    I suspect the rural areas of north texas are going to flood the 4 populated counties with cases. I think hospitals in the DFW area will be at capacity in another 2 weeks. At least Dallas county is now requiring businesses to have their employees and customers wear masks if they can’t space at least 6 ft apart.

    Here’s an article on the importance of masks. These doctors think corona binds easiest to the linings of the nostrils and can replicate at a much faster rate in the nostrils before heading down the throat at night when people sleep. For the obese, elderly, and diabetics it is easier for the virus to enter the lungs than other people, probably from medical condition. Younger and healthier people it is more likely to travel down the esophagus and enter the stomach causing nausea and the runs. They want to study using a nettie pot that has water and baby shampoo as a daily flush to see if its safe for people and if it prevents or lowers the severity of corona.

    Drove to Sandy Hook today to get some color on my nether regions. Stood in beastly traffic for two hours trying to get onto the barrier and then promptly got popped for 51 in 35 by park police. First ticket in over a decade and completely necessary. Between the TPK tolls, park fees and all a $200 beach outing.

    There was a grand total of zero masks worn in the park, though to be fair the beach was very sparsely populated (lot E) and people rarely came closer than 12-24′.

    So, phase 2 tomorrow eh? Texted my barber down in the village, a cash only establishment @ $50-350 per patron with monthly rent to match.

    The systemic problem is corruption. Corrupt politicians cover up for corrupt cops. Now that the political weasels have decided that the arrangement doesn’t work for them any more, the police are going to recalculate.

    That will mean a lot of pain unfortunately for the vulnerable.

    Travel Update ( JJ Edition):
    A British man arrested in a Brussels airport with cocaine inside of an artificial peni$ could face up to three years in prison for the offense, prosecutors said last week.

    The man was busted trying to smuggle the drugs from Jamaica into Belgium last February, The New Zealand Herald reported.

    He allegedly told investigators that he intended to use the cocaine for personal use once he returned home.

    Prosecutors did not prove the man, who said he got the drugs while visiting his mom in the Caribbean county, was a “mule,” but still asked for a 36-month sentence, the report said.

    Defense attorneys argued such a sentence is too severe since the man is in poor health.

    “My client has kidney failure and needs to exercise as well as follow a proper diet,” his lawyer said, according to the report.

    The man is set to be sentenced on Wednesday.

Personal liability insurance, even if premium is reimburse by town, the insurance policy can still be pulled and they are out of a job like a physician. Camdem proved that restructuring departments brings down cost a lot and shuffles trouble makers out. All 3 means more career mobility, you won’t be stuck in and beholden to one town that might corrupt you, and vice versa corrupt will stay in one agency, which can be restructured or purged.

    In policing if you can’t tolerate violence you won’t make it. You will end up with some violent people in the profession.

    That’s not a systemic issue. People with violent tendencies can be weeded out. The systemic issue is the corruption and political cover. That was the problem in Camden.

    Yes, the corruption cover was systemic at all levels. But when it hit the Camden City PD it was a WAY bigger problem based on the law. Cops have to testify in front of jury to convict, but what happens when the cop has a history of confirmed lying and known to the prosecutors (the famed Brady’s List of Brady cops for State/Federal prosecutors). Cases can’t be prosecuted because they will fall apart in trial. Camden City had over 80+% Bradies, they had to go.

    If you have the resources and you are in a criminal trial you go after the cop’s credibility, best seen in OJ Simpson vs Detective Furhman vs If it does not fit you must acquit because cop is a lier. Once in the Brady list there is no career future and likely firing in future if not outright based on the Police Department – NY State Trooper (you are gone) vs NJ State Trooper (keep you around till retirement).

    This goes into what I was saying before. The best way to keep everyone honest is to keep them moving from precinct/post regularly so they don’t build clicks and stick to rules, regulations and procedures. After all you are not likely to stick your neck out to cover your partner that you only know superficially for the last 3 months and you are being transferred in another 5 months. RCMP “Mounties” do it every 3 yrs minimally, FBI every 5 minimally.

    Licensure wil help people move from agency/job to others and not dependent on local politics. Individual malpractice insurance makes sure they have their job/career personal interests above all and restructuring creates opportunities and purges of problem people.

    Yes there are issues with policing but I see the George Floyd situation as an indictment of the Minneapolis Police department and their political machine. Chauvin was known to be a rough cop, ex-military, saw combat, and he had a long history of questionable uses of force for example the guns drawn on 16 year old kids that were horsing around at a shopping mall among the other 15 or 20 so incidents of improper use of force. Police Unions and spineless politicians who were unwilling to address clear failings with the police in MN are to blame. Why the police there were still being trained on neck holds and this tactic was still permitted goes beyond incompetence.

    On the flip side Floyd had enough drugs(and a very dangerous combination) in his system that it probably would have killed any non-addict adult with almost absolute certainty, his blood concentration of fentanyl alone was at a comparable level to what was killing coke users getting tainted drugs. If someone as large as Floyd hopped up on drugs was indeed resisting arrest it is hard to make the judgement that he should not have been restrained. The length of time and the cold indifference of Officer Chauvin comes through in the video but it the situation is complicated.

    I still have difficulty seeing how they will convict on second degree murder as they need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt he intended to kill him. Manslaughter is a slam dunk and 3rd degree murder a good case could be made. My view is Ellison is messing up here, prosecutorial overreach is a bad course of action. The original prosecution could have probably gotten something on the order of a 15-25 year prison sentence for Chauvin which I think is probably fair and would represent justice being served.

    The bigger issue I see is that instead of taking this as a case of a cop abusing power that went tragically wrong, we have BLM and Antifa marching on cities toppling statues, arguing for fundamental change.

    It seems Justice may well be served, crime happens, the trial needs to happen and all the evidence needs to be presented and then we can see about Justice being served. America is supposed to be a country of law, anarchy in the street is not how “Justice” is achieved. All these morons marching with signs that say “no justice, no peace” should grow up and be responsible. Peace is always the goal, mankind at all strata of society and all races prosper under peaceful conditions and unrest is almost always universally bad and brings negative consequences. I wish for both Justice and Peace for all people, demand justice yes but remember justice is a matter of our laws and we live with a system of laws that is imperfect but exists the way it does for very good reason so we need to reconcile our own preconceived bias and square that with what occurs in a court of law. The idea that idiot politicians are supporting these demonstrations in the middle of a pandemic is shameful, absolutely shameful. Trumps is a moron and a lot of these politicians on the right promoting risky behavior are reprehensible but so are these demonstrations which are in their essence have nothing to do with a man unjustly killed during an arrest and have everything to do with the election in November and ensuring the black community votes and votes for Biden.

    Eddie, that is the problem. Biden the corporate democrat is the trojan horse, look to see who his VP is. That is who will be running the show, kind of like George Bush and Dick Cheney/Karl Rove who were really running the show during his presidency. I have real concerns that the progressive wing of the democrat party is going to try and backdoor a very troublesome candidate, one who makes Sanders look like a beacon of capitalism and one who could not possibly get the presidential nomination through normal means. I get afraid when a party decides running the “Weekend at Bernie’s” candidate is a good idea!

    As bad as Trump is, he is the “Devil” we know and on a positive note his instability actually does keep our enemies up at night. The Chinese want him gone and that to me almost says that we should re-elect in light of the fact that he is running against what is essentially a corpse.

    There is a distinct irony that BLM says to go vote, presumably for Biden when he has the far worse record on minority incarceration than Trump who actually has begun to make some meaningful reform. Trump is a moron, no doubt, he is inexplicable but at least in this regard on policy he aligns better with the concerns of the minority community than Biden and lets not even get into if Kamala is the VP nominee.

    My wife a fervent Trump hater and liberal democrat has stated in his ads, he looks like he’s having a stroke. Those ads are him at his best, it is a little concerning, she might sit out the election because she cannot vote Trump and isn’t thrilled at the prospect of someone who can’t string three sentences together reading a teleprompter in an ad will be in the highest office.

    I hear Booker isn’t doing anything maybe the Dems could nominate him, I actually think he could beat Trump as he’s a moderate and would likely get a good minority turnout. At least he is actually alive and functioning, whose idea was this anyway. this is worse than when the republicans ran Dole.

    We’ll see. My IB has struggled all year to fill roles. No additional US hires. We have one Indian H1b taking lone US role. We are six months behind on projects yet no one cares. Take budget back and replan for next year. They simply will not open purse strings. Trying to push contractor rates down farther and farther and stagnate the perms via no wage increases/crap bonuses.

    When people ask why I am sour on NYC. Here is why. Good ole Goldman. $250 share price recently and yet continually screwing NYC workers.

    There are a few things that may have happened. Ticket requests from people with no intention of going is one, this is what the left has claimed. Other possibilities include fear of Covid or the BLM protests.

    Bystander, Trump is here to burn it all down. The existing political paradigm is fundamentally broken, that is why he was elected. Yes he is totally incompetent but that is a positive because if he were competent who knows what he could get done. On the issues the left began to drive down a road towards the edge of a cliff. From the standpoint of policy the left is totally out of hand and out of touch with Americans. It took a stark raving mad man for someone to say something to China. On the policy front somehow Trump represents the more sane policy. On foreign policy his batsh*t way of doing things which infuriates everyone involved seems to have yielded better results than Obama’s totally ineffective policies. Many of these political insiders who are speaking out against Trump have their own axes to grind.

    Bystander, companies like GS deserve a swift kick as does your employer and mine. My wife was complaining about having to post what amount to non-existent jobs looking for an american worker for a role they already have earmarked for someone from india. It is a matter of dollars and cents, they can bring their existing workers over more cheaply, my wife’s comment was I have no doubt I can find an american citizen who can do this job…. My wife is the New York regional head for her area and they cannot hire here which drives her nuts it SLC or preferable India. When someone quits they are backfilled either in SLC or India.

He spoke to fears of white America and promised return of American manufacturing, nothing more. He delivered nothing because he is a charlatan. He thinks people fear him and lacks intelligence, at both IQ and emotional levels. Obama put tariffs on Chinese tires. Trump caved on China deal bc stock market is all that matters to him.     Only about 1/4 – 1/3 of the people who are able to be contacted are providing any information at all. The vast majority, 2/3 – 3/4, are refusing to provide any information about their whereabouts and who they were in contact with, citing privacy and security concerns. Less than half of those testing positive are successfully reached, meaning roughly 1/8th of those testing positive are providing any real details of who they were in contact with, and even those are tending to provide very ambiguous detail, impossible to contact trace, “I went to the food store sometime in the morning, I have no idea who I was in contact with.” This kind of information is not actioned at all. Contact tracing largely a failure, with thousands of contact tracers around the world just twiddling their thumbs for 8 hours. In the very, very, very rare case things actually work as planned, it’s turning out the infected individual has already contacted those persons directly, and the tracer is not providing any additional value at all, yet still going through the motions. Lots of individuals who are part of follow up calls are simply saying they feel like the call is a scam, because contact tracers can’t reveal any information about who may have been in contact.

    Have solid information that a number of large national governments are solidly second guessing passing on Apple/Google digital contact tracing schemes. Nearly all of their locally developed apps are completely worthless, and people are largely uncooperative with contact tracers.

    This who he is — and always has been. He has no plan, not for the day, the week or the month. No broad strategy. He just acts or, more often, reacts. His belief system and what he cares about is deeply flexible. He can think one thing in the morning and another, opposite thing by lunch.

    H1B’s are complex, there are 3 categories as I see it.

    First legitimate, these are very qualified people that we should allow in. Unfortunately these people do not make up the majority. They actually have real difficulty getting the visas.

    Next you have the people companies are using to lower wages. These people maybe qualified but are not anything special besides the fact they will work for 2/3rds a US worker salary. This is the majority of what corporate America is trying to get.

    Third you have the sweat shops, these are the foreign vendors(Infosys, Cognizant, EPAM, etc). Here the idea is they bring these people in who ferry the work back to the mother country where engineers work for $8 an hour. They are the biggest abusers by far, without the 20% on the ground the offshore model falls apart. US folks won’t take a role ferrying the work it is simply too many hours and the communication tends to be difficult, how are you going to work US hours and then communicate to overseas extensively?

    Stopping them outright isn’t the best course of action, but I think clowngress would need to get involved. The answer really is setting the salaries so high it would clear out a lot of the illegitimate visas.

    As for GS, I’d wager there are a bit more in NYC office because most of the ops jobs have been moved to value locations. Most of the H1B’s they want are for those value locations.

    I think Dumpy is right about letting salaries decide. The tech giants, WS, pharma etc. will still pay top dollar for great developers and tech leads. The problem is that they need lots of middle and low level folks underneath to support builds, project coordination activities, testing and release management (plus loads of red tape/IT audit stuff). The people quoted know that this is where it will hurt. It is a mass cultural change and production will get hit big time. The H1bs on our team work 12-14 hours each day plus weekends to support our insane workload. These big companies thrive on H1b fear of being let go and not sponsored. They hold green cards over their heads for years. They do work of 2 resources easily. You insert Americans into process who hear 5 oclock whistle and hit the beach on Saturday and so much of cheap IT strategy falls apart.

    Bystander ding, ding, ding we have a winner. Without the indentured class IT Offshoring has a lot of issues. First off cultural communication, I have a very hard time talking to these folks, I don’t really understand them nor do they really understand me. Next without these people essentially double shifting it becomes hard to pass the information to the offshore team. From my vantage point the business decisions are made in the office here, as are the technology decisions. Senior management likes to keep the decision making local and since your users are local that piece of interaction is key. Systems and IT are not built in a vacuum, you need to keep your revenue producers happy that is the golden rule.

    I say this as someone who is building a system as we speak where development is 100% offshore, we were supposed to get a lead on a visa a year ago but his visa was denied. It is a challenge we have a lot of difficulty with the offshore development team, we have a scrum master here who is working 14 hours a day trying to bridge the gap and they are leaning on the architects to handle all the interactions with the client, users, product areas, etc it is not productive. Playing telephone with a bunch of engineers(I use this term loosely, a good portion of Indian education is on par with community college) on the other side of the world does not yield a good product.

    Let the salaries decide, we should bring in people who are truly brilliant, bringing in middling engineers and PM’s just dilutes salaries. I don’t care where you are from if a company is willing to pay you 200 or 300k a year by all means come and pay taxes. When Tata brings over a boat load of PM’s they are paying 50k each to, eh not so much.

    Bystander we are already there, my firm has been doing it for about a year or 2. When I was at MS we had offshore consultants in Mexico, Indians in Guadalajara! I don’t understand how that works, whats the appeal to the Indian worker, yeah we want to transfer you from one third world country to another where the customs and language are foreign…right…I’m sure they have a lot of people signing up for that! Without the indentured aspects of visa the appeal wears thin, once someone is a citizen they don’t need to work for peanuts and do 14hr days. Exploitation is key to this model of business, it is almost like modern day slavery, they get these people away from home and lord their status over them.

    I have been out of consulting since 2013. I am sure it is more dispersed than ever but banks that I work have restrictions on location, even for contractors. All must be in central location with apperance of oversight (though asking one person to do dev and manage 40 people is a joke).

    I’m currently reading “The Masada Plan” which is a fictitious novel so to speak based on real places and events. Masada is an enormous piece of a rock plateau in Israel. Go look it up and read the history. So, it occurred to me that the Jews have been vilified, scorned, attacked and assailed for a few thousand years. Despite it, they’ve fought and prevailed time and time again. How did they do it? They believed in a strong family structure, hard work, community and most of all, education. They didn’t ask for special treatment or endless compensations. It would behoove other cultures to follow their example because it remarkably works.

    Bystander, key as a consultant is an hourly rate not a day rate. The people with hourly rates are clocking 60+ hrs a week and killing it. The day rate guys are working close to the same hours for way less money. You want to be like taxicab with a meter running. Rates are anywhere from 125-200 per hour and we have some exec consultants getting 300+ per hour but they aren’t billing that many hours. Some even are getting an expense allowance as well covering commuting costs! Given how cheap these companies are it is mind blowing to see invoices for 40-50k for 1 consultant for one month.

    Grim, on contact tracing. Before covid was classified a pandemic, someone pretty high up at MS shared with me a report on how they expected Covid to be handled in the US. Supposedly this report only went out to high-income individuals. As much as I hate to admit it when anyone on Wall Street is right, they were 100% correct. The jest of it was that there would be too many liberty loving Americans who would never listen to medical expert’s recommendations. So the controls put in place in Wuhan would not happen here. This was back in late February. It also called for the hoarding and expected the FED to cut rates to where it is currently in June. As for how it would infect the economy, it gave best, probable and worst case scenarios. So far, we are landing somewhere between the best and probable. But I don’t know how these maskless states are going to go on without shutting things down again which should prompt another market sell-off.

    As for everything everyone is saying on Biden. I think the thought process about the importance of his VP is very right. He would not be beyond stepping down if his senility gets the best of him. Though, where I see a big mistake in theory is on the continued progressivism. As long as the DNC continues to exist, the center is safe. Heck, the DNC concocted the whole scheme to get the PAC leader elected when it appeared to be completely unlikely. As to AOC and crew driving the party further left? The right is flat-out wrong about this. The push to the left is a direct result of Trump’s populism, racism and xenophobia that was once again on clear display in many facets of his Tulsa rally.

    As for the FOX ratings of the rally? I watched as did a lot of my friends on the left. It’s become a mirror of the Stern show. You don’t watch because you agree with it.     Lib I agree with most of what you said, save the left and Trump, this did not all happen in less than 4 years. This has been brewing for years, many who voted for Trump would have voted for Sanders, if that I am convinced.

    Now it’s the left with AOC, and the looting and autonomous zones tear it all down mentalist. Corporate America and the bought and paid for politicians have destroyed the country, what you are seeing now are the results.2024 will be the real test, and I don’t think the DNC can hold the center. The Republicans on the other hand are finished.

    Back in the day I did a number of transactions in Israel. One was a family owned business, three sons. For the ‘closing dinner’ they arranged for an IDF pilot and a helicopter. Took us across the desert, dipped down into the canyons, below grade, walls out each window….they had that damn thing sideways going through some areas at a speed I don’t even want to guess. Level out and pop up to that massive flattop rock in front of us. Landed on top of it, put out tables and food, ate, toured, and hopped the chopper back to Tel Aviv.

    Top ten closing dinner for sure. Beat the hell out of another tired steakhouse.

    Dallas daily cases have doubled since June 1st. New hospitalization record today too.

    The Orange County Health Care Agency reported on Tuesday, June 23, another 147 new cases of coronavirus to raise the cumulative total tracked in the county to 10,737 cases since testing began.

    About 5,600 of those cases have been reported in the last 30 days. The seven-day average for cases is 256.
