Nearly half of non-homeowners aren’t considering buying

From Gallup:

Housing Market Perceptions Dampen Homebuying Intentions

Homeownership appears to be further out of reach for non-homeowners in the U.S. Two-thirds of these Americans report being priced out of the market, and the smallest percentage recorded in years say they expect to buy a home within the next five or 10 years. More generally, Americans remain broadly skeptical about the housing market, as they have been since 2022, with the majority saying it’s a bad time to buy a house.

The survey finds that 62% of Americans say they own a home, while 34% indicate they rent, which is similar to the figures from recent years. Homeownership rates were higher before the housing crash in the late 2000s, consistently registering 70% or higher between 2005 and 2009.

It doesn’t appear that homeownership rates are likely to increase substantially in the near future. Among those who do not own a home, 30% think they will buy one within the next five years, 23% in the next 10 years and 45% not for the foreseeable future.

The percentage of those who expect to buy in the near term is significantly lower than what Gallup measured in prior surveys, all conducted between 2013 and 2018, when no fewer than 41% of non-homeowners expected to buy a home in the next five years. Similarly, the combined percentage planning to buy within five or 10 years, 53%, is the lowest that Gallup has recorded.

Pakistan/India continues to escalate. Pakistan retaliated last night firing missiles into India (most if not all were shot down). India retaliated today by attacking air defense systems in Pakistan, destroyed one in Lahore. Shelling across the border in a number of locations. Not sure who might have the upper hand at this point.

While Musk and Trump are in prison, China will launch 20,000 (low estimate) satellites in the next decade because they want to build the world a home and furnish it with love. Those satellites have nothing to do with military logistics, as some would lead others to believe.

JPMorgan: U.S.-U.K. trade deal likely to have ‘limited’ impact

Analysts at JPMorgan said the trade deal between the United States and the United Kingdom that Trump is announcing this morning would likely have a “limited” impact.

“It remains to be seen whether the UK can arrange an exemption from the baseline tariff following subsequent negotiations,” they wrote.

“If there is no further breakthrough on the US baseline tariff, that would significantly limit the economic upside from continued negotiations and further concessions,” the analysis said. “With the UK having broadly balanced goods trade with the US, a reasonably good political relationship, no real threat of retaliation from Westminster and extensive bilateral negotiations having taken place, it is not clear where the UK can go from here.”

The U.K. was the top buyer of U.S. services in recent years, but ranked fifth behind Canada, Mexico, China and Japan as a buyer of actual goods. While Britain is a key ally, the country does not even rank in the top five sources of imports for the U.S.

Like crypto….you can’t invest/trade it if you can’t handle the massive swings. You will get emotional and lose over and over by selling the bottoms and buying the tops. It’s your job to understand how the avg individual is feeling emotionally and act on it. When they are filled with the bull….start planning the exit. When they are filled with fear….start buying in. Currency is as much about the feeling that there is a fair market place. And BTC is definitely not going to give that feeling to 99% of the worlds population. So yes, BTC will just be a speculation and never be popular as either currency or as an investment vehicle.

Thing is….you need to understand yourself. You need to understand your emotions. If you understand that you can’t handle this emotionally, you should be dollar cost avg into index funds and call it a day. I’ll believe it when I see it Gary.

So far, the only Trump effect I’ve seen is the loss of human rights, the merging of church and state, endless lies and shitty market returns. Oh, and grifting like one could never ever imagine. Hey, where’s that wonderful first lady?

  79. Libturd says:

And the renaming of a body of water.

  80. Lorax says:

4:01 She is as far away from the incontinent old man as she could possibly be. She herself appears to be morphing into an old slav herself. Something in the water over there makes the women age really badly.

  81. Boomer Remover says:

The slavs still age better than aytalians in new york.

  82. Lorax says:

The Church and State thing is obscene.

  83. No One says:

There’s a super simple way to reduce government waste, corruption, tame budget deficits, monetary and financial shenanigans. Massively shrink the size and power of the federal government over our lives and businesses, end the Fed, go back to a gold standard. Less government power = less power to do harm.

Neither party wants this to happen, so instead we erect statues of ugly fat chicks in Times Square. The era of the Washington Monument is over, our new era has this new bloated idol at whose feet our bloated government will offer sacrifices collected from the population.

  84. RentL0rd says:

Another day of pump and dump. MAGA who bought Trump’s hype late morning got raped towards the end of the day.

  85. Lorax says:

No one I think it’s game over here in the USA.

  86. No One says:

    Eddie,
The list is dumb. Part of it is explained by the broken window fallacy.
Many of those announcements are PR moves, with long time frames. Many were already planned. Paris Baguette announced an expansion. They’ve already been growing. The whole $160m plan for a bakery plant was formed in 3 months because Trump was elected?
You know what isn’t on this list? A lot of investments that are going to be cancelled or delayed by a massive spike in regulatory/tax/tariff uncertainty. They don’t get high profile announcements like these.

In the words of Ayn Rand’s top villain in The Fountainhead describing how art can change culture: “”Don’t set out to raze all shrines—you’ll frighten men. Enshrine mediocrity—and the shrines are razed.”
The statue actually enshrines mediocrity, or perhaps less.

  88. NewGetTogether ForNoOne says:

I propose that we have the next together at Ayn Rand’s gravesite in her Westchester Cemetery.

We can have a seance with a Ouji board and deduce her opinion of King Krasnov The OrangeTurd?, the Social Security she received? how free is the capitalist free market if the free market is set by King OrangeTurd and his MAGA coins? And if she had to do it again would Cryptocurrency promotions scam be easier than her libertarian philosophy which a 10yr old that into a fight with a powerful bully would know is a scam?

Pope Leo XIV ‘looked the other way’ when confronted with child sex abuse allegations against priest in his Chicago church

The newly-elected Pope Leo XIV is facing accusations of ‘looking the other way’ when confronted with child sex abuse allegations against a priests in his Chicago and South American churches, it has emerged.

Robert Prevost, who became the first North American pontiff on Thursday, was accused by a survivors’ group of failing to act upon allegations of abuse in the U.S. and in Peru – concerns they relayed to the cardinals who selected him.

‘Staying silent is a sin. It’s not what God wants us to do. Jesus wants us to stop these things, not make a heathy garden for sexual abuse to grow,’ Lopez de Casas, a victim of clergy abuse and national vice president of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP)
