From the NY Post:
Wealthy New Yorkers flock to Palm Beach, causing house prices to skyrocket: ‘Supercharged migration’
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, wealthy New Yorkers eager to escape the confines of the Big Apple fled south toward the tony, sun-soaked island of Palm Beach, FL—sparking a migration trend that has continued ever since, sending local home prices skyrocketing in the process.
As demand for homes on the barrier island surged, it caused not only a significant surge in the median property price but also prompted a notable drop in available inventory.
“Palm Beach saw a massive uptick in housing demand during the pandemic, which drove home prices higher and inventory levels lower,” says Realtor.com® senior data analyst Hannah Jones.
The median home price in the luxury town, which has a population of fewer than 10,000, peaked at an eye-watering $4.15 million in April 2022 after years of growth, according to Jones.
Although the median asking price has since slipped, it remains well above 2019 levels.
“Despite improvement, home prices remain well above pre-pandemic levels in Palm Beach as the effects of pandemic-era demand persist,” adds Jones.
And the deep-pocketed residents of the Empire State are largely responsible for Palm Beach’s stratospheric home prices, according to experts.
“It’s a wealth migration from New York City,” Ana Bozovic, a Miami-based real estate agent and founder of Analytics Miami, tells Realtor.com, addressing the unprecedented changes in Palm Beach.

Got our first electric bill since we got the hot water heater pump. Used almost 400 fewer kilowatts of electricity than same cycle last year. If that keeps up the electricity savings will have been for itself in 4-5 years.
Electric to electric?
Yes. We had 2 traditional electric hot water heaters with 50 gallon tanks. They both died the same weekend. Would have been $3,600 to replace them. Got an A O Smith hot water heater with heat pump. That was $4,600.. there’s a 30% tax credit for it too we will get back next year and it uses a fraction of the electricity a traditional tank uses. The estimated annual cost to run was $120 on the sticker on it. The old tanks were 12 years old and had around $540-$550 estimate for each. I think between the tax credit and saving 400 kilowatts a month the savings compared to two tanks will pay for itself in 4-5 years.
Our fixed 2 year rate just ended. And went up 2 cents a kilowatt and the term was only for 12 months. If you move to a state that has deregulated electricity make sure to look at the rate chart.l when you sign up for a provider. There were plans estimating 12.9
Cents a kilowatt, but the first 1000 used were charged 20.9 cents a kilowatt. We used 900 this cycle and our new rate is 17 cents per kilowatt for the first 1000. And don’t get a variable plan. Some of those charge the spot market rate.

We went to a Korean tofu soup restaurant on Saturday. When you order a tofu stew they always serve a raw egg in shell on the side you can crack and put the egg into the bubbling broth when it’s served. The broth is so hot it cooks the egg. No egg on Saturday. Was wondering if they’re unavailable or is it a cost cutting measure.
Wind howling, my Willow tree lost several bug branches overnight…I need to perhaps take it down. I had it trimmed 4 years ago, it never fully came back, and last summer its crown and leaves were about 1/2 of normal. The dry weather we had and all may have don’t it in. It is about 70 ft tall..so $$$ to remove.
Wind is crazy. Blew down a couple of sections of my fence. 4×4’s were rotted a bit, but still snapped them right off at ground level. I’ll get it repaired for now, 250’ of new fence this spring.
Normally I’d do it myself, but I woke up with the flu, and its ridiculously cold, so it’s a point and pay just to keep the dog in the yard.

DId Yoel vote for Trump?
Shortly after taking over the site, Musk falsely posted that Yoel Roth, the site’s former head of trust and safety, was “in favor of children being able to access adult Internet services.” Some interpreted the comment to mean Roth was a pedophile, prompting a wave of antisemitic and homophobic harassment that ultimately forced him to move out of his home, according to Roth’s congressional testimony.
Attacking a blind dude? Good ol’ musk.
The Nazis saw people with disabilities as an obstacle in their attempts to create an idealized “German race.” In 1939, the Nazi regime began a systematic program to murder them.
Musk retweeted a post on X noting that the “blind director of watchdog group funded by George Soros testifies that he does not see widespread evidence of government waste” and added two laughing/crying emojis. The tweet garnered more than 21 million views, and sparked dozens of hateful messages to Hedtler-Gaudette’s account.
“He couldn’t see s— … perfect excuse for being unable to perform your job,” one poster said. “The dei blind guy can’t see fraud. U can’t make up this garbage,” another wrote. One person even called for posters to surface Hedtler-Gaudette’s bank account.

From Associated Press. ( the banned one )
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has begun firing several hundred Federal Aviation Administration employees, upending staff on a busy air travel weekend and just weeks after a January fatal mid-air collision at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Probationary workers were targeted in late night emails Friday notifying them they had been fired, David Spero, president of the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists union, said in a statement.
The impacted workers include personnel hired for FAA radar, landing and navigational aid maintenance, one air traffic controller told the Associated Press. The air traffic controller was not authorized to talk to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Spero said messages began arriving after 7 p.m. on Friday and continued late into the night. More might be notified over the long weekend or barred from entering FAA buildings on Tuesday, he said.
The employees were fired “without cause nor based on performance or conduct,” Spero said, and the emails were “from an ‘exec order’ Microsoft email address” — not a government email address.
The firings hit the FAA when it faces a shortfall in controllers. Federal officials have been raising concerns about an overtaxed and understaffed air traffic control system for years, especially after a series of close calls between planes at U.S. airports. Among the reasons they have cited for staffing shortages are uncompetitive pay, long shifts, intensive training and mandatory retirements.
In the Jan. 29 fatal crash between a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and American Airlines passenger jet, which is still under investigation, one controller was handing both commercial airline and helicopter traffic at the busy airport.
Just days before the collision, President Donald Trump had already fired all the members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, a panel mandated by Congress after the 1988 PanAm 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland. The committee is charged with examining safety issues at airlines and airports.
One FAA employee who was fired over the weekend suggested he was targeted for his views on Tesla and X, formerly Twitter, not as part of a general probationary-level sweep. Both are owned by Elon Musk, who is leading Trump’s effort to cut the federal government.
Charles Spitzer-Stadtlander posted on LinkedIn that he was fired just after midnight Saturday, days after he started getting harassing messages on Facebook.
“The official DOGE Facebook page started harassing me on my personal Facebook account after I criticized Tesla and Twitter,” Spitzer-Stadtlander wrote. “Less than a week later, I was fired, despite my position allegedly being exempted due to national security.”
He added: “When DOGE fired me, they turned off my computer and wiped all of my files without warning.”
Spitzer-Stadtlander said he was supposed to be exempted from the probationary firings because the FAA office he worked in focused on national security threats such as attacks on the national airspace by drones.
The Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The firings were first reported by CNN.
The air traffic controllers should all quit in masse.

“the Louisiana Department of Health stopped promoting routine vaccinations…”
RFK Jr. has been HHS Secretary for a week; he’s not the reason some Americans are leery of vaccines. This distrust never would’ve happened if the Dems and their operatives throughout the gov bureaucracy hadn’t forced people to take a rapidly-developed and barely-tested COVID vaccine, and then lied about it’s efficacy. Remember when SlowJoe lied to our faces and said “You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations’? If the Dems had just been honest about the vax and recommended it, rather than forcing people to take it or lose their jobs, people might still have trust. Blame the Dems, not RFK Jr.

Meanwhile, how appropriate on this Presidents Day that many people are talking of adding DJT to Mt Rushmore. I wonder if they’ll put him next to Washington or Lincoln. Too bad they can’t get him next to Jefferson since both will be remembered for realizing America’s manifest destiny; Jefferson of course for expanding the US to the Pacific Ocean and DJT for Greenland, Gaza, the Canal and Canada (aka North North Dakota).

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) – Argentina’s benchmark S&P Merval stock index tumbled close to 4% on Monday, after libertarian President Javier Milei touted a cryptocurrency which crashed soon after, in a case the country’s fintech chamber said could amount to a “rug pull.”
Milei later deleted his X post recommending the little-known crypto coin $LIBRA and said he had no relation to the cryptocurrency, but opposition lawmakers have said Milei could face an impeachment trial in Congress.
A judge was assigned to evaluate the legal cases against Milei on Monday.
Analysts said the opposition is unlikely to garner the votes to push through an impeachment proceeding but the accusations of fraud and Milei’s direct involvement should have an important political impact on his government, which faces mid-term elections later this year and has championed taking a chainsaw to red tape.
Some investors reacted on social media over the weekend in anger, saying they had been scammed out of their savings by the president of Argentina, while Milei’s supporters defended him as the victim of politically-motivated attacks.
“Irresponsible promotion of assets puts thousands of people at risk,” ONG Bitcoin Argentina, a local educational non-profit, said over the weekend. “We take a stand against this fact and reaffirm the importance of education and transparency.”
In a regular morning conference, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to questions on the scandal saying the public would have to see what comes out of the investigations.
“It is extremely serious if confirmed, especially in terms of a president’s powers to promote something private,” she said. “If as a president of a country you propose something for private benefit there is an obvious conflict of interest.”
Milei himself came out swinging in face of criticisms.
“To the filthy rats of the political caste who want to take advantage of this situation to do harm, I want to say that they confirm every day how vile politicians are, and this increases our conviction to kick them in the ass,” Milei said in a post on Friday in which he said he had deleted his original post.

Small: Taking over Gaza is absolutely insane, plus inhumane to force people out. And we will have more 9/11 terrorist attacks in the U.S.. Americans don t want to take over Canada, and Canadians don’t want to be part of the U.S.. As for Greenland, the residents will decide their future, if they ultimately get independence from Denmark, then the U.S. can negotiate directly with the new government for security arrangement including new military bases. Finally, taking back the Panama Canal will cause outrage in Latin America, and drive those countries into closer relationships with China.
These meetings between the US and Russia to end the Ukrainian war really have me concerned. How can they leave out the EU countries when they will be the ones implementing any agreement? We could end up with a peace deal that only lasts until Russia is re-armed and re-grouped.
Chad: I agree, but the Europeans have been lukewarm warm in their support for the Ukrainian war effort since the Russian invasion, especially the Germans. That and the go slow approach of Biden. How could Biden and the EU talk of NATO membership, and Ukraine regaining all of it’s territories, when they never really provided the military support to the Ukrainians to actually have a chance of winning, or at least being on stronger ground than they are now. It was only late in Biden’s presidency that he allowed the Ukrainians to use American provided long range missiles to attack targets inside Russia. Trump said he would negotiate with Putin directly to end the war , and that is what he is doing. The EU particularly the German government screwed up big time on this.
Chad — Peace talks are bad? Look there are bigger things than just Ukraine.
Relations between the United States and Russia became critically strained, we are no longer performing Nuclear inspections. As of last February Russia will no longer allow the US inspect its nuclear facilities. Russian disarmament, well it’s already at risk and I mean the big stuff Nuclear war heads.
The New START treaty is kaput due to this war. It’s more important to end the war now on really any terms and restart nuclear inspection.
As far as EU participation, they should also agree to nuclear inspections as French and British nuclear weapons were never covered under the START treaties between the US and Russia.
Regardless of what you personally think of Russia or the War in Ukraine it’s more important that we get Nuclear disarmament right, and keep the progress which began under Ronald Regan in the 1980s and first signed under Bush I in 1991 with the first Start Treaty.
So, the democrats wanted to hire 80,000 additional IRS agents to perform tax audits but oppose an audit to investigate the abuse of tax dollars.
DOGE is not doing audits! They haven’t had anywhere near enough time to actually do real audits on any of the grants/programs/departments they are cutting.
And they aren’t really providing any justification at all for all the cutting they are doing.
Inspectors General are the guys who normally audit gov programs.
Of course Trump (illegally) fired 17 of them in his first week.
Smallman 10:48,
Covid vaccinations was the right thing to do at the time.
You have no idea how public health works, and so doesn’t cheeto who was responsible for it all. Including the hundreds of thousands that died in his watch. And now you are stupid enough to blame democrats. Remind me again who was in power when the outbreak happened and all the mis information spread by him that led to distrust.
And don’t forget that cheeto dismantled the task force that was responsible for containing the virus.
And doing the exact same thing now – perhaps more.
Only a matter of time before you see Americans limping around due to polio.
What is the sense on the ground over there? What is the react to JD Vance’s comments in Munich?

chicagofinance,
Vance got a pretty cold reception in Munich to his speech. One of the things he said was not to ignore your own people just because they have a different viewpoint than the mainstream parties. He was referring to the AfD, and the major political parties have an agreement not to work with the AfD in a coalition government. The problem is right wing parties are rising in popularity here and throughout the EU. The AfD is a pretty sensitive topic in Germany due to events that took place during WWII, so Germans weren‘t expecting those types of comments from Vance. Vance also never mentioned the Ukrainian war during his speech which was also a bit strange. Interestingly the German security personnel wanted a group photo with Vance before he got on his plane to leave. Germans are feeling somewhat out of sorts lately. The economy has not been doing very well for a while, Trump was re-elected, and of course their own government collapsed almost immediately after Trump was elected. People are very uncertain about the future.

“Are we great yet?”
Getting closer every day now. We’ll take another huge step this week if Kash gets confirmed and can start cleaning up the FBI. I know that you’ve been saying forever that no one (D or R) will ever cut waste and fraud, and really get to the heart of the out-of-control gov spending, so you must be thrilled to see the new admin working so hard to do just that.
I would be thrilled if there was reform and government shrinkage. Instead, it’s been a show with absolutely no consideration of the consequences. Could you imagine working for the government today. You would be walking on eggshells. If you had any talent whatsoever, you would be planning your exit as soon as possible. So what does that leave us with?
Same with burning every bridge and international cooperation that was formed over decades and centuries. When China or Russia attacks. Don’t go looking for Europe to join us. Not anymore. And the boneheaded economic decisions may result in problems for the rest of the world.
But it sure looks good to morons like you.
Just wait for the inflation and the pandemics.
And finally, if Trump did little to nothing for the middle and lower classes last time around, what makes you think he’s going to do something for them THIS time around? Just wait for those tariffs and tax cuts to kick in. That’s when we’ll be great right? When the world hates us, that’s when we’ll be great.
So much drama Lib, yet so little sense…

“I would be thrilled if there was reform”
Explain, what is this reform you’re referring to? Sounds like gobbldygook from a guy that really doesn’t care about waste and fraud as long as big gov is there to take care of him.
“Don’t go looking for Europe to join us”
As JD so eloquently — and accurately — put it to the weak and parasitic euro’s, “you’re running in fear of your own voters, there is nothing America can do for you, nor, for that matter, is there anything that you can do for the American people”. The leftist dope that runs the UK promised troops to Ukraine without realizing that they don’t even have enough soldiers to support two 6-month tours. Face it, our euro ‘allies’ are useless.
We didn’t see all that much concern from the current crowd here when people’s businesses were getting flushed down the toilet in 2020 when they weren’t allowed to open.
8:31, do you have a count of how many Americans died in 2020?
Who was the President then?
Did the President do anything to stop the virus from invading our country?
Did you lose any loved ones?
What would have been the count if the businesses were allowed to operate as if there was no pandemic?
Brisket at Walmart is up $1 a pound since last week.
Can’t blame Biden or the Bird Flu.
Lib: The world pretty much hated us before Trump, they may hate us more now, but they have hated us for years. As for Europe, they did nothing when Yugoslavia imploded, and recklessly started recognizing the new various independent countries that arose with the disintegration of Yugoslavia, without at least trying to broker a peaceful dissolution, and of course Kosovo, they did nothing to stop the slaughter of Kosavars by the Serbians until the U, S, stepped in. J. D. is not totally wrong, and I say that as someone who loves Europe, has visited it often, and know it pretty well.
What would have been the count if the businesses were allowed to operate as if there was no pandemic?
About the same.
Can’t blame Biden or the Bird Flu.
Must be those tariffs on Brisket
Or maybe, it’s gotten a lot harder to find ranchers with the threat of mass deportations?
