From NorthJersey.com:

North Jersey home of legendary RJR Nabisco CEO on the market for $1.5 million

After nearly 40 years, a Sparta estate once home to one of the most legendary CEOs of the era of excess, RJR Nabisco’s F. Ross Johnson, is back on the market.

Johnson’s former hilltop retreat at 210 East Mountain Road is quickly gaining interest, however, partially due to its four-season splendor, said Ryan McGurl, the listing agent with Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty. Listed for about $1.5 million, the home offers five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and unparalleled views of nearby Lake Mohawk and the Northern Highlands beyond.

Though built in the mid-1930s, the home’s most famous owner came in 1981. Johnson, born in December 1931 in Winnipeg, Canada, took ownership of 210 East Mountain the same year his company Standard Brands merged with Nabisco, then based in East Hanover. Called “a symbol of corporate greed” by the New York Times, Johnson was known for living a lavish corporate-funded lifestyle that often had him elbow to elbow with celebrities, star athletes and other high-profile executives of the 1980s.

After taking the helm at Nabisco, Johnson led the company’s 1985 merger with RJ Reynolds before attempting to take control of the public company itself. Ultimately, RJR Nabisco was sold to a private equity firm in a leveraged buyout and many of its assets were divested over the following years. Johnson was ousted but netted more than $50 million in severance pay before retreating south to run his own private investment company.

“As Mr. Trump looked on, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit peppered his lawyer D. John Sauer with tough questions about his assertion that his client could not be prosecuted for actions he took while in the White House.

The judges seemed incredulous when Mr. Sauer said a president could use the military to assassinate a political rival and be shielded from prosecution unless the Senate first convicted him at an impeachment proceeding.”

Even for a 500k account it's just 5k annually to them. 250k account is just $2,500 to them. What would you do for 2,500 annually in your line of work?

Plus, the smaller the account the more babysitting and tail risk associated with it.

Look at it this way, does their business model work with ten Pumpkins throwing $250k each at them and all the attendant idiocy and time sink, or with one informed investor tossing them 2.5m with a set it and forget it.

But there is plenty of history around this including the living presidents and cabinet members who exceptions from prosecution and heck extradition”

GWB was supposed to go to Europe a decade ago he cancelled due to a fear a warrant could be issued for his arrest. Same with Rumsfeld and heck even Vietnam era war criminal and now dead Henry Kissinger. Any doubt about his just look up Operation Menu and the secret carpet bombings in Cambodia. Obama too folks he blew up lots of civilians under his watch including Americans, for example an American child who met his end with a hellfire missile in Yemen. He was directly targeted his father was already killed by a drone strike two weeks earlier.

They are either exempt for actions in office or they are not. The courts rule against Trump well then it’s fair game for prosecution anywhere.

I like your international examples but I’d go further.

Immunity gets pulled in this case a few DAs in some of the redder States need to look at every action of Obama, Biden and even Clinton (if statutes of limitation haven’t expired) for standing and bring State cases against them.

Start with TX, obviously damaged by Biden intentionally not enforcing immigration law. Tee a grand jury up, issue a warrant, and arrest the fucker when he shows up to campaign for 2024.

Your ridiculously corrupt and bias Senate would not even hear a case on this, remember?

The problem with this is thatBiden IS enforcing immigration law.

Under current US law, if someone shows up at the border all they have to do is ay “I’m seeking asylum” and we have to let them in until they get their day before an immigration judge.

That’s why, during covid, Trump had to declare a medical emergency to keep people out.

Immigration laws need to be changed. We need more immigration judges, border agents, etc.

The mission could be a major demonstration of the nation’s spacefaring prowess, as no other nation has brought samples back from the far side of the moon.

I’d love to see those hack politicians drive the remaining entrepreneurs out of their state. Bye Bye silicon valley and venture capital bigwigs. Wonder if NJ will try to copy.

    From the WSJ
…Democrats introduced the bill last winter, and it will get a hearing Wednesday in the state Assembly as lawmakers scrounge for revenue to fill a projected $68 billion budget hole. Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday will also unveil his budget for the coming year. Democratic legislators are proposing a wealth tax as an alternative to spending restraint.

The bill would impose an annual excise tax of 1.5% on the worldwide net worth of every full- and part-year California resident that exceeds $1 billion, starting this tax year. Come Jan. 1, 2026, the state would tax wealth that exceeds $50 million at a rate of 1% each year, with an additional 0.5% tax on assets valued at more than $1 billion.

Part-time residents would be taxed on a pro rata share of their wealth based on the number of days they spend annually in California. The tax would also apply to nonresidents who have recently left the state. You can check out of the state, but you would still have to pay California’s wealth tax if you do.

The wealth tax would apply to nearly all assets, including shares in a partnership, private-equity interests, artwork and financial assets held offshore. California’s Franchise Tax Board would value assets that aren’t publicly traded. That means private businesses located outside the state could be examined by the board’s auditors and appraisers.

It’s worth noting that Democrats exempted real property from the tax as a favor to their high-end real-estate industry and Hollywood donors. This carve-out would encourage the wealthy to shift more of their investments into real estate. Perhaps Democrats are trying to ameliorate the damage from local mansion taxes in San Francisco and Los Angeles on real-estate sales.

I feel terribly for these immigrants and would gladly sacrifice a week or even a month of my own child’s education because I can only imagine the hellhole these families have escaped from.

Politics alone have you believing our country is being invaded by a bunch of drug smuggling ex-cons who are out to rape your countrymates and poison your children. The truth is, they are coming here for the same reason people have always come here. To look for a better life than the one they abandoned. Just like my great grandparents on both sides did.

Now can we handle the influx? With the two parties we are reduced to voting for? Absolutely not. But, in my opinion, the cost of this immigration has always been absorbed and it will likely be once again. Of course, I’m a socialist at heart (aware of some of the shortcomings of it too) so I’m willing to share the wealth.

  57. BRT says:
