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Illinois rounding out the top 10.
The five states with the lowest pay are New Mexico ($38,417), Mississippi ($39,235), Arkansas ($41,481), Kentucky ($42,000) and North Dakota ($43,000).

On the topic of ice cream, an old colleague of mine opened namesake Randy’s in Pompton Lakes.
He was part of the first wave of craft distillers in NJ, and did brands like Great Notch vodka and some others.
Should have just went there, his prices are far more reasonable, and everything is really hand made, like, by hand, by him. Small shop, family business.

We’ve talked about AI decimating back office and contact center work before.
Realize that for every customer service rep replaced by an AI bot, that’s one less salesforce or zendesk license that needs to be purchased. For every tech support bot, that’s one less ServiceNow license. For every less phone call, that’s one less NICE, Genesys, Amazon Connect, Cisco license.
Let’s look at Uber, or Lyft, or Grubhub, etc. That’s easily 30,000 people taking phone calls, doing chats. Easily 15,000 of them could be replaced by AI. That’s $18 million less in spend for CRM alone. Now add in telco, telephony, networking, data center, etc etc.
Lots of what we consider Technology, is NOT defensible. That’s 15k less computers, monitors, keyboards needed to run the business, that need to be replaced every 3 years, etc.
Scale this out.

My brother was talking to this guy. He said the most difficult thing when dealing with these younger workers….they can’t put in a 5 day work week. They consistently call out on a regular basis. Sick part, this is not just an American issue. My dad says the same thing is happening in Europe. No one wants to work. He said in Poland, everyone has gone lazy. He said the Ukrainians are now the majority of service workers in Poland.

Last week I was in a small antique store that’s closing. The 80 year old owner is liquidating most stuff because landlord is retiring and selling the building. The antique store owner is moving all the small items like jewelry and ephemera onto eBay and Etsy. She said she wouldn’t know what to do if she fully retired. And she was still buying jewelry collections when I was in there.
I did a few 16-hour stints loading trucks back in the day. In heavy construction, 10-hour days were the norm on top of a 90-minute ride each way. A 13 hour day, sometimes six days per week. The most I did in my white-collar tech career was 24 hours straight. Somewhere around 4:00 AM, it starts to get painful. Loading trucks keeps you going until you punch out at 7:00 AM after 16 hours and have to fight to stay awake on the drive home from Perth Amboy to Jersey City.

Technically, I could retire tomorrow but I see myself working indefinitely. I don’t know why, I just know. I’ve been getting up before sunrise for so many years I wouldn’t know what else to do. I’m not into two-week cruises and plane rides around the globe. I’d rather do weekend getaways and get back to my own bed. It’s just how a lot of us are wired.

Best part was the brokers brokers, always winning and dining, 200 dollar bottles of Opus wine, concert tickets, Xmas shows, Rockettes , sporting events, the list was endless. And the gifts from clients at holiday time were non- stop, UPS and Fed Ex deliveries from the end of November through the end of December, all sent to the house. Fun times! But, we worked our asses off from 7:30 to 5, and heavy stress as well. That’s also back in the day before the Fed turned into wussies.

The retired people I know who do well either have part time side hustles like teaching guitar or selling stuff online or antique stores, are daycare for the grandkids, or they have hobbies they are really into and spend 20+ hours a week on. Without some sort of structure I think your mind goes to mush and you wind up senile or hate watching the news until you go senile or keel over.

Retirement is something I may be able to speak to because I’ve taken a year and 1.5 years off before and you do tend to fall into some habits. It is a good time though to look after yourself. Naps are more common. Getting all of those pesky healthcare things done. Trying to exercise. Having a guitar hobby is great, but buying expensive new gear isn’t so get the expensive stuff while you are working and enjoy it once you have the time. Same for any hobby I suppose. Golf is another option for the retired. My back isn’t great these days so I am not a frequent golfer. Cycling is a great option.
Having time though doesn’t necessarily mean that you will actually use it. I live in a virtual year – round playground and don’t find myself doing all of the cool stuff that I could be doing. Selling things is great, getting rid of gear that y0u don’t use is one of my goals. I would like to teach again full time here in CA but the population if stagnate and the schools are spotty so I do sub occasionally.

The majority of my friends who have retired either work part time or help( volunteer) others. It seems when people turn 80 they then have to slow down. I still work and keep busy, my wife is worse getting up @5:30 and getting the grandkids off to school, then she starts her days , meeting friends, Dr. appts., food shopping, working out, and other various chores.
I am considering purchasing a 4,000 square foot building with 13 rental units, because I feel I need another project, my wife is dead set against it. I literally have to go to cardiologist and pass a stress test before I can go any further with the purchase. My main doctor picked up a abnormal EKG and now wife thinks I am in trouble, LOL

Two types go to poli sci….pragmatists using it mostly for law school, and those who intend to go into politics starting with the premise of Comparative Government 101…That is, your government is simply a laboratory for various social experiments dreamed up over time for implementation by them. Hit? Miss? Doesn’t matter.
I was the former. Maddow and other wackos are the latter.
The country in total would be far better off blowing up these departments. I studied next to these people for four years, they are frightening. They should be nowhere near any lever of power.

Hard to grow an economy when basic necessities and shelter take more of your paycheck than ever before. It’s only a matter of time before it crashes. Why? High rates and high housing costs are automatic triggers for a recession…it’s just a matter of when now.
Just remember, when a house doubles in price….that’s sucking capital away from other parts of the economy in a high rate environment. No one is going to refinance or take out an equity loan with high rates. So, it’s only a matter of when…
You want to create a recession…raise rates and double housing costs in a short amount of time. Not rocket science.

So did Trump know he was committing a crime? Like Crystal Mason who had her conviction over turned Trump has to resources to appeal. The ACLU and donations backed her, Trump has his bible money, and if he needs to he can tap his Son in Law for some of that Saudi Sovern Wealth Fund money.. I wonder if that investment is a 2/20 arrangement…that would be sweet….
Honestly I want him off the front page, and have for a long time. Back in 2015 when he announced he was running it was comical to me. But as we all should know a comedy can sometimes turn into a tragedy.

The Feds passed because Trump can’t “pardon” himself on State convictions.

LAX – You would be more honest if you said while Trump was president there was no attempt to prosecute him for 2016 election interference. You are claiming our current DOJ did not do the math here.
They did and they figured some simpler violation of laws around retaining printed documents would be easier (especially since the jury will never be show the documents), and just to be sure file the same charges in more than one jurisdiction.
Again if he was not such a giant a-hole it would have never happened.
