Shut Up Gen X

From the NY Times:

Generation X More Addicted to Social Media Than Millennials, Report Finds

We all know the stereotype: silly millennials, tethered to their phones, unable to accomplish the simplest tasks without scrolling their Instagram feeds, snapping their friends and/or tweeting inanely.

But a Nielsen report released last week shows that Americans from 18 to 34 are less obsessed with social media than some of their older peers are.

Adults 35 to 49 were found to spend an average of 6 hours 58 minutes a week on social media networks, compared with 6 hours 19 minutes for the younger group. More predictably, adults 50 and over spent significantly less time on the networks: an average of 4 hours 9 minutes a week.

Sean Casey, the president of Nielsen’s social division, said the finding initially surprised him because “the going thought is that social is vastly owned by the younger generation.”

“It’s kind of synonymous,” said Mr. Casey, who wrote the foreword to the report. “When you think of millennials, you think of social.”

Again, in this category, it was Generation X that could not look away from its devices: On an average day, the report found, 42 percent of those interacting with television on Facebook were from 35 to 49; only 40 percent were millennials.

MIW – great to hear from you! Yeah, things have changed alot around here since we’ve been overrun with Pumpkin Puke:

Grim used to be a happy renter, now he’s a cranky mortgagor.
Gary used to be a cranky house hunter, now he’s happy BC mudroom owner.
Nom went from owner to renter to owner again.
JJ went missing after Sandy, reappeared, then went missing again.
Clot is still clot but doesn’t show up much due to the aforementioned Pumpkinitis.

How is the market in the North and are your kids buying their own cars yet?

I don’t know if anybody caught the Trump interview during pre-game, but he called it for the Pats, 32-28, IIRC. That’s damn impressive. It looks like Trump might be right about global warming now too. Maybe there are 10 million illegals registered to vote in California?

This has to be the most butthurt genre of people in history — politicizing everything and losing badly too, almost on a continuous basis. The left went apoplectic last night after the New England Patriots rallied from behind and defeated the Atlanta Falcons, under the auspices of the best quarterback to ever live, who also happens to be one of Trump’s biggest supporters.

Life in America has been nothing but anguish and unimaginable misery since Trump defeated Clinton. Their inability to cope, coupled with their lack of forbearance, have led them down a path of seemingly unending public humiliation.

    Funny people.

Let’s gentrify by trying to keep all the poor in place, that might work. GOOD LUCK! The poor are exactly what is holding the area back. They think they can develop the city on the backs of the poor?

    Funny people.

“Carmelo Garcia, Newark’s chief real estate officer, said the city doesn’t want another Hoboken, Jersey City, or Brooklyn — a city where gentrification has pushed out locals. As the city develops, Garcia said, it is looking to attract higher-income residents — like New Yorkers, young professionals, and millennials — into the downtown. But he said city officials are committed to making sure the new apartment buildings being built in the downtown include a percentage of affordable units for low-income residents in Newark.

“I would love to move in one of those apartments downtown,” said Green, the South Ward resident. “The cost of rent is going to be so high, so I’m not sure.””

Saw a N1ke store opened recently in Newark as well as a Whole Foods. The transition from post riot wasteland to hipster magnet is well underway. Though those aren’t my type of places, the Dinosaur BBQ is certainly a fine addition that I frequent. So where can I buy flowers for my beard?

That NOAA story, no sign of it on Washington Post, New York Times, HuffPo, CNN or MSNBC. It does appear on FoxNews. Now how can this be?

  20. The Original NJ ExPat says:

Stu – That’s the first thing I checked this morning too. How many outlets were carrying the story. Only majors are Fox and the Washington Times( and the Daily Mail, of course).

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/feb/5/climate-change-whistleblower-alleges-noaa-manipula/

Meanwhile, the whistleblowing prompted a “we-told-you-so” moment from Republicans on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee who have long suspected the Obama administration of retroactively fiddling with climate data in order to erase the 1998-2013 pause in global temperature increases.
“Now that Dr. Bates has confirmed that there were heated disagreements within NOAA about the quality and transparency of the data before publication, we know why NOAA fought transparency and oversight at every turn,” said Chairman Lamar Smith in a Sunday statement.
The panel launched an investigation into the NOAA pausebuster report after whistleblowers said the study was “rushed to publication before underlying data issues were resolved to help influence public debate about the so-called Clean Power Plan and upcoming Paris climate conference.”

    1) Who cares? Given that illegal immigrants seem to overwhelmingly support the Democratic Party which eased their entry to the US and showers them with government benefits once they arrive, maybe California’s ~4.5 MM Republican voters who pay a heavy part of the financial and social burden and might like to use their legitimate franchise to influence a shift in government policy care. Why are leftists so Totalitarian? I’m getting tired of pretending that both sides in this debate want America to be a free country.

    2) “political career exiled to the desert” — Why do you assume that winning the state of California and however many electoral votes it carries is a Democratic birthright? It was less than 30 years ago that California voted Republican in a presidential election – twice before that for its own Republican former governor, and another three times (once in a losing effort) for its own Republican former Senator. In fact, before Clinton in 1992, California voted Republican 9 of the previous 10 presidential elections. Based on your implicit presumption, maybe there is something to the notion that Democratic immigration policy has succeeded in importing a new electorate to supplant the one that existed?

I see a tremendous opportunity for Trump to triangulate on the Democrats in this immigration debacle.

Tell states and the courts that they will revise the order to allow vetted refugees to come into certain states but that the refugees must be sponsored, that they cannot leave the sponsor’s jurisdiction, and that the sponsor is fully responsible for the refugee.

Sponsors can be nonprofits, charities, municipalities or even employers. Most Americans will see this as a reasonable compromise–these people are getting safety and the American public is sheltered from them, financially and physically. And if the sponsors balk at the risk, they are reminded that it was they who said there was no risk.
