From CNN:
Markets rise after Federal Reserve hits pause again on rate hikes
US markets soared higher Wednesday, rebounding after a dismal October and three straight months of losses.
The Dow rose by 221 points, or 0.7%, in Wednesday trading. The S&P 500 hit a session high, and was up 1.1%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was 1.6% higher.
The Federal Reserve said it would keep interest rates between 5.25% and 5.5%, and amended language in its post-meeting statement to say that “economic activity expanded at a strong pace in the third quarter.” Previously, Fed officials wrote that the economy had grown at a “solid pace.”
Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that he would not rule out another rate hike at the Fed’s next meeting in December, but Wall Street seemed to brush off the fear of more economically painful hikes.
In a note to investors, Whitney Watson global co-head and co-chief investment officer of fixed income at Goldman Sachs Asset Management wrote that “the economy’s resilience has not stalled labor market rebalancing or revived wage and price pressures, suggesting disinflation will progress and indicating that the Fed will likely keep its policy unchanged into 2024.”
Treasury yields, meanwhile, slumped to 4.76% on the Fed news.

I’m surprised shiny metals aren’t 50% higher than current prices. 80% of all U.S. dollars in existence were printed in the last two years. If you think prices of anything you can physically touch are slowing, I have some land in Gaza to sell you. How about services? Hire an electrician or plumber to make a service call and let me know how much they charge just to pull up to the front door. Interest rates on credit card debt? LMAO! Let’s hear predictions on when CC debt reaches $2 trillion.

Hell, I heard they threw a party last night.
Supply chain problems?
More like the need for massive government subsidies to built out a hundred or more specialized ports for handling and assembling the wind turbines, and keep fleets of large and expensive service ships running 24 x 7.
They really should just build these things on land or perhaps some barrier islands
and use eminent domain to take all of LBI for the wind farm. It’s for the children!!!
Subsidies?
But, this is the way…

Did you know there were 85 pairs of dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark?
I wanna know who came up with the accent for Noah in the link above. I would’ve given Noah a Brooklyn accent like Bugs Bunny.
Is there a connection between the Noah’s ark/dinosaur thing and Johnson’s strong support of fossil fuels?
Baby Jesus wants us to make use of the dinosaurs.
Why else were they on the ark?
If nearly every home in the ghetto can be a ministry, then really, what’s wrong with a little taxpayer subsidized museum? Heck there’s God on our money, God on our federal government buildings, God in our supreme court and God in our pledge of allegiance. For a country that was founded on the principle of freedom of religion, God help you if you are agnostic or an atheist.
Speaker Mike Johnson was elected to fulfill the biblical prophecy, they could even run him for President.
Old Testament Book of Ezekiel chapters Ezekiel 37 & 38…..
BTW just been playing around with iOS 17. We are now able to share locations between devices of the air tags we put in our kids backpacks, it used to be only one apple id at a time, you can now share between accounts as long as they are in the family group.
That Ark is not the only taxpayer subsidized museum with Dinosaurs in it.
I consider the inclusion of Dinosaurs a win win for the children. What is central to enlightened thought is the allowance for reason…They somehow thought about it and decided to included Dinosaurs. What is next? We are not the center of the universe or will that take another 1000 years?
Lmao!!

The squeeze at the Panama Canal is getting tighter. Officials are cutting available slots for ship transits by half this winter as a drought that has already triggered lengthy backups gets even worse. The WSJ’s Costas Paris reports the latest changes come after Panama experienced its driest October on record, extending a monthslong spell of warmer temperatures and low rainfall. The canal administration said daily reservation slots will be cut to 25 this month, 22 in December, 20 in January and 18 in February. Last month the canal had 32 daily transits. The waterway can normally handle an average of 40 transits a day. Authorities say about 98 vessels are waiting to cross at both sides of the canal. Containerships that have fixed schedules and booked slots months in advance aren’t facing serious delays, but crude and gas tankers calling on short notice can be trapped for weeks.
The owner of a gas carrier paid a record $2.85 million at an auction for a slot to get the vessel through the Panama Canal. (TradeWinds)
Speaking of Armageddon. I saw a Centipede in my garage this morning it was migrating indoors trying to stay warm. Many insects have just all died off with the freeze this morning, it dipped as low as 28 F in Hackettstown town in in the North and It’s really quiet outside now. I am thinking we get a harsh winter this year if it says cold and the rains keep coming. Water vapor in the North East atmosphere has increased dramatically in the last 30 years as so has the rain…Just needs to stay cold…

Wind is not a serious source of energy for a large, advanced economy today.
If people want energy they should work on fixing the economics-crushing regulation placed on nuclear plants.
Greens lobbied for decades to make it prohibitively expensive to build nuclear plants, now they say “nuclear isn’t cost competitive!”.
The real goal of greens has been to stop human industrial progress.
Paul Erlich famously compared giving society cheap abundant energy to giving a child a machine gun. Amory Lovins argued that discovering “a source of clean, cheap, abundant energy” would be disastrous, “because of what we would do with it.” Instead, Lovins argued, we should look to “energy sources that are adequate for our needs, but that won’t give us the excesses of concentrated energy with which we could do mischief to the earth or to each other.”
Apparently only greens know how much energy is “adequate” for humanity.
Father Stu, It is worse in Germany even though officially the state and religion are separate. In Bavaria the local grade school has crosses at the front of every classroom, religion is taught in school, and there is also church tax. You can get out of paying church tax by signing a form at the city hall declaring you are leaving the church.

Father Stu,
I, pretty much, got ex communicated from my church by proving what my ex did (not hearsay, hard evidence) during an “annulment” where any excuse you could possibly make up is enough to cancel a marriage. Not that I wanted to be married to the beech, but to have her pay, any, any sort of penalty for her f’ing crimes. What they want, just like every other criminal enterprise, was money. When I realized that this was really the procedure, and that she could commit even crimes against “God, ” I basically told him no wonder your friends have no problem banging altar boys, I guess that is okay as well.
I actually enjoyed doing that.
More energy?
Most Americans just eat and consume products made by the Chinese.

Green fanatics are Luddites and worse, at extreme levels advocate policies that would result in widespread poverty under the guise of helping everyone. 15 years ago, on this forum, I said widespread investing in solar at the time made no sense as the efficiency was likely to go way up. It did, and all that money invested in 2008 was wasted on relatively unproductive panels.

BRT,
The first generation of anything is usually crappy. But they did work. Surprised there aren’t more hot water panels- even old technology of them was fine.
But then there is this-how in some places they are pumping oil fields with water, with 92% water coming back, they skim off the oil. Other places using custom polymers to loosen the oil off the rocks, or drilling sideways.

Yeah, but Obammy and all his homies built rockin’ beachfront cribs rigged out in all kinds of trims.
In other news, I think I am about to end my long-term relationship with Chase.
I’ve slowly been migrating most of my checking and online bill payments to SOFI, which has been fantastic. Not only is their account completely free but ATM transactions are free. Checkbooks are free. And they pay 4.6% interest. Lots of good mojo and policies with them. Fantastic app as well and they have extremely high limits for online check deposit and ACH transactions. In most cases, about ten times higher than Chases.
Well about 6 months ago, I went into Chase to change my account from their highest level of checking to the lowest to avoid fees. Well they put me in the wrong account, but refunded my $25 fee. Well, I got hit with another $25 fee as I thought there was no minimum in this account, but they put me in the wrong one, so it triggered another $25 fee. I argued and argued, but to no avail. They wouldn’t refund it. So I said I would be back shortly to close my accounts. I just need to find which brick and mortar bank works best for me. Listen, $25 is no big deal, but the principle of it stinks as it was their error. Worst of all, they put me on the phone with an Indian dude who spent 15 minutes explaining how much Chase would like to help, but can’t. It’s just pure greed. How the heck can the fed raise rates 7% and they do not raise their savings/checking account interest rates even a single penny. I told him he should find a job at an online bank as eventually, the greed is going to kill this bank. I explained that I would lose $6K a year for every 100K I had in Chase. I told him I had over 500K in online banks generating me a nice $30K a year return. How they pay .01 percent interest on a checking account is absolutely criminal. He couldn’t wait for me to leave.
In other news, ate at the Yard House last night. Had a $10 off. The four of us got burgers and I had one Ayinger Celebration. Final bill with tip was under $20 a person. Noticed lots of entrees are now around $25. At the Yard House? Even the beer was $9. That’s criminal too.

“The Fight Over Return-to-Office Is Turning Into a Disability Dispute
The return-to-office battle between workers and employers is entering a more combative phase. Workers are filing more charges of disability discrimination to federal and state agencies, and an increasing share of the charges are based on mental-health conditions such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. The increase is driven partly by employers requiring that workers return to workplaces and denying some of their requests for exemptions, Lauren Weber reports.-wsj”

So, we have that; the Israeli/Hamas deal; Russia/Ukraine; 28 U.S. bases bombed in Syria and Iraq and China/North Korea sharpening their knives as they stare at Taiwan. But remember folks, the biggest threat to American security is white supremacy. Oh, and Trump. Can’t forget that one.
Lib, when I bought my house using Chase, 40% down payment. Somehow, they turned my check into a deposit and put $140k into my checking account. I informed them of the error and they “fixed it”. They put another $140k into my checking account. So now, it has $280k in it that’s not my money and I’m up $420k on where my balance should be. At that point, I said, let’s just see how long it sits there. It was like 7 months before it was spotted as an error.

BRT,
I have a $3,900 error that is about 5 years old now. I get a quarterly statement on it too. It’s an old tenant escrow account that they transferred into my account (to write the tenant a check), but it also showed up in a new account under my name simultaneously. I figure I’ll let my estate cash it to avoid potential jail time. They can just say they found the statement among my stuff. No harm, no foul.
In other news, got the Burger King circular in the mailbox today. Whopper meal, large coke, large fry is $6.99 and $13.49 for two of them. $6.49 for the 2 bacon cheeseburgers meal and $5.99 for double cheeseburger meal. Even the crispy chicken sandwich meal is $6.99. When I worked at Burger King 40 years ago, a Whopper combo meal for $3.49. and the twofer meals were $3. So really, hardly any inflation, though, most of it has been quite recent.

“In Yuxinzhuang village, a warren of narrow streets on Beijing’s outskirts known for its vibrant community of migrant workers, Zhou wolfs down noodles in a tiny Muslim restaurant.
The 30-year-old father of one has a job setting up shell companies with fake cash flow for struggling small business owners, who then use them to raise new loans to pay off their previous creditors.
But even this dubious line of business, which should thrive in a downturn, is suffering from China’s economic slowdown. Last month, Zhou’s income fell to a fraction of last year’s levels. Zhou, who did not want to give his full name, now plans to return to his family farm in the poorer central province of Henan and sell organic eggs.
