Tavistock in Camden County at $38,206.
Millburn in Essex County at $24,947.
Demarest in Bergen County at $23,475.
Tenafly in Bergen County at $23,031.

Nothing is black and white….. turning down the burner on the stove…..

Anything related to long-term borrowing/time value of money is reduce in value because future cash flows are worth less on a present value basis.

Puts pressure on all durable assets, stock markets, U.S. borrowing costs etc.

Puts more pressure on growth stocks (greater cash flows in the future) over value stocks (more even cash flows through the passage of time/short duration assets).

    Courses through everything……..
Plenty of other metrics, but to keep analysis focused, you may as well just keep looking at one metric over and over, day after day…… nice way to keep the temperature….. it captures the nature of the economy, current conditions, general environment. Not in itself, but rather the monitoring of the data series. Easy to do.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum poked fun at Donald Trump on Wednesday in response to his plan to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of America.’

Sheinbaum pointed to a map dating back to the 1600s which showed an early designation of North America with the name ‘Mexican America’ in giant letters.

‘Mexican America, that sounds nice…’ Sheinbaum said.

  19. Hak Tua, Chief grabs 'em by the pussy says:

I’m feeling great already. Maybe Trump meant Iceland and was fooled by the name?

Now what’s really mind boggling is imagining if Biden made such statements. That would be calling for the medical transport to the loony bin. Of course, MAGA can do no wrong. So why even bother reporting on it. For example, the amount of church that has influenced our government over the past eight years is undeniable. Yet our founding fathers distinctly knew the importance of not mixing the church and the state exemplified by the first amendment.

The First Amendment’s establishment clause states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”. This prevents the government from creating an official religion or favoring one religion over another. Favoring one religion over another. Yet the 10 commandments now hang in every public school in Louisianna.

Trum’s idea of Freedom is being told what to do by a dictator. But he sure talks a big game.

  20. LAX says:

President-elect Donald Trump’s team was given the questions asked by Fox News anchors at an Iowa town hall last January in advance by someone inside the network, according to a forthcoming book, in what would be a serious breach of journalism ethics.

The report, which Fox said it plans to investigate, comes from the forthcoming book “Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump’s Return to Power” by Alex Isenstadt, a national political reporter at Politico. Isenstadt conducted more than 300 interviews for the book and is based on internal memos, notes and recordings as well as regular reporting trips to Palm Beach and a flight with Trump aboard his plane in June 2023.

In two excerpts shared exclusively with CNN, Isenstadt describes a deep relationship between Trump and those within Fox News. Isenstadt reports that in January 2024, then-candidate Trump was set to hold a town hall with Iowa voters moderated by Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, though not all of Trump’s advisers wanted him to attend.

They “were still peeved at Fox, whose coverage they continued to find antagonistic, and did not want the former president to do the prime time event,” Isenstadt writes. “But Trump had a good relationship with Baier—they were golf buddies—and wanted to do a sit-down.”

Even if true, MAGA doesn’t care. Facts simply don’t matter. Such ignorance brought us the Nazis and their attrocities. This is why MAGA is so dangerous. They can do no wrong. Over half the country was duped. Sound familiar?

I hope some of you read the Times article I linked the other day about how great of a shape the country is currently in. But fear not. Trump will destroy it like every other enterprise he has touched before him. Remember, Trump is so successful that he pays no taxes. Just think about that. And people go gaga for this asshole. The 20th can’t come soon enough, Then the fun really starts. Then, we get to hear all of the excuses and lies for his broken promises. And MAGA will eat it up.

  23. Libturd says:

Hughes. You give him too much credit.

Anyone want to bet how many days into Trump’s first term before he starts browbeating Powell and the FED into lowering the interest rate. I am going with seven days. Anyone want to bet me? I have a pretty amazing track record, but MAGA can do no wrong.

    Chi,

You are looking at it from a logical standpoint.

What if what you are seeing are the effects of:
-an physically overweight unhealthy 78 y/o male under severe acute physical and psychological stress on top of chronic narcissistic anti-social personality disorder.
-these rants were present in first term but the adults in the room kept it in check.
-presently surrounded by subservient lackeys, his true mental state and actions show thru.

All of the above is a very fast summary of all the books written about him by first term staff. BTW. This type of behavior is seen commonly in unfettered dictatorships, just look at RocketMan. Expect more…. like I said before I’m usually pissing myself laughing by noontime with his antics.

  25. Hak Tua, Chief grabs 'em by the pussy says:

Want more to laugh at? Trump is politicisizing the LA wildfires. Who does this, especially in the middle of the crisis? But MAGA, the party of “mean” loves it. In other Trump idiocy. Trump wants to make a big splash on inauguration day by announcing confirmed nominees for his many cabinet and other appointed positions. But half of his nominees are taking too long to submit there paper work for the necessary background checks (remember Gaitz), so Trump wants to skip them. All the meanwhile, he is blaming the Dems for the delays. WHAT???

Again. MAGA can do no wrong.

Sadly, none of this is lies or exageration. This is what the country voted for. Enjoy the victory. For me, it’s like they revived Benny Hill and made him POTUS. Though, it’s only funny until it becomes dangerous.

Yeah, I know. TDS. The oft used excuses made by people too stupid to argue a point. Or perhaps, they don’t have a perch to stand on. Better to make believe MAGA can do no wrong.

  26. Fast Eddie says:

The definition of insanity: Convincing oneself day after day that they didn’t witness the demise of the democrat party before their very own eyes. Nor are they witnessing the disintegration of the loggy and knackered progressive movement dying a slow and painful death to the glee of patriots world wide. Who now to turn to for comfort and reassurance? Who now will tell them they belong, they are special, they have meaning even if deep down, they know they’ll always be a misfit muppet? Who now will toss them a bone when there’s no one left to suck? How did the media and there toadies lose their grip on the masses? When did this revolution start and how did it end so quickly?

Let us all know when China moves towards a more flexible exchange rate regime.
They are already facing depreciation pressures, lets see if they actually allow the Yuan to trade lower and make it market-driven.

My opinion is neither will anytime soon. There is a massive trade imbalance. TEMU anyone? Even my kids joke about TEMU quality. China’s manufacturing surplus basically doubled over the last four years so they are swimming in TEMU crap nobody wants.

Good of you to admit that el nino weather patterns, Santa Ana winds, and wildfires are a natural part of the southern California ecosystem. The perpetual lack of preparedness by the awful and incompetent Dems that run the place is criminal; LA’s destruction was avoidable but for Dem malfeasance.

  38. Fast Eddie says:

My father was a city firefighter for 30 years, almost lost his life in the line of duty twice. The 2nd time he got caught in an air shaft venting a warehouse roof. His foot was touching the back of his head. Three of his buddies pulled him out. At his retirement, the Hudson County Chief of Police read a poem he wrote about the incident. 400 people were in tears. The tolled the bell 4 times for each of the four men as a tribute of unending bravery and dedication. The mayor presented a plaque to each. I have a picture of my dad covered in ice that was on the front page of the newspaper, fighting a fire in single digit weather. You tend to get belted with water in that line of work.

  39. Fabius Maximus says:

Sent my kid on an errand today. All they had to do was come back up the parkway from the 130s up to 168. There were a few accidents on the parkway so the GPS pushed them over to the Turnpike. Few wrong turns and they are on the Goethals heading into SI. The way home was the Verrazano, the Brooklyn Battery, the RFK (WTF???), the Deegan, Cross Bronx, GWB and the Palisades.

Apart from all the tolls, as they took the Tunnel, I get hit with the new congestion charge as well.

Gary, this kid passed FF1 so they are never going to get to drive the truck.

Lesson learned, I need to let my kids learn their way around NYC sooner rather than later. The gain on all of this, is that they did it all through rush hour traffic.

  40. Fabius Maximus says:

So the only reason my kid was doing the errand was that my youngest was rear ended on the school bus yesterday. They are OK, but I had to take care of them today.
    https://dailyvoice.com/new-jersey/northernvalley/school-van-crashes-on-route-17-teen-student-among-3-injured/
My kid got off light (headache no concussion), but the driver and the aide are out of action for a few days with muscle spasms.

My mother always said that things like this always come in threes. Now I’m not big on superstitions, but I believe in Karma so there is something there. I’ll be looking over my shoulder for a few days.

  41. Fast Eddie says:

    Fabius,

    Lesson learned there for sure.

The kid will be better for it.

  42. Fabius Maximus says:

Trump Panama is an easy explanation. They accused him of Tax Evasion in December.
Greenland is a carry over from the first term. Someone, probably Elmo, reminded him about all the rare earth minerals and how China are buying up reserves. So he is looking to try and seem relevant.

  43. Fabius Maximus says:

Gary, what I have been holding off on is letting them drive the FDR. They could easily drive themselves to Grandmas, but that is Wacky Races with Dick Dasderdley in the Right hand lane (who gets that reference?). West side highway is slightly better.
If I had let them drive, they would have avoided Manhattan and just taken the BQE.

But proud of the kid, they adapted and made it through rush hour!

Also for me, I usually avoid the GWB and take 87 up to the Tappan Zee (Mario Cuomo) half the tolls and half the traffic.

My 13yo dog was diagnosed with advanced cancer and we will be saying goodbye to her tomorrow.

She’s a great dog and anyone who met her instantly felt connected. We’ll miss her.

The vet bill – for the various diagnostics and the two days in the hospital will be around $10K. The vet was super professional, explained the diagnosis at every step and took our approval and discussed costs before hand. Starting with the sonogram, x-rays, some procedures, cat-scan, etc. they discussed the details and options.

I can only wish for that kind of service to people. Regular doctors are not required to take approvals or discuss details with patients – instead they get their orders from Insurance companies.

It’s a sad day here.. and she is absolutely the best dog ever.

I remember driving over the Goethals Bridge accidentally once and getting lost turning around in SI once too. This was before GPS and cell phones. The traffic pattern at that toll booth on the Turnpike is confusing and there is no way to exit or turn around once you go left to SI instead of right at the toll booth when you are trying to get to RT 9 etc.. Badly designed for sure.

I visited Malibu in 94 after it had burned they lost a few hundred hillside homes, the beach area was spared but the hillsides well everything melted even cars.

Malibu just burned all the way to the Ocean this time. There is video of the beachfront homes all gone even the steel used to build the homes was melted and twisted, the lifeguard towers burned down too.

There is an argument that people should not live there, they say the chances of getting burned out now are once every eight years!!

You can see the twisted melted steel in this picture.

Fab, a student van crash is a recurring nightmare of mine. One only need look at the condition of those transit vehicles to realize a lot of the drivers are inexperienced. And then the aides. Forget about it. There’s nothing like having your kid’s welfare dependant on the lowest bidder.

As to the forest fires. They are like the houses that succumb to beach erosion. They don’t belong there in the first place. But the view! I witnessed many a canyon burn when I lived in Los Angeles 25 years ago. We used to play hockey up in La Cañada. The drive up the Foothill Freeway had about a 5 mile stretch of barren forest that had burned a year or two earlier. Nature meant for these areas to burn. Ever fly over Mexico? You will always see forest fires burning. The government doesn’t even put them out. You simply can’t prevent them any easier than you can keep the Atlantic from sucking in houses built to close to the break. But blame the Dems.

And Gary, I know the Dems have sucked and deserve the blame for the current demise. But MAGA is not an answer. MAGA is a nasty symptom/side effect.
