Jobs Day!

From CNN:

What to expect from the final jobs report for 2024

In 2024, job growth continued to cool off, settling back into a familiar gait that was roughly in line with the pace of job creation in 2010-2019.

Through November, the US economy added about 180,000 jobs per month. The unemployment rate bumped higher but stayed near historic lows.

Those headline measures helped lend some reassurance that the resilient and growing US economy is slowly heading toward that elusive “soft landing” of reining in inflation without cratering into a recession.

How that likely shaped up through December should become a lot clearer on Friday when the Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the final jobs report for 2024 at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Economists expect that job growth last month was solid — but relatively tame — at 153,000 and that the unemployment rate didn’t budge from 4.2%, according to FactSet consensus estimates.

“2024 captured a very stable labor market, a labor market where supply and demand were in balance for the first time, post-pandemic,” Nela Richardson, chief economist at payroll company ADP, said Wednesday.

While steady, sturdy and solid were ongoing themes in the jobs market through this past year, 2025 has the potential to be anything but.

As far as preparedness, response, and general management, this is yet another example of the crescendo that we hit where your governments are literally non-functional. They can’t get anything built, they can’t fix anything, they can’t actually prepare for anything, and they sure as heck can’t manage themselves.

President Biden leaves us with the greatest economy.

Nothing but unmitigated disaster next 4 years to be fixed by another Democrat after trump is kicked out

  12. Very Stable Genius says:

Harris teams were not able to convert the following Biden’s success
into more substantial gains at the polls:

    • Close to an all-time high in the labor force participation rate, a proxy for a very strong labor market.
    • A surge in reshoring activity of US manufacturing jobs after reshoring progress declined under Trump.
    • An industrial policy that overwhelmingly benefits GOP districts: ~75% of energy bill spending is going to GOP districts, many of which are located in swing states.
    • The largest surge in manufacturing-related construction spending on record, which appears directly tied to passage and implementation of the Chips bill; key locations include Arizona, Ohio and New Mexico.
    • Highest YTD equity gains in an election year since 1936, contributing to the highest solvency measures in over two decades for US corporate defined benefit plans
    • On Trump’s proposed tariffs: of ten states with the highest shares of imports to state GDP, 8 are GOP states.
    • The inflation surge was painful but has subsided; wages are rising faster than rising rents; and the Fed was able to raise policy rates to stem inflation without triggering a recession for the first time in 60 years.

  13. Fast Eddie says:

joe in a meeting yesterday regarding the fires: “Madam Vice President, I know you’re directly affected, so fire away, no pun intended.”

  17. Libturd says:

Trump lied endlessly about the economy. The masses are asses and believed him. Fear not, on January 21st, all that was broken will miraculously be fixed. Dems messed up in too many ways to even bother listing here.

Now watch as Trump destroys it all.

  18. Libturd says:

As to the wildfires in Los Angeles. Everyone here is clueless. 100 mph winds for nearly a week and a dry rainy season was simply a recipe for disaster. Blaming unpreparedness by government officials is like blaming Florida for not stopping a storm surge. If Greenwood Lake experienced that, it wouldn’t be on the map anymore. They couldn’t even land commercial planes in Burbank yesterday due to the winds and you think more water would have stopped a wildfire? It’s all politics and lies from the right. It’s all they know. I’ll admit when the Dems suck balls, like when they chose Harris for you, or when Biden didn’t step down soon enough. These are clear mistakes. But blaming the wildfires on poor governance is a complete lie. There simply is no way to stop them without the help of nature.

Our good friend and neighbor’s brother’s house in LA was razed to the ground. They were given enough warning and gathered whatever they could, pictures, jewelry and valuable art pieces, hopped into their two cars and evacuated. They are currently holed up in a friend’s apartment.

The guy was a successful businessman, and purchased the property for about $900K 15 years ago. It was worth $4M when it was burned down. They are down to earth folks and as hard as it is, they are happy to be safe.

So many questions on how they can even think of rebuilding – given that their entire neighborhood is destroyed. All that is left are the street maps on Google and zillow pictures.

“Trump lied endlessly about the economy…Now watch as Trump destroys it all.”

TDS, yes! Intelligent, rational, ‘traditional’ blue-state liberals (Dershowitz, Musk, Zuckerberg, etc) are abandoning the Dems in droves because of their incompetence and their march toward leftist authoritarianism, and yet the stubborn group of TDS-suffering stooges here insist that SlowJoe and Carmella were the better choice. You guys need serious help.

And yes, the LA fires are the disaster they are because of California’s disastrous Dem governance. You nuts really think it’s a coincidence that firms are fleeing the blue states for Texas, etc?

  30. Phoenix says:

They abandon who is no longer in charge, then get down on their knees and suck the member of the one who is in charge.

There is no allegiance. No loyalty. No morality. It’s just about giving head to get what you want from the one who is in power and can give it to you.

Ed read the comment..lots of CYA…..

In response to the 117 Million gallon reservoir being offline, Former DWP general manager Martin Adams (an expert on the city’s water system) … “Would it have saved the day? I don’t think so.” Martin skipped math … That water would have provided 3,900 man hours of maximum pressure fire hose.

  36. Phoenix says:

    Trump.
First convicted felon in office. Ever.

How fitting for a criminal cuntry.

  37. Phoenix says:

The Chinese could have made a cover in a week for this joint. In Americca, just finding someone who won’t rip you off and do shoddy work is a project in itself. Or we could have just let this lady fill the reservoir herself. She is a rocket scientist by the way:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/1hxopum/woman_confronts_california_governor_over_wildfires/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Had DWP held water in the reservoir with a ripped cover, the water would have been legally undrinkable except in emergencies, and it would have contaminated the water supply for the Palisades and the wider Westside.

The utility technically could have started filling the reservoir over the weekend, in advance of the extreme winds, but it takes a month to refill the reservoir to prevent damage and sustain pressure in the system, and that any water added would have contaminated the area’s drinking supply.

  38. Phoenix says:

This will reach a trillion dollars in losses.

Boomer response: Just put it on my tab (government deficit)

Not gonna be around to pay it back anyway. F U.

  39. Phoenix says:

Gonna be even more fun with OrangeFace Trump ready to tariff everything.

    Fridge: Tariff.
    Fixtures : Tariff
    Appliances: Tariff

And everything else. Timing is great. Fixing, refurbishing these homes with Tariffed products is going to increase the cost an additional 30 percent, on top of the grifiting by the contractors who smell blood in the water like the sharks in the Pacific.

Disaster Capitalism. Don’t worry, they are going to azz rape everyone they can.

  40. LAX says:

  42. LAX says:

Not sure if it is true but if so, she needs to be recalled…..immediately:

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass demanded her Fire Department make an extra $49million of budget cuts last week, a leaked memo revealed.

This cut is already on top of $17.6million of cuts in her latest budget.

The extra cuts, requested just days before fires broke out and devastated swathes of Los Angeles, would have shut down 16 fire stations and crippled the department’s ability to respond to emergencies, sources said.

  44. Fast Eddie says:

  45. LAX says:

Looks like the water dept was also to blame for that empty reservoir.
    Insaaaaane amount of negligence.
