From the Star Ledger:
Where are the most expensive four-bedroom homes in N.J.?
Looking for the most expensive four-bedroom homes in New Jersey? They’re in Stone Harbor.
A survey by Madison-based Coldwell Banker Real Estate of more than 1,900 markets across the country found the average price of a four-bedroom, two-bath home in the Cape May County Shore town listed at $1.3 million. It was the sixth most-expensive location in the country, trailing five markets in California – Malibu, Newport Beach, Saratoga, Los Gatos and San Francisco.
California placed 13 in the top 25 spots for most expensive homes.
In New Jersey, other towns at the high end included Chatham Twp. ($813,000), Bernards Twp. ($758,000), Wyckoff ($757,000) and Ocean City ($745,000).
The most affordable four-bedroom homes in the Garden State are in Irvington, where the average listing price is $134,000, followed by Roselle ($144,360), Newark ($175,000), Paterson ($180,000) and Blackwood in Gloucester Twp. ($203,000).

Worlds first 3d printed metal gun
http://blog.solidconcepts.com/industry-highlights/worlds-first-3d-printed-metal-gun/
I am incredibly impressed that they “printed” the barrel.
Will be years before this technology can be leveraged for mainstream manufacturing, but let me tell you, it has huge positive implications for US manufacturing.
It probably has little implication for the firearms business, they picked a gun because of the controversy and millions of dollars in free advertising it would gain them. Yes, there is a technical consideration, and they nailed that out of the park, but it’s not really relevant.
I believe the AK47 cost less than $25 to produce when first introduced, which was one of the reasons for it’s widespread global popularity. This gun? Probably in the hundreds of thousands, and since the current technology probably can’t scale, at best in the high tens of thousands (for now).
Good to see they were smart enough to get a manufacturing license, otherwise they’d all be in jail.
I remember when I saw my first EDM machine in action, I was awestruck by this thing. It was cutting an impossibly thick steel plate, to extreme tolerances, using a wire that was probably less than the thickness of a hair. Every once in a while you’d catch a little bit of a spark, but that was it, wire and electrons beat steel, every time.
This is an interesting one, talk about not understanding the real implications of decisions. From CNBC:
Delaying Obamacare mandate may mean higher rates: Actuaries
Delaying the requirement for people to buy insurance under the Affordable Care Act could have negative consequences for the insurance market, including the prospect that insurers could collect less in premiums than they ultimately have to pay out in claims, resulting in higher rates. That’s the stark warning issued by the American Academy of Actuaries in a letter to Congress this week.
“We were aware of some legislative proposals,” said David Shea, vice president of the academy’s Health Practice Council, “and we just wanted to make some folks aware that there are some potential consequences to a delay.”
A growing number of lawmakers from both parties have called for delaying the Obamacare individual mandate penalties for those who don’t buy insurance, in the wake of the rocky rollout of HealthCare.gov. The technical troubles that have plagued the online insurance marketplace have made it difficult for Americans to sign up for insurance coverage.
Insurance analysts say that without the requirement to buy insurance, it’s more likely that mostly sicker people will enroll for coverage. It’s what’s known in the insurance industry as adverse selection. Insurers based their 2014 rates on the assumption of an individual mandate and a limited period for open enrollment. Without enough healthy people to offset the costs of patients who use a lot of medical services, that could mean premiums won’t be enough to cover their claims.
Extending the deadline for enrolling in coverage beyond next March could prove just as negative as delaying the individual mandate itself, said Shea.
“The further out you extend it, the greater the potential consequences,” he said.

Judging by how many got left in my apartments, I always thought they were disposable.
Clicked around healthcare.gov this morning and it appears to be humming along just fine now, I got about 20 minutes into the application process and cut out, but only because I got tired of entering data. Very speedy, responsive, and overall a pretty nice design. Based on how far I got with the application, seems like it would take the average person an hour or two to get through the whole thing, unless you completely skip the income component, which is what seemed like the most complex part to me.

10 – I’d still take a Kimber over that thing.
12 – Their methodology eliminated a number of markets due to volume, primarily because they focused on the price of a 4 bedroom/2 bath home, and not simply the median/average home price.
I also think it favored some markets, like Malibu, which is known for having large and expensive homes with relatively low bedroom counts (including some midcentury gems). Last time I was out there I was in a 7,500sq foot house that had 3 bedrooms. In NJ, it’d have 6 or 7, at least.
A two teacher household in NJ? You’d be a 1 percenter.
So the title of the article is incorrect and this is another example of bad and useless reporting. They probably didn’t find any 4 bed 2 bath homes in Short Hills because all those people can afford powder rooms, giving them 2.5 baths. Were you to find that mythical 4 bed 2 bath in Summit, where the guests must share a bathroom with the kids, I still say it would be more expensive than in New providence. Also, Rumson, spring lake, Princeton, Franklin lakes, mountain lake…

“The House and Senate are in the middle of ironing out the differences between their two separate versions of the farm bill, the $1 trillion piece of legislation that funds agriculture and nutrition programs. The House GOP is fighting to maintain the $40 billion in cuts its bill makes to the food stamp program—a move that would force 4 million low-income people off food aid—while claiming the moral high ground. And there are other hypocritical provisions in the House Republicans’ farm bill. Here are four:
1. The GOP wants to balance the budget, unless it means taking money from the rich.
2. House Republicans want to put people back to work…by slashing jobs programs.
3. Republicans want to make poor people more accountable, not rich farmers.
4. House GOPers quote the Bible, while giving states perverse incentives to boot people off food aid.

As well as they should have. He should have called 911, then locked his bedroom door and if intruders entered bedroom before cops got there shot them.
Instead he went hunting. Was his gun licensed, was he in immediate harm, did the intruder have weapons.
Some guy out in Long Island a few years ago opened front door and shot someone threatening to break into house and then shot the guy standing a few feet behind him who did not even speak for good measure.
The cops said call 9-11 and until he actually breaks in you should not shoot him. Heck how do you even know he was going to break in. How do you know if he has a weapon. The second guy he shot dead was on the sidewalk. His family sued the pants off him. What was he afraid he would run away. So shoot him. What about a warming shot.
I would just go all LL Cool J. He just cold cocked the burgler he ran into on the way to bathroom and called the cops who arrested him.

[20] anon,
Why should dems be the only hypocrites?
Its as simple as this: It’s a war and in warfare, if your enemy’s tactic is working, use it against him. Then beat him to the next level.
Part of me decries the partisan strife. But part of me recognizes we are in the first act of a low grade civil war. And as long as I have enemies, it’s my job to kill them (figuratively, and if necessary, literally) before they kill me. So as long as your side wants to take my side out, I’m gonna look to take you out first. It’s as simple as that.

You’re correct to a point. However what you also can’t do, by way of ‘non-compliance’, is purchase a plan that does not meet the Obama, MD, learned and considered minimum coverage requirements — like maternity coverage for your 70 year-old mother, among other ludicrousness. Its all or nothing from here on out.
Kate’s beauty mark switches sides and disappears throughout that slideshow. Obviously, her breasts aren’t real either. But I’d still vote for her over any Democrat that Anon pines for.
“like maternity coverage for your 70 year-old mother,”
Finally, I can get rid of my condoms!
Looks like it’s back to shaving with a cheese grater for me.
I always chuckle a little bit when I hear the arguments about “maternity care for seniors” or “women’s care for males” because I think that these arguments are not very well thought out. When talking about taxes for transportation or schools it is well established that even if you do not directly use these services you are indirectly benefiting from the service.
Case in point, you may not be a female but you were born from a female who received health care. Thus you must pay back into the system the cost of the resources that you used to be concieved into this world. You may no longer require maternity services because of old age but someone who birthed you into the system required maternity services and thus you are obligated to contribute to the system that formed you.
Too many takers and not enough providers. Get the small minded ideas out of your head and start thinking big picture.
I have a brother who seems to have this idea that no one gave him anything in this world and that he somehow pulled himself out of the womb, up from the gutter he was thrown in and hoised himself by his own bootstraps into prosperity. He is foolish and naieve by spitting on all those that helped him get where he is today. Raised with love and compassion, taught to stand on his own by college educated parents, given the genes and discipline to excell and sent on his way. All those years of support and protection do not come cheap.
Time to pay your share of caring for this country even if it includes paying for services that you need but do not directly use. Why would you leave paying for child birthing only to females in the ages of 16-45? Thats short-sighted and a poor way to plan for humanities future.
Nicholas is right.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
Wait, where have I heard that before?
But more importantly, the number of people not in the labor force exploded by nearly 1 million, or 932,000 to be exact, in just the month of October, to a record 91.5 million Americans! This was the third highest monthly increase in people falling out of the labor force in US history.

NEW YORK — Ally Financial, once one of the largest U.S. home lenders, has closed the book on the mortgage business that drove the company to the brink of collapse.
Ally no longer offers or services home loans and the pipeline of pending mortgages stands at zero, according to a presentation released Tuesday by the Detroit-based auto financer. The company has paid a settlement reached last month with U.S. regulators tied to its residential lending, and that’s the last of any significant costs, Jeff Brown, senior executive vice president for finance, told investors on a conference call.
Mortgages are in Ally’s “rearview mirror,” Chief Executive Officer Michael Carpenter said on the call, ending an almost 30-year foray that led to more than $10 billion in losses and a $17.2 billion U.S. bailout. Under his predecessors, brands such as GMAC Mortgage and online lender Ditech propelled the firm into the top ranks of subprime lenders in 2006, just as the housing bubble began to pop.
And now for something completely different!

This place (http://www.parknewark.com/ 86 Haynes Ave., Newark, NJ 07114) was the cheapest I could find; shuttle was relatively quick. Net price is like $8.50/day after taxes, airport concession fees, fuel surcharges, BS, etc.
Great. Now Ally can concentrate on its core business, shit auto loans.
