Condos may replace rides at Funtown Pier
BY JOE ZEDALISThe Borough Council will hear a proposal Wednesday from the owner of Funtown Pier about turning the 77-year-old amusement venue into condominiums.
Mayor Robert Matthies scheduled a special meeting of the council for 6:30 p.m. to hear the “very tentative” plans for the pier, which straddles the Seaside Park-Seaside Heights boundary.

“The general consensus is that Bill (Majors) has done everything possible to make it (the pier) successful,” D’Onofrio said. “It’s been a gallant attempt, but the fact that he is even considering selling is telling about how well he can be a viable competitor with other amusement venues.

Matthies estimated condominiums, which could sell for as much as $1.5 million and would be developed by Toll Bros., would add between $40 million and $60 million to the borough tax rolls and dramatically change the landscape of the 600-foot stretch of boardwalk businesses in Seaside Park.“There has been no application; this is an informational session only,” Matthies said. “The council has to listen to a proposal like this.”

More than 200 condominium units have already been approved in other locations in Seaside Heights.

Toll Brothers is a bizarre company. I was interested in one of their Hoboken properties. I had about 100K cash as a down payment and they wouldn’t give me the time of day either in person or with a return phone call. They deserve whatever they get as far as I’m concerned.
Really? I got a much different impression from the folks at Toll.
I stopped in the Scenic Hills Development out in Blairstown about 7 or 8 months ago. Everyone there was as nice as could be. I still receive at least a postcard or a call every month.
Of course, when I was in the area, homes in that development started at the $700k mark. They’ve since added a new lower priced model. I can only assume it is due to the fact that they can’t seem to sell the place out. I believe there were a total of 21 lots in total. The Toll site is displaying that it’s 50% sold out. That makes approximately 11 homes sold in over a years time.

uh, your headline is wrong. seaside heights is not asbury park. it isn’t even close to asbury park.
seaside heights boardwalk and amusement park is disgusting. it’s the land of misfit toys. i’d use the condo building as an excuse to revitalize the whole area. look at the new development they built up down in long branch with condos, shops, restaurants and a boardwalk. it’s clean and looks great. sure you still get the gumby’s down there but it’s overall a much better clientele.
Seaside Heights is like a
town on the Mexican boarder.
Its just about 3rd world.
Never saw so much trash.
Assbury Park– exactly the place I want to be when I visit the Jersey shore!

Two possible reasons for the difference in attitude. 1. Hoboken mentality. ‘Nuff said. 2. Did you tell them you have a real estate blog? Word of mouth goes a long way these days and any company who engages in marketing knows that.
No reason to bring it up. Especially if the only reason I’m stopping by is to be nosy and ask questions.

I remember a childhood Atlantic City. Trashy – but wonderful. Eating crabs on the boards, dumping quarters in Pin Ball.
