The Ascention of Bernanke Into the Clouds
Very good article on Bernanke and on inflation targeting for those who are interested in economic policy. Bernanke will most certainly play a central role in how the housing bubble will play out, however, I’m not so sure anyone knows whether that role will be positive or negative. Many of us have combed through his speeches looking for clues, but the truth of the matter is, we really don’t know what he’s going to do when he takes the Fed chair. I really hope everyone got a kick out of the image, hats off to the folks at the Ludwig von Misses Institute.

Regarding Helicopter Ben and his potential to print money when needed: the article by Thomas Donlan in Barron’s (Oct 24) “The Dollar’s Long Dive” offers an historical perspective.
The focus is on the loss of dollar purchasing power over the years since 1929. However, it reminds those who watch the RE market that some of the gain in housing values is simply a dollar decline. This “inflation hedge” angle for housing is part of the equation that has caused the pricing run up, along with easy money financing.
The Barron’s content is proprietary, and I can’t offer the full article via a link, but the text can be seen at this location:

Sorry I couldn’t post a live link.
The compelling evidence is actually a chart of dollar purchasing power over time. It’s printed on a log scale, and shows the loss of 93% of the dollar’s value since 1929.
ROFLMAO!!!!
a picture really is worth a thousand words.
