Congrats on paying the most taxes

From the Real Deal:

Illinois and New Jersey lead U.S. in highest property tax rates for homes in 2024

Illinois and New Jersey recorded the highest effective property tax rates on single-family homes in 2024, of 1.87 percent and 1.59 percent, respectively.

That’s according to a new report from data provider Attom Data. Rounding out the top five highest tax rates were: Connecticut (1.48 percent), Nebraska (1.32 percent) and Ohio (1.31 percent). Attom noted that New York was excluded from their analysis because of limited data.

The states with the lowest effective tax rates on single-family residences were: Hawaii (0.33 percent), Idaho, Arizona and Alabama (all at 0.41 percent). Delaware came in at 0.43 percent.

On average, U.S. property taxes on single-family homes were $4,172 in 2024 – a 2.7 percent increase from 2023, according to the report.

Attom’s report also found that this increase was smaller than the 4.1 percent increase from 2022 to 2023.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but I was the one who got India and Pakistan to agree to a ceasefire. Nobody else could do it — not Obama, not Biden, not anybody. But when I stepped in, boom — peace. They listened because they respected strength, and they respected me. It was a tremendous success — very, very historic. People said it couldn’t be done, but I did it. Just ask anybody!”

If taxes are your issue, New Jersey is not your state. Blue ribbon schools cost money. Pensions cost money. Pay up and shut up.

Where did the $25,000,000,000 portion of the O’Biden Infrastructure Bill go? The portion dedicated to upgrading the aviation network. Where is it? Where did it go?

Inda and Pakistan agree to a ceasefire… good for them both. Too bad for all the military arms dealers. Although stockpiles may still grow.

  7. OC1 says:

IMO, property taxes are too low.

If you are going to hoard a finite resource (land), and use zoning laws to limit new housing, you should have to pay for that privilege.

The airports are running on systems installed when the Batman series was in primetime. Where is that money?

Booom, Boom, Boom, this morning in Mahwah..

I remember when this first thing went up..

“The former Sheraton Mahwah Hotel came crashing down during a controlled implosion this morning. Built in 1986, the iconic structure was set on 142 acres and was long remembered as an illuminated beacon at night near the border of New Jersey and New York.”

What do Asians (including Indians, Pakistanis and Chinese) hoard more than gold? Real estate. And which state has the highest concentration of Asians? NJ.

Rich people problems. Rich people too cheap to pay retail, now in fear that Braydon is gonna be left in the park all by himself thanks to rich cheapskates.

By the time lawyers arrived Wednesday morning at the leafy playground in one of the District’s most affluent neighborhoods, the rumors had already alarmed parents across the city.

ICE agents were taking nannies and leaving children in the park, messages on group emails, WhatsApp chats and text chains warned.

  16. Grim says:

So what’s the deal with the Newark downtime?

Sounds like they moved operations from NY to Philly, and what we are seeing is a result of that move, not the old hardware.

Non-redundant copper telco lines? This shit run off of copper pots lines and old modems it sounds like.

  17. Grim says:

At what point do we crucify Verizon?

  18. Grim says:

Or is this espionage to dump Verizon and give the contact to Musk?

  19. Juice Box says:

System in question is called STARS and it’s based in NY. I believe Westbury Long Island. When the Biden administration moved the controllers from Long Island to Philly they setup a communication line from Westbury to Philly Airport and setup remote technology for the controllers to use.

There were also outages and even latency last summer. It seems it will take five years to move the Newark Air Space fully to Philly so it does not need to rely on this remote connection that keeps failing.

You can read more about it here, from a story posted in Sept 2024.

    https://theaircurrent.com/aviation-safety/faa-knew-of-potential-for-radar-issues-before-labor-day-newark-failures/

Here are the FAA’s plans for now.

    a. adding three new, high-bandwidth telecommunications connections between the
New York-based Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS)
    and the Philadelphia TRACON;
    b. replacing copper telecommunications connections with updated fiberoptic
    technology;
    c. deploying a temporary backup system to the Philadelphia TRACON to provide
    redundancy during the transition to a more reliable fiberoptic network;
    d. establishing a STARS hub at the Philadelphia TRACON so that the facility does
not depend on a telecommunications feed from the New York STARS hub; and
    e. increasing controller staffing at the Philadelphia TRACON.

They controllers themselves? They want to jobs moved back to Long Island. If it keeps failing that could happen.

  20. Dark Phoenix says:

Sounds like the plot from Die Hard 2.

Stuart and his men, operating out of a church on the outskirts of the airport, cut all communications with incoming airplanes and disable all runway lighting.

What we need is John McClane to come and save Newark airport.

Yeah, nothing could ever go wrong here.

  24. Fast Eddie says:

Or is this espionage to dump Verizon and give the contact to Musk?

Good. At least we know the job will get done. Where’s the $25,000,000,000 from O’Biden’s Infrastructure bill? The money to upgrade commercial aviation? The bill passed four years ago. Where’s the money?

  25. Fast Eddie says:

    Gimme the f***ing money!!

  26. RentL0rd says:

Grim, we can argue that the biggest treat is not a Qatari provided Air Force One, but the passenger in the plane itself.

On a related note, watched “The Penguin Lessons” yesterday – 5-stars. It’s a movie for our times.

  28. Juice Box says:

Grim – STARS just finished replacing another 30 + year old system. That pdf you linked to is a remote version of the STARS terminal system perhaps Work From Home? The full system usually is a 24 x 24 square screen. This replaces the much older ARTS system which is the round sweeping radar screen you might have seen in the movies. Newer version has much more data like weather is overlaid on it it.

I happen to have a relative that worked on all of this stuff. Not to bore anyone here is a 3 year old video of a bunch of old engineering guys who worked on the program talking about the project….you can skip around, but the project to develop the replacement was 30 + years ago and only finished around 2021.

OS was Solaris and at least is being replaced with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
    https://youtu.be/qtJe8XCMbGw?t=3507

Not to scare anyone but there is someone on this video questioning the cyber security of it. In theory if they were using public internet connections it could be taken down by a simple denial of service attack. Not saying it happened or will happen but the hackers in ASIA are probing our military and well the US military uses this STARS system too.

I even found a bunny rabbit nest. I will be sure to keep the dog away.

  30. Gary says:

    Libturd,

That link tells me what’s in that bill. I already knew that. $25 billion for commercial aviation along with the waste for those other projects. ($8 billion for a dozen charging stations?) Control towers are losing contact with aircraft. Where do the money go?

    Juice,

If you listened to me and sold gold a few weeks ago and bought BTC…you would be up lovely. If you had real balls, and bought high beta memes (it’s a memes cycle) you would be really really happy.

You can mock me, but at this age, I have taken enough hard punches to be pretty good at reading the market. Pain leads to learning. Do it enough times and your instincts take over. GOLD topped….it’s not going up more for a while. Time to rotate before everyone realizes it. You have to beat the lemmings, that’s all investing comes down to. You have to know when to ride the lemming wave, and know when to get off the lemming train. Not easy, but with experience, it does become easier…the signs are always there.
