Is this sort of blowout event normal or is this a sign that Centex is having trouble selling its inventory ?

    Centex Steps Up Promotions

In an aggressive push to move its housing inventory in Northern California, Centex Homes is offering up to $100,000 discounts on its stock of new homes in the region.

The incentives demonstrate how pricing is becoming an issue in Northern California and other coastal areas of the country. The San Francisco Bay area has shown rapid price increases over the past few years, which has boosted margins at builders. But with land prices rising and the use of incentives increasing, margins will eventually come under more pressure.

Seems these sales haven’t been confined to California. I’ll leave it up to you folks to determine if this is a sign of trouble in the market..

I just go in from Los Angeles a few hours ago. One homebuilder company (forgot who)was having a “red dot sale” where homes with a big red dot on the door would be offered with huge incentives such as cash back and below market intesrest rates. It sounded like one of those Crazy Eddie commercials.

This wasn’t anything against Centex. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I have no problems with the homebuilders. They have nothing to do with the current state of the local market.

This was all in good fun, just a Friday afternoon laugh. This is not any kind of stab against Centex.

This issue tends to get very “doom and gloomy”, a good laugh every once in a while keeps us sane.

    Grim,

Tommorrow the New York Times NJ section has an article about the exodus of the middle class in NJ to the south. More specifically to central Florida which they are saying is NJ in FLA. It will probably be available after midnight on the NYT website. A map is with the article showing counties with the highest migration.

Housing costs are the reason given.

And the REAL fun has not even started yet.

Wow. This is going to get really ugly in next 6-12 months.
    Patience.
