From the Star Ledger:
Whitney Houston unloading Mendham estate
Whitney Houston has put the 5-acre Mendham estate where she married singer Bobby Brown on the market for $2.5 million, far less than its assessed value of $5.6 million.
The 12,561-square-foot home, which she bought in 1987 for $2.7 million, is described in its listing as modern, full of natural light, with three fireplaces, walk-in closets, a bar (uh-oh), floor-to-ceiling windows, and a four-car garage. The (quite frankly rather dated-looking, and we’re not the only ones who think so) home has Frank Lloyd Wright-style stained glass in the entry, an enormous kitchen, and what appears to be a custom-made bed in the center of the master bedroom.
From the Examiner:
Whitney Houston’s ‘crack is whack’ New Jersey mansion for sale
Whitney Houston’s “Crack is Whack” house is on the market. The Grammy winner is asking $2.5 million for the Mendham Township, NJ house. While she commuted back and forth between this mansion and the house in Georgia, the reality show Being Bobby Brown was filmed for Bravo.
During this time, while Whitney Houston’s handlers were denying she was doing crack, she told Diane Sawyer…
…
This is the home where she married Bobby Brown in 1992. Whitney Houston has the mansion listed for $2.5 million. That’s less than half its $5.6 million assessed value.
From WPIX:
Whitney Houston Places NJ Mansion For Sale
Whitney Houston has put her multi-million dollar New Jersey home where she married Bobby Brown on the market for $2.5 mlllion.
The couple got hitched at the $5.6 million dollar home in Mendham in 1992 and then separated in 2007.
The real estate website describes the residence as a modern-styled home full of natural light and containing “circular-themed interior spaces,” as well as four-car garage, three fireplaces, walk-in closets, a bar, skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Houston nearly lost the home in 2006 after Mendham tax officials claim the 46-year-old singer and former reality star failed to pay taxes for four straight quarters and ignored delinquent notices.
From the Philly Inquirer:
Whitney Houston’s NJ mansion for sale
Whitney Houston’s New Jersey estate, where she married Bobby Brown in 1992, is for sale.
The five-bedroom, 12,561-square-foot house in Mendham Township is listed for $2.5 million. That’s less than half its $5.6 million assessed value.
The Coldwell Banker Web site estimates a buyer would have monthly mortgage payments of $10,819 based on a down payment of $500,000 and a 5 percent interest rate on a 30-year, $2 million mortgage.
frist!
Is the 3 million below assessed a ploy to start a bidding war, does she need the cash quick, or is there 3 million of damage to the place? (how much does it cost to detox a house that size?)
That house looks like a cross between a pillbox and the monmouth county library Eastern/Shrewsbury branch.
The articles don’t mention granite. or stainless. I’ve got no bid without those. I want those in my house, cause that’s what agents on tv tell me i want. And so do the voices in my head.
lol
Problem is Houston’s house is in a stupid development. Even Mike Tyson knew enough to buy on Bernardsville Mountain.
What a coincidence. I was getting a home inspected last week and my inspector and pool guy had just done this house. Said it was a mess, with holes in the walls, where someone put a fist through it – in the music studio where they fought. Indoor pool was messed up because heat was left off.
NJ is DONE.
GET OUT!!!!
IT is going DOWN.
IT is NOT coming back.
IT was a glorious place. IT peaked in 1988-89 and has been down down down down hill since.
Once of bastion of freedom, revolution and industry is now a leading communist state.
Hey Gator, what is going on in Gainsville?

MEDFORD LAKES — A small borough in Burlington County could be in for some big changes.
Medford Lakes officials are planning next year’s budget, under which the mayor said personnel, service and equipment cuts are possible in each department.
The borough is also concluding its first property assessment in some 15 years, which officials said will cause unprecedented tax hikes for hundreds of borough property owners.
Mayor Paul Weiss said if difficult budget cuts aren’t made, Medford Lakes will be closer to taxing itself out of existence.

In what universe was that house ever worth anything near $5m?
I lived nearby in Mendham in the late 80s and remember scratching my head back then at the purchase price. It’s smack in the middle of Oak Knoll, surrounded by homes priced at $750k or so (back then, and probably now too).
Thoroughly unextraordinary development right on the Chester border. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing there to justify that kind of price.
I guess they think that plastic bubble skylight and red charcoal grill outside provide the upscale aura required for a premium in today’s market.
Medford Lakes is a small boro surrounded by the larger Medford Twp. The population is 4,161 within 1.2 sauare miles. There are only 1500 housing units in this hamlet.
If ever there was a town which needed to be consolidated into a larger community….this is it. Wait til those 1500 citizens get their new tax bills.
Dude… good post! I might actually even listen to what you are saying. Overall your whole blog is great… I am digging it. Peace!
I don’t usually comment on blogs but had to on yours. You have a very distinctive writing style. A lot of people don’t have that touch, they just drone on and on in the most boring way. But not you – thanks! I have been researching mortgage rates for awhile now and your web site really gave me some good perspective. Please visit my site at http://www.MortgageNewsman.com when you have a few minutes. Thanks!
This is just my sort of my music, thank you! I found loads like this to download at http://www.legal5ounds.com

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.
Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.
Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

A thoughtful insight and ideas I will use on my blog. You’ve obviously spent some time on this. Well done!
Really worth my time. I just want to encourage you in continuing to post entries such as this one. Thank you.
I can see that you are an expert at your field! I am launching a website soon, and your information will be very useful for me.. Thanks for all your help and wishing you all the success in your business.
I thought it was going to be some boring old post, but it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.
